AP is a diamond in the roughage of fan-related sports blogs. The fact that it's the most trafficked sportsblog directly related to one particular franchise is alone a great reason to be a Chiefs fan in this tough time for our team, & it speaks volumes about the loyalty & committment of Chiefs fans across the nation and around the world. Many differing views and opinions about personnel, play calls, mock drafts, x's, o's and anything & everything else Chiefs-related makes AP a very dynamic & addictive sports blog that I(and many others) can't keep our modems away from. Also, the fact that AP breaks Chiefs news faster than the Star & the mothership combined doesn't hurt at all.
That being said, there has been a disturbing pattern with some "fans" who would rather burn their red& gold colors, & go support some other team than suffer through this very difficult & trying time for the Chiefs. I am definitely NOT one of those fair-weather fans. That kind of cowardice in the face of adversity would make the great #58 toss & turn in his grave, and there is no place for it in the Chiefs kingdom! Yes, times are hard right now, & the Chiefs suck really, really bad right now, but they won't suck forever and once the Chiefs have returned to greatness, the fair-weather ex-Chief fans will cry & plead for a place @ the party only to be ridiculed, insulted and banished from any celebration that may ensue after our Chiefs win a Super Bowl!
Class Is In Session by KCSatchmo is probably the best fanpost I have ever read in terms of discussing what being a tried & true fan is & what it really means. Real loyalty doesn't grow on trees. It is taught, learned, and passed on to the next generation. I have only been a Chiefs fan since the early 90's, and before that, I was too young to really understand football, and I missed the ugly 80's era, so I guess this era is the tribulation for the newer Chief fans like myself, and deja vu all over again for older fans who suffered through the floundering 1980's, i.e. Satchmo.....
Everything in life (and the NFL) is cyclical, and the Chiefs are no different. Good times followed by bad times and so on..., but I believe the Chiefs have hit the bottom(especially after this loss to the lowly Browns) and there is really nowhere to go but up from here. It may not happen next season or the next season ( although I desperately hope it does), but it WILL happen!!! I will NEVER waiver in my support for this proud organization, and it will have reason to be proud again. Now is not the time to jump ship. I want to be watching when the Chiefs get hot, and I'll ride that train all the way to the dynasty!!!!
I live in Springfield, MO right in the heart of Chiefs kingdom, and there are definitely more Chiefs fans here per capita than any other team, but there are definitely weak-stomached, lily-livered bandwagon fans who jumped over to the Rams when they got hot in 2000, and there's lots of other people who follow the team-of-the-week, be it Pittsburgh, Indy, New England, Dallas, Denver, or whomever is doing well at the time. I tell these fair-weather, yellow-bellied lemmings that they have no loyalty or integrity and will eat at the sty with the other self-serving swine when the Kansas City Chiefs rise to greatness once again!!!
Call me a homer, or whatever you like.....the Chiefs are my team & they always will be.....good or bad.
Be well AP'ers! The darkest hour is just before dawn!(insert inspirational cliche here)
