Chiefs Sign Two Receivers to the Practice Squad
The Kansas City Chiefs had two open spots on the practice squad as of last weekend. Today, those spots have been filled.
First up is Chandler Williams. We first reported that the Chiefs were set to work him out yesterday. It appears that went well. He comes from Florida International University and has bounced around the league with the Vikings, Dolphins and Falcons.
Check out our story from yesterday for a little more on Williams.
The second receiver is Logan Payne. He comes in at 6'2", 205 pounds and was previously an undrafted free agent for the Seahawks in 2007. He started two games for the Seahawks last season.
Payne has also spent time on the Lions practice squad.

LOL ...were taking former Lions now?
Winning begins with Attitude - Haley and Pioli will be winners in KC!
I'll forever be a Chiefs fan! Only God himself could take that away from me, but when I get to my great reward, I'll rejoin two bigger fans, my Mom and Dad.
ha well I put up a post on Field Gulls and this is one of the comments Enjoy!
Wes Welker
with more grit.
Honestly though, Payne has potential, but has never done much here. Last year he could have seen plentiful playing time, but was injured in the (I believe) second game of the season.

draft eric berry and darryll stuckey.... and our defense problems are next to solved...
Matt Jones!
just kidding… Never really understood all the love for that guy.
Predictions:
Kansas City will not win more than four games in 2009
Kansas City will have a new OC and DC in 2010
Kansas City will win at least seven games in 2010
Jones
is great in Madden ’10. I signed him to my Texans team and he catches everything! HA.

Payne has some upside.
He looked fairly solid in the pre-season games I saw from him last year and was on the Seahawk’s active roster before going down with an injury.
Just give it up already...OCD much?
Stop Haley…just stop. You’re not going to find the next Larry Fitzgerald or Anquan Boldin digging in more trash. I think the best we could do we have done with Chris Chambers.
So we have Bowe, Chambers, and Bradley. Not bad when you think two of the three came off the trash heep.
I think half the trouble with the dropzies is that you are freaking all the receivers out. They have shakey hands thinking they are going to lose their job in the future. Scientific studies show that stress and pressure enhance simple jobs (maybe blocking and tackling) but stiffle complex jobs (fine motor control trying to catch a ball running a million miles an hour). So, for starters, unstress your receivers.
If you wanted super star receivers so bad, why the hell didn’t you take crabtree in the draft?

These are practice squad guys
Not active roster guys. More than likely, they’re extra bodies in practice.

interesting point
about the stress and complex jobs. I have been trying to figure out why this team drops so many passes vs every other team in the league. Add to that..we have a HC that was a WR coach and I’m more perplexed.
by Knocknheads on Dec 23, 2009 12:13 PM CST up reply actions
I doubt he has the same time to spend with the WR’s as he had in Arizona.
If someone asks you if you want extra mayonnaise you have to say yes, cus that's part of it.
-Jared Allen
aside
from the fact that Boldin and Fitz are elite receivers that would be welcomed on any NFL team…they would both be good without Haley..doesn’t look like either of them have faultered this season.
If a guy was a WR coach for the majority of his career I’d expect him to be involved with the WRs…especially the piss poor crew of WRs we have. Haley isn’t going to be on them every day..but he’s going to have a lot of fundamental advice to share on a weekly basis. I wouldn’t believe otherwise.
Fitzgerald has given Haley loads of credit for making him the receiver he is. I’m not saying he wouldn’t be good without Haley’s coaching, but in his own words Haley has been a huge help to him.
As for having time for everything, I’m sure he is there to give advice but still not as much as he was around for instruction in AZ. Cassel’s talk last week about not having Haley in film sessions shows Haley is spread pretty thin.

At least that's something.
Remember last year when Bowe would drop a pass? He’d just smile as if it was no big deal. He didn’t even stop to realize he cost his team a first down, a TD, or a win against San Diego.

so... he's a blocking specialist?
* "I doubt anyone will miss Connor Barth except UCrawford"
* the LB corps may become the biggest strength of the Chiefs in 2009
* The OL is NOT as bad as you think it is... give it time, and you'll see improvement this season
* Stats are for losers
That is what is sounds like to me
A compliment to the running game. But if he is on the field the defense would pick us apart from knowing the play! I personally don’t think either of these guys will amount to much…imo.

Jones
Matt Jones is worth a look. Im sure he would play his ass off looking for shot!!

I think its safe to assume
If we are signing these guys that we have taken a look at Matt Jones and decided not to sign him.
I want a solid possession WR in the draft
I want a pair of hands! Not a speed demon from hell and not a former track star! I want a guy who can catch a bullet with his thumb and index fingers. A guy who can catch a football in the African Safari while being chased by a hungry Lion! A guy who can catch like Larry Fitzgerald in his commercials!
Haley is too wrapped up in speed guys! Speed does nothing if you can’t run a damn route or catch a damn ball!!!!

are either of these guys known for being fast?
I don’t think Haley is too obsessed with speed…
Bodlin, Fitz, Bowe, Wade… these guys aren’t known for being blazing fast

Lawrence, Bradley, Chambers
Chambers is working out though. I am speaking of guys Haley has obtained in his tenure as our coach.
It just seems as though he wants track guys. I believe one of the guys(picked up today) is a track guy also…

Nope
Pioli did that! Haley only wants track stars!
I win you lose, thanks for playing!! Lol jk

Team speed is very important.
It’s tough to find the perfect combo of speed and football IQ. One method is to look for high-dollar FAs or high draft picks. That not being in the cards, you churn the roster, lots of signings and lots of cuts.
I’m relieved to see a decisive resolution to the Bradley question: “No.”
Right now, they’re in a situation where they don’t have a big investment in ANYbody for the long-term, except maybe Bowe. Kind of a nice place to be, when you’re trying to cast a wide net. Of course, you’d rather not be casting nets at this point…
Prediction for '09: Chiefs are looking like a .500 team, especially considering Denver's inattention to D-Line, Chokeland's disarray, and a San Diego team that looks like it's on the decline. With a weak schedule, Chiefs steal a few and win between 7 and 9 games, and if .500 or better, will contend for supremacy in a weak division.
True
Your talent for the year that will make any difference will be in the offseason. Any transaction made during the season barring a trade will just be hole pluggers(lol).
Pioli has to find the magic combination guys for us in the draft an FA…..or else we just won’t get it…
