Chiefs Cut WR Mark Bradley; Sign WR Quinten Lawrence
More roster moves from the Kansas City Chiefs:
The Kansas City Chiefs announced on Tuesday that the club has signed WR Quinten Lawrence to the 53-man roster.
Lawrence (6-0, 184) was a sixth-round pick (175th overall) of the Chiefs in the 2009 NFL Draft. He has played in four games for Kansas City in 2009 and has been on the practice squad for three games. He has 12 kickoff returns for 237 yards, one carry for 16 yards and a nine-yard reception. The Carencro, Louisiana native played in 37 games (32 starts) at McNeese State, catching 99 passes for 1,905 yards (19.2 avg.) with 15 TDs. He also returned 22 kickoffs for 419 yards (18.9 avg.) and registered a 70-yard punt return TD.
The Chiefs released WR Mark Bradley on Tuesday. Bradley played in 13 games (six starts) for the Chiefs in 2009, catching 24 passes for 320 yards with two TDs. He also had two carries for 20 yards and seven kickoff returns for 123 yards. He joined the Chiefs as a free agent in 2008.
We'll have more on this later. H/T to ICTChief for the heads up.

Whoaaa
I’m a bit suprised by this. He would have had a great game against Buffalo if Cassel wouldn’t have missed him a couple times, and he had a big TD last weekend. I guess the drops have been a problem, but who hasn’t had the dropsies?

Gone
Not only dropping the ball, in key situations. He is blaming on it being contagious, he doesn’t even know where he us on the field. Not a very smart player. He doesn’t play like a Haley/Pioli guy. Bye bye.. Next, open tryouts!!!

Most consistent at what, exactly?
Prediction for '09: Chiefs are looking like a .500 team, especially considering Denver's inattention to D-Line, Chokeland's disarray, and a San Diego team that looks like it's on the decline. With a weak schedule, Chiefs steal a few and win between 7 and 9 games, and if .500 or better, will contend for supremacy in a weak division.
WOW
I’m shocked.
I am constantly being proven wrong by these guys…
I JUST made a comment today about how Bradley has shown to be valuable.
wow

and he’s made some big catches (yes, he’s dropped some, to)

i was a fan of bradley too and i do think he will be valuable to a team in the future, but not in KC- he will get picked up by another team. hopefully he can start a career somewhere.
other than the KR duties, he really didn’t do much before we had chambers. but looking at the plethora of WRs we havee think about it- where did he fit in for the future?
Personally, I would’ve parted ways with Bobby Wade before Bradley because IMO i see Bradley as a much more valuable player in a dynamic offense like Todd haleys than Bobby Wade ebcause as far as speed, arm strength, route running, toughess and hands go, I’ll take Bradley. Bobby Wade doesn’t have the speed to be a good kick returner and doesnt shake or break tackles, has had a few good plays but his bad plays have overshadowed his good.
i think with the trend of change-ups throughout the year we all ahve to be prepared for roster cuts that will make us scratch our heads with pioli calling the shots. how fun.
Paint ya shirt red like a Kansas City Chief
+1 on Cutting Bobby Wade
I think he was worse overall than Bradley, but I hoped niether would be in KC next year!
So you think you are so important that no one can replace you? Put your finger in a bucket of water and pull it out. Does it leave a hole? Nope, just some ripples that eventually calm themselves!

He was.
He’s had some good games this year but was victimized by poor QB play.
My only explanation was Bradley isn’t in the future plans and Pioli/Haley want to see what they have in Quinton?

It isn’t just stone hands or a few dropped passes. Remember earlier in the year when Bradley came up just short of the first down marker more than once. A demand from Haley to play at a higher level by his average talent players has repeatedly resulted in even lesser performances. Bradley along with others have not raised themselves to a better performance, they simply move themselves off the Chief’s team. These players need to start asking themselves, “If I can’t perform well enough to play for the KC Chiefs, WHAT NFL TEAM CAN I PLAY FOR?”
Take off the blinders
we are 4, count em 4 drops from the NFL record I suppose that is a result of poor QB play also. Bradly does absolutely nothing to help this team out. Dropped passes, poor route running (ie. need 6 yrds for a 1st down he run a 4 yrd route). Then can’t man up and say I need to do a better job of catching the ball.
I thought Pollard was valuable
I thought [insert other name here] was valuable
Not suprised at all...Bradley had a decent pre season in 08
And that is all. Other than that he’s been a dissapointment the rest of his time in KC.
Good riddance!

im really not suprised at all
Bradley hasn’t been able to hold onto the ball all year. Or he cuts his routs short or the first down line. Haley finally got tired of it and is making a statement. If drops are contagious then the virus was bradley and it needed to be removed. He has dropped to many passes in critical situations.

Drops sealed his fate.
It was clear he wasn’t in the plan for next year. Surprised that they cut him with two weeks left in the season, but it seems like they see Lawrence as someone they need to sign up for the near future. And why not, as previously stated, this season has seemed quite a bit like an extended pre-season. Give the rooks and people with potential to contribute next year a shot.
I said the same thing like 4 weeks ago
it was already a lost season might as well give the young guys a chance in more then just 1 game, give them a few games back to back and with the 1st team on practice and see if they can develope. They cant be any worse
Four weeks ago, I think they were still worried about selling out the rest of their games.
Now that they don’t have to worry about that, they probably feel like it doesn’t matter what kind of team they trot out the next two weeks.
They gave him every opportunity to show the drops were a fluke.
I'd say it's due to the 3rd down drop at the beginning of the 3rd Quarter
that was an easy catch, and I think Haley even pointed out that one specifically in his press conference. I’d say they’re trying to send a message.
Predictions:
Kansas City will not win more than four games in 2009
Kansas City will have a new OC and DC in 2010
Kansas City will win at least seven games in 2010
And the message is: If you suck, we might cut you.
Haley could cut Bowe for the same reasons he cut Bradley

The only receiver's
IMO that haven’t had problems with drops are Pope and Chambers, the rest (Bowe included) better watch their backs. I really like Bowe but he need to work on drops if he wants to stick around.
This is surprising
Since he was used on KR/PR in the Cleveleand game.
Can’t get overly pissed or happy about such a meaningless cut
"I’d go to battle with him every day of the week." Todd Haley on Matt Cassel

If we're cutting guys over drops(which im not opposed to) theres about 4-5 other guys who need to go.

I wouldn't assume this move is just because of the drops this game
i wouldn’t be surprised if he showed some attitude issue and was “made example of” (that’s the same reason I think Pollard was cut)
I think Haley and Pioli make moves with a purpose, but that purpose isn’t always what we think it is

Bobby Sippio
Yes, he was slow, but he could catch! At this point, that is what KC needs…they aren’t throwing the deep ball, so Sippio’s speed is not an issue. Maybe the only problem would be getting separation, but who cares…he can catch!
With this move and Cottam to IR
That leaves one open spot on the roster and two on the practice squad right?
It will be interesting to see who they bring in for the last two games.
Bradley will catch on elsewhere.
I have a feeling he and Cassel havent gelled at all on the field or off of it. This means KC will go hard to reup Chambers. Bradley would have been the 4th or 5th WR on the depth cahrt, not worth keeping aroudn if he can’t catch anything, and makes mental errors multiple times a game.
The receiver we need to target in the draft is Mardy Gilyard from Cincy. He’s a leader, can put an entire team on his back when necessary and is a great KR/PR player! Has great hands, quick feet in and out of breaks and has god given speed. This kid is special. I’d take him in the late 2nd early 3rd in a heartbeat.

Not just the drops but......
I have seen him at least twice signal first down after a catch and was 10 yards short. He was looking at the marker for the original line of scrimmage. That tells me he has a total lack of situational awareness, or he slept through all of his math classes at OU.
“Ok, it’s 3rd and 18. I just ran a 9 yard route. 18 subtract 9 = FIRST DOWN!”
It shouldn’t be a surprise that he caught many passes short of the first down marker. He simply had no idea where he was in relation to the first down marker when running routes. Couple that with the drops, and you have a reciever who lacks concentration.
He will bounce around a couple of more teams because he has raw skils. Until he decides to improve his mental game, he will never be a productive plyer in the NFL. He had two seasons to figure it out here.
Good riddance.

Where do these numbers come from
and what do they mean exactly?
"The way this works is you string together some good games, some good practices and you get momentum and you gain confidence," linebacker Mike Vrabel said. "It can be a real positive for your team. It builds on itself."
The numbers come from a site where guys watch all of the games and rate the players according to how they perform. They watch every game, and every player, and every play. The ratings come from categories such as pass block, run block, sacks, pressures and so forth. You name the stat, they monitor, and record it.

No problem with this
Early in the season I went on the record saying I thought that if we built a decent OL, Cassel and the receivers we had could be serviceable. Wow, was I wrong.
I’d be very fine with trading Bowe. I think other teams see him more valuable than he is. I just don’t see him fixing his drops issue. I would try to keep Chambers and I’d cut every one of the rest of our receivers and try again. This is an entirely embarrassing receiving corps. Contagious my ass.
