I don't think it's really a big deal if his ratings are down...

that’s when you find out what a guys’ made of. Not one fan would even remember the bad times if he can get this turned around. When your 3-11 and lose the Browns in a blackout game, your probably going to lose some favor with the fan. No big deal.

It’s easy to be great when everything is going your way. It’s when things are at their worst that you get to really prove yourself. Next season is that opportunity for Todd Haley.

Agreed...

Well said, Kray. I concur 100%. Supposedly, with Pioli’s robots now firmly in place, we should be able to scout and draft better next season. Here’s to hoping next year is one to hang your hat on. In my case, hats….

Things to get the Chiefs back on the winning side of football:

1. Haley resign as offensive coordinator or do the following;
a. Feed JC more
b. Take the cuffs off of Cassel and let him air it out
2. Fire Clancy "Calls" Playslikeass

I dont know how you can

approve of his job performance. No chiefs fan can tell me that we have gotten better year over year. That is improvement and we havent seen that and anything less is not acceptable.

Id like to give him the benefit of doubt for a couple of years but some of the things he does does not reflect a well groomed coach.

by sstutz on Dec 24, 2009 7:40 AM CST reply actions

agreed..however he is NOT a well groomed coach. He is a rookie HC who never played in the NFL

I don’t think he even played college ball to be honest. So…

you sound like you might want Cowher huh?

by krayfish on Dec 24, 2009 7:43 AM CST up reply actions

so why was he so highly touted as our "savior" ... why has Haley been allowed to dismiss a VERY good OC and over-extend himself?

yes he IS a rooke HC … who, more and more, seems to have no clue how to BE a HC … Cowher, Marty, Chan Gailey, Romeo, even Herm (there, I said it, ok? remember, kray, I don’t partake of the Kool Aid like you)

now, maybe … just MAYBE … Haley will get his $hit together and figure it out … but I’m not holding my breath

Agreed

I’m not sure what people are approving of, 3-11, made the Browns look like a playoff team, no real improvement from last year….hell the Raiders have 2 more wins than we do….theres just not much to approve of IMO.

in all fairness

the guy’s a rookie HC in WAY over his head…..throw in some rookie mistakes & you have a shitty 1st season as most would usually expect……that being said, I was REALLY hoping for 6-10, and I am definitely very diappointed, but I’ll reserve set-in-stone judgement for after next season.

by reedeasy on Dec 24, 2009 8:49 AM CST up reply actions

So why not disapprove of him when he's doing a shitty job

And approve of him when he starts doing it better? What is wrong with that?

He is going to get a chance to coach again next year, I have no doubt. So while he’s making dumbass decisions, call him out for being a dumbass. When he learns from his mistakes and starts doing a better job of coaching, we can ALL approve of him there.

I don’t harp on the guy because I hate him. I harp on him because the job he is doing right now sucks. I mean he spent years as a WR coach and this team leads the league in drops for gods sake.

Something he’s doing is backfiring on him. When he figures out what it is and fixes it and we start seeing improvment instead of regression, I’ll be on his side.

A ship doesn't turn around on a dime

I’m not happy with the record, but I still feel better about the direction of the team than I have in the past several seasons. That said, I’ll be very disappointed if the team doesn’t win 7-9 games next season. If they only win 4-5 I may just jump on the Fire Haley bandwagon.

Predictions:

Kansas City will not win more than four games in 2009
Kansas City will have a new OC and DC in 2010
Kansas City will win at least seven games in 2010

by jmcgoblue on Dec 24, 2009 8:56 AM CST up reply actions

The thing is

Most people that stick up for Haley said they expected 6 or 7 wins this season. They haven’t gotten there but they still are sticking up for him.

I personally don’t care about wins. I want to see improvment. I want to see our defense hold an offense under 350 yards for several consecutive weeks. I want to see our receivers catching the ball when it hits them in the hands for several weeks in a row. I want to see that expensive Defensive Line shutting down the run against teams that are actually TRYING to run against them for weeks in a row.

I’ve been waiting for 14 games to see them string a few games in a row like that and it just hasn’t happened yet.

by ChiefDJ on Dec 24, 2009 9:34 PM CST up reply actions

I Approve

I can see ground work being put in place for the long term, with a rookie HC it is important to see where they are headed, not where they are. This team has too many holes for any HC to turn into a winner overnight, it is going to be another year maybe 3 to get where this team should be.

However, the main reason for my approval is that although things are not pretty not, if we show some support we may finally get past the start of yet another re-building process. I don’t know Haley personally, I’ve never played for him, nor do I think I ever could. But we need stability from the top down and the only way this Chiefs team is going to have it is to allow it to show us what it has and on any team in the NFL your looking at 2-3 years of re-building. Until I see something that makes the team worse than where he found it I feel that Haley deserves my support.

is it me? or isn't about time the Lamar Hunt trophy belonged to His team?

This Chiefs team is closer to a new expansion team than it is a playoff contender, your expectations should match that.

by KC Fanatic on Dec 24, 2009 9:04 AM CST reply actions

Worse than when he found it?

Good lord don’t even joke about such a thing. The only thing worse that the Chiefs when Haley came abord was the Lions.

I'm on the Haley bandwagon. This guy "gets it" - just give him time.
Q: Is it possible you waved off someone? I had a cop who stopped me once and asked me why I flipped him off when all I did was I waved at him. Is that something the person may have seen?

HALEY: "That I can’t answer. I high-five people and there were people there who were pretty positive. Like I said, after the game I was probably one of the last ones out of the stadium and there are people who stand by our fence by the parking lot. It’s not very many and I can’t wait to see it when we’re winning games and people are really excited, but I leave my family in the car and go out to the fence. I’m very appreciative of the people who are willing to hang tough through these tough times – really appreciative of it. That’s why pre-game I always go by the steps and sign and am appreciative of the people who come out and root very hard for us."
"I’ve been a part of what has to be done. I’m in a learning process for myself. This is my first time being the head coach but I’d like to feel like I’ve been around the right people and have the right mentality and thought process to get it done. Now, is it going to be easy? No. Is it easy right now? No. These are rough waters and you have to have the mindset to stay the course and that’s what these players have to have. They cannot get distracted. If you get distracted it’s a cycle that goes on and on.

"Hopefully, success comes sooner rather than later for everybody involved but most importantly for this ownership and for the fans that pay money and come out there. I’m very appreciative of these people. I was blown away [after last Sunday’s game]. We just got beat in a very disappointing manner and there were 30 people standing by that fence and it’s two hours after the game. That’s what I grew up a part of in Pittsburgh. You gotta stay the course and fight through these rough times. There is a promised land."

"The way this works is you string together some good games, some good practices and you get momentum and you gain confidence," linebacker Mike Vrabel said. "It can be a real positive for your team. It builds on itself."

by cpa913 on Dec 24, 2009 9:36 AM CST reply actions

I still approve

I cant really blame Haley for the losses, the team sucks and noone can honestly argue that. What will make or break Haley and Pioli for me is how they handle this offseason. There was a couple of questionable calls made by Haley, but if the players simply did their jobs how many games would we have walked away with?

Young, dope & flashy.

by Young Ace on Dec 24, 2009 11:41 AM CST reply actions

Im willing to give him another yr

to prove me wrong. I dont think he has been good this yr. Has not evaluated talent very well at all. Charles was ridint the pine for most of the game and even a healthy scratch once…It wasnt until LJ screwed up and Haley was forced to start him for a couple games that we were able to see his real potential. He is now our best offensive player. You telling me that Haley cold not see this in practice?. Also Cottam. Has not gotten much playing time and has shown that he is the best option at TE the last few games. Why has he not been on the field more?
Also, game management. I dont care if he is a rookie HC or not. He has been in the league for many many yrs behind some very good HCs. You telling me that he has not earned even the most basic clock management skills. Some of the shit that has gone on in games is inexcusable…even for a rookie HC.
That being said, I know that he does not have a lot of talent to work with. Guys are not getting it or are not able to execute like an NFL caliber player. But I could also add that it might be due to not being coached well enough to reach their potential or focusing on what that particular player does well….
Im bitter right now because of this teams ineffectiveness since the Steelers game. It seem we are going backwards when we should being showing significant improvement by this point in the season. Im all for giving him and Pioli another yr to get the ship headed in the right direction. Right now though, things look grim. They better have some tricks up their sleeves for next yr.

why was everyone willing to give Herm 4 years but

only willing to give Haley 1. Give him a break hes a rookie HC, he had ALOT of crappy players with NO TALENT on the team he inherited, everyone is unrealistic if they actually thought that we would have more then 4 wins this year. Hes a rookie he is going to make some mistakes. I agree if after 2 more years if its still looking this way I will be the 1st to say its time for him to go but give the guy a chance. There is not a coach out there that could have come in this year and won 6-7 games. How can anyone say we arent improving we have more wins then last year, and that was Herms 4th year here wasnt it.

by banshee_01 on Dec 24, 2009 1:46 PM CST reply actions

Excuse me, Banshee

but like many others, you seem to be equating disapproval of Haley with a desire for him to be fired. Thse two things don’t necessarily go hand in hand. IIRC, I voted “don’t know” in the November poll. I voted “disapprove” in this one, but not because I think he ought to be fired. Like you, I think he ought to get several seasons to see if his program can work. But that doesn’t mean I approve of what I’m seeing right now.

And by the way… Edwards got three seasons – not four. But I’m sure that for some people, it seemed much longer. :-)

banshee, get your facts straight before you go off about Herm

first off, Herm was here for only 3 yrs
secondly, Herm managed to take an over-the-hill team with Huard at QB to the playoffs
third, Herm was NOT allowed to even START the necessary rebuild until his 3rd year (last year)

so if you count the first 2 years as being Carl Perterson’s mismanagement (as I do and as many of us do, and rightly so) then Herm in all fairness had ONE YEAR with his players and his system, etc … so lay off the “Herm thing” banshee … you’re dead wrong on it

Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisiton!

by upamtn on Dec 24, 2009 4:56 PM CST up reply actions

OMFG so i was off by 1 year and

Herm inherited a playoff team and ran it right into the ground. So your telling me to lay of the Herm thing when he proved he cant coach after more then 1 year but you guys can talk smack on Haley in his 1st ever year as HC. Pretty sure Herms 1st year here wasnt his 1st year of coaching and what did he do, nothing.

by banshee_01 on Dec 24, 2009 6:22 PM CST up reply actions

Carl Peterson ran this team into the ground, not Herm.

The lack of talent this team has even a year removed from the King Carl era is amazing. You can’t blame that on Herm. Shithole clock management and horrible conditioning? Yes Herm was no good in many regards, but make no mistake…Carl Peterson ran this team inthe ground.
