Chiefs Send Brad Cottam to IR
Kent Babb of the Kansas City Star reports that the Kansas City Chiefs have placed second year tight end Brad Cottam on injured reserve, ending his season.
Babb reports that medical tests revealed a cracked cervical vertebra. That's the bad news.
The good news is that there is no spinal cord damage and he still has full movement in all of his extremities.
Whew. I know his season is done - and that sucks for everyone - but I'm glad it doesn't appear his long-term health will be jeopardized.
I can say that Cottam moved just fine last weekend catching four balls for a career high 62 yards. He had a nasty-looking spill in the second half where he appeared to land on his neck. He got up fine and moved around without limitations. After the game he said of the hit, "It is just a little sore but I got back in there and was able to play. I don’t think it’ll be a big deal.”
With this roster move, the Chiefs now have one open spot on the 53 man roster. Expect that to be filled before tomorrow's practice.

that was a nasty fall he took
Wish him the best, and hope he can play again.
Predictions:
Kansas City will not win more than four games in 2009
Kansas City will have a new OC and DC in 2010
Kansas City will win at least seven games in 2010
knew it the second that fall happened...I like the guy but hes made of glass...was as a Vol
too bad, I wanted to see more improvement…oh well…he will get another shot next season.
Did it look as bad on tv as it did in person?

Seriously??
Made of glass?? I have thought of him as a hard working, tough playing kid. I’ve liked him from the very beginning. I can imagine 99% of the WRs being carted from the field, so for him to get back in and shrug it off is a testament to toughness.
I wonder
If this is from when he landed on his neck this week when he was trying to get more yardage, dived, was nailed along the sideline, it was not pretty. I really wish there was a clip of it. I think it happened in the 4th quarter. Cleveland’s territory.

Very sorry to hear that Brad is hurt and done for the season.
Hopefully he has a speedy recovery and all is well with him. Hope to see him back next year.
Yeah, let's just keep matriculatin' the ball down the field, boys! ...
Second those thoughts
Glad the Chiefs had the foresight to check :) Very Glad.
Cottam has a spot on this roster
We Will kick at least 4 Teams Asses in 09. Almost there :)
And Succop will be the Key in two of them. Skins & Raiders! Pittsburgh Sweet!

that's too bad
he was just starting to show some promise.
hopefully he showed enough to come in next season as the starter
* "I doubt anyone will miss Connor Barth except UCrawford"
* the LB corps may become the biggest strength of the Chiefs in 2009
* The OL is NOT as bad as you think it is... give it time, and you'll see improvement this season
* Stats are for losers
He was becoming a nice tall outlet over the middle for Cassel
I hope they remember that come draft time.

Wow that sucks for him
Hate to see it
Braccae illae virides cum subucula rosea et tunica Caledonia-quam elenganter concinnatur!
He just had his best game of the year -
That stinks!
"The way this works is you string together some good games, some good practices and you get momentum and you gain confidence," linebacker Mike Vrabel said. "It can be a real positive for your team. It builds on itself."
Lame...what will I ever do with this huge batch of "Brad 'Caught'em'" T-shirts I just printed! :(
What a tough break for the guy and the team. :(
Brady Quinn was put on IR today too.
I didn’t see what happened to him in the game.
He sucked his playing time up for this year
foot in mouth or something :)

Cottam
First, from the play, I suspect the injury is legit; no lame comments about him being made of glass. I guess there’s a roster spot for Bradley now. Unfortunately, there may be a spot for O’Connell, too.
agree on not glass
this really bites
even more so that it took this long into the season for cottam to be the TE instead of ryan!!

Hope Cottam's injury isn't serious
We need him healthy for OTA’s and minicamp. He’s got to continue to progress and work with Cassel. Cottam has a chance to be a playmaker at the position, big, fast tough frame and can catch the ball away from his body. He just needs a lot more reps.
Let’s see what Pope can piece togethe rin the next 2 weeks and if O’Connell can actually catch a friggin ball!

Can we do some kind of ritualistic voodoo ceremony...
…where we officially destroy THIS THREAD and pretend like it never existed? I’ll provide a fire and any necessary witchcraft-like ingredients needed. We’ve had nothing but trouble in the injury category ever since that was posted. ;)
My long, drawn-out predictions that no one cares about, nor will bother to remember:
1. Todd Haley will still be the Chiefs Head Coach up to the 2011 season.
2. Clancy Pendergast won't make it to the 2010 season and was never intended to. Last-minute hire for a position that needed to be filled.
3. Todd Haley will not be the OC at the start of the 2010 season.
Best wishes and prayers
I’ve hoped that he would become our starting TE. He was schooled by Tony G, so he has to get well quickly and become our #1 next year. I do wish him the very best.
My prayers are with you Brad and thanks for giving your all for our Chiefs. See you next season!
