Around SBN: The Ten Worst Swings Of The 2011 Season

I wasn't sure at first. But now I am. We're just better fans!

Man oh man. I keep hearing how active AP is. How many hit's it get's. How many people have joined. How big it's become. But I guess it didn't sink in until I went snooping. Here's what happened.

Star-divide

If you scroll all the way to the very bottom of the screen, you will see among other things, Chris and Joel's names. Their next to a pic of an envelope as you already know. But if you click on Joel or Chris' name and then scroll down, you will get a complete list of all the other SB Nation websites like ours.

I don't care which one you go to. I don't care which one you look at. The story is the same. At first glance they seem to have an average of about 8 comments per post. That being said, most of their posts are drawing no more than two to three comments. Pathetic. I'm not insulting them, I'm not being negative. I'm just making an observation. They have as many fans if not more than we do. Comeon, Dallas and Pittsburgh have way more fans internationally than we do. But we here at AP are killin' those guys on participation and membership. It's unbelievable really.

Now let me back pedal for two seconds. One thing of note that I absolutely love is how similiar the posts are when it's the teams with 4 wins or less. You know, teams like us. I highly encourage you to flip over to Buc Em and read all the mock drafts and all the people clamoring for a boy named Suh. Then over to Washington where their deadlocked in a heated match over whether or not they gave Jim Zorn enough time and whether or not the one's who are asking for his head are "true fans" or not. You think I'm kidding go look. You'll laugh.

The Buc's have a big controversy over whether or not they should keep Raheem a first year rookie HC who has only won 2 games because Cowher is becoming available. I swear it's like reading us with different names on the posts. I actually did a double take to make sure Porkchop wasn't over there selling Kool-Aid for extra money. LOL! ( I love ya Porky).

Anyway, even teams with a much larger fan base can't touch us. And whether you like it or not, there are two main reasons we are the best site on the net IMO. They are

1) Obviously Chris and Joel have assembled a top notch crew here that keep up on the news like fanatics. You never need to look elsewhere for news about the Chiefs. It's a waste of time. By the time breaking Chiefs news hits ESPN or NFL network we've already been blogging about it for hours on AP.  Tremendous job by the boys here that run AP. I don't kiss ass and Joel and Chris know that. So I'm just being sincere when I say that. We have a lot to be thankful for here on AP.

2) The variety of viewpoints. We have some very smart people on here. Bewsaf and cpa will throw up posts that you need a calculator and a senior advisor to help you understand the numbers. But that's cool. And out of the blue somebody you least expect will throw up a really intricate post with all kinds of historical details about the Chiefs that I love to read. Stuff I never knew.

It takes us all, with all our different personalities to make this site fun. Even if I'm bumping heads with Kcguy and he's pissing me off, it makes me stay here. Because I'm not going to let him one up me when I log out. So I hang around and keep checking to see what he's going to say back to me. Those heated debates, whether you like to admit it or not, go a long way to keeping people logged in. If we all agreed, there would be one post a day and we would all log in and say +1 and then log out again. Done. But no, we have a lot of bumping heads going on in here. Upamtn and I against Jmcgoblue or whatever his name is (-:  Tomahawk trying to keep the peace for everyone...and Pork chop with his shaved head and Hari Krishna robe on trying to tell us all to settle down and meditate with the magic juice he calls Kool Aid. It's a strange mix of people. And we are all very opinionated because we love our Chiefs.

But that just makes us keep coming back doesn't it? Even me, those of you that hate me, you can't help but follow me around and try to antagonize me in every post I comment in. You know who you are. But I keep you looking thru the posts don't I? Your not gonna let me get away with bashing Cassel so you make sure you haunt me everywhere I go. But hey, I do the same thing. We are one big dysfunctional family. I love it. I love this site. I love the Chiefs.

I tried to find a reason, any reason why we have 100 times the following on AP then any other site. And in the end, there's only one real reason.......We're Just Better Fans!

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Arrowhead Pride's writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Arrowhead Pride writers or editors.

Winning begins with Attitude - Haley and Pioli will be winners in KC!

I'll forever be a Chiefs fan! Only God himself could take that away from me, but when I get to my great reward, I'll rejoin two bigger fans, my Mom and Dad.

Thank you Chris...we are truly a group of super fans, all our imperfections and

little personality conflicts won’t change that. We are the best group out there. And it takes each and every one of us to make it like this. I love AP!! In all honesty, and I know I’m not alone, I think this site has changed how I use the internet and how I am as a fan.

Agreed

Chris and Joel do a downright phenomenal job with AP. I regularly lose track of how many times I visit the site daily; whether it’s at work, home, or on my cell, AP is bookmarked as my one and only source for everything in the Chiefs Nation.

Props to the Brothers Thorman as well as to everyone that not only contributes to, but visits this site, helping to keep us at the top of SBNation (and sports blogs in general)!

Morning Crawdaddy

Wrecked. I used to go lots of different places to find my Chiefs news. Then I found AP. For a game next year, I’m going to plan a Saturday night outing (and Sunday tailgating) for members of AP. It’ll be nice to put a face to all these dysfunctional family members, It’ll also be nice to see PorkChop and you square off in a fight to the death!

We are building a fighting force of exwaordinary magnitude.

So being the East Coaster

Who became a West Coaster, who has been seasonal and transient for so very long… I have never gone to a KC game. I know, I know, tragic. I mean I’ve been avidly watching and listening to games since Okoye ran the rock, but, never went. Well if you put it together, maybe I’ll finally get my ass in gear, and come on out. It would be phenomenal to not only finally go to a game, but do it with a crew of AP’ers!

by Eastcoastransplant on Dec 23, 2009 1:52 PM CST up reply actions

Well said Kray

The one thing I have to add to all of this is AP itself has chemistry that for reasons unknown to man works. I mean we can say it is because of the Chiefs but to be honest how many Chiefs sites are there and why don’t they pull the numbers AP does. When PA went over to AA, I went back to be supportive and to see the changes. But to be honest it’s just not the same PA makes a post and maybe 3 people will comment on it for the day and I’m talking a post that on AP would get at least 50-60 comments here.

Not only is it the leadership here that makes AP work but after watching a few other sites I have figured out exactly what it is that makes AP rock as it does. It’s the give and take, no mater which side of any debate your on here at AP you know that not only is there going to be someone on the other side, but there will be a few others that come along and will throw out a few things that may even start a third or fourth side to the debate. There are few dead topics here and even those get comments, We feel the need to not only say what’s on our mind but we have fact checkers that will find the stats to back up which ever side of the debate they are in favor of and others with the stats to debate the first set of stats.

AP Rocks because of it’s people and the idea that everyone’s opinion counts. Hell even I get a rec every once and a while and it always surprises me. With all the talent we have here at AP, it is difficult to believe that any site could out do AP and it’s people.

is it me? or isn't about time the Lamar Hunt trophy belonged to His team?

This Chiefs team is closer to a new expansion team than it is a playoff contender, your expectations should match that.

by KC Fanatic on Dec 22, 2009 8:19 AM CST reply actions   1 recs

I did the same thing fanatic...I went over yesterday and he had a beautifully written front page blog

It had 2 comments total and they were from me. I feel bad for him. But I was going to check with Chris and Joel and see if once a week we couldn’t all rally and go over and get all the AP faithful to comment over there and maybe help them pick it up a little.

That’s one thing I love about Chiefs sites. There’s no cut throat competition. We all are in this together and I want AA to succeed too…their no AP, but their still Chiefs and I respect that.

by krayfish on Dec 22, 2009 9:17 AM CST up reply actions

Love me some AP though

And one of the reasons I have been hooked so hard was that it cut down on having to jump from site to site to get the news I’m looking for or a good debate. Maybe PA can just come back here for a good discusion every once in awhile. I would like them to suceed over there but I love my AP and like that we are a dominant force of fans.

Thank you to everyone on AP for their great imput and comments that keep us comming back and of course a big thank you to Chris, and Joel.

Nice job Kray.

Before I came here I used to go over to the addict and they used to just upset me. Then I stumbled on to the AP, and have never gone back. Love the site.

by Helmets on Dec 22, 2009 8:49 AM CST reply actions

Don't know how many times I've heard this comment from others

But I too started out with the Star, then Arrowhead Addict, then I stumbled across AP. Like almost everyone else, once I came here I never went back to any of the others. I was amazed at how much Chiefs information this site put out and was blown away by the number of posts and comments on a daily basis. This truly is the best Chiefs site, hands down.

by KC Chief 40 on Dec 22, 2009 9:06 AM CST up reply actions

speaking of being upset

I used to read the blogs at Kansascity.com and Whitlock’s pieces and wow, not only would I be bummed, but the commentors?! the commentors! now… AP was and is that breadth of fresh air. As I said below, it’s all about the community here. The respect for one another and the love of the team that pervades everything.

That about sums it up as far as the dynamic personalities here on AP. I am thoroughly entertained by the antics of the people on this website (yourself included Kray). I only got on SBNation because my friend was trying to turn me into a Canucks fan (I have absolutely 0 interest in the NHL) and thought getting me to join their blog would do it, but I ended up just joining AP and a few others. It was almost too bad that AP is so active, because it was really the first blog I paid attention to, and then as I’ve looked at all the others, none can compare.

Defending the Cassel since 2009

Thanks...

Consider me one of the fans who seriously needs to vent. Yes, the thought occured to me that my life might be happier if my team had at least some probability of winning agame or two here & there. With Haley as HC, I don’t see that happening. I grew up a LA Rams fan, & endured the G.Allen years, when he’d trade all his draft picks for old washed-up players, & then the Rams would go up to Minnesota & lose to the Vikes in the play-offs. I endured. However, when Georgia had CR killed, & inherited the team, her antice with the team were more than I could take. Whenm she packed up her toy & lit out for St. Louis I immediately switched my allegiance to the Chiefs, whom I had become enomored of several years earlier (because they beat the Raiders regularly). I’ve endured to this point. Haley, however, has given my team an unwanted similarity to the old LA Rams. They were both embarrassments to cheer for. Kray’s post gave me some stamina to maybe ride out the storm for awhile. However, all you who jumped on my case gall me. Perhaps your anger could better be targeted at Haley?

I mean seriously…we were like his 2nd favorit team…..he just ended up liking us a little more. I can’t deny I’ve had romances with different teams thru the years. Dallas under Tom Landry was one. But since they weren’t really MY team anyway. When the scenario changed so did I.

I don’t think he’s a bad guy for being honest. You can’t judge him the same as you would judge me or you. It’s just not the same for him. That’s ok too. He’s cool. Let’s let it go for awhile. This was a peaceful post. Smile all!

It's a sickness actually

Born and raised in KS and loved the Chiefs since around 1970. Now I’ve passed the virus to my son who is a 14 year old die hard Chiefs fan. Got his first Chiefs jersey when he was 7. What a great son!! The great thing is that he will be able to see the rise from the bottom to the Super Bowl wins and NFL dominance, being a Chiefs fan the entire time!

Dude

When we do rise up… and we will Bygolly!… then all of us will be riding high and all the fair weather fans will fall outta the woodwork, and well, it really will be KCNATION. I mean, look at us, at AP now, with as bad as we are. What will it, we, be like then?

While I think that the Denver fans here in CO seem a little closed-minded.

I was very impressed with the depth and quality of the threads I visited over there. Not sure about other teams, but I was impressed with the number and quality of their FanPosts.

90% of our FanPosts could easily be pared-down and added as high-quality comments in response to virtually identical FanPosts.

The real meat, here, is in the comments, imo. Where ideas are bounced back-and-forth. There, I’d stack up AP against the best, but don’t kid yourself that we’re all that special with regard to quality. Some very good writers and football heads on the other blogs.

Prediction for '09: Chiefs are looking like a .500 team, especially considering Denver's inattention to D-Line, Chokeland's disarray, and a San Diego team that looks like it's on the decline. With a weak schedule, Chiefs steal a few and win between 7 and 9 games, and if .500 or better, will contend for supremacy in a weak division.

Hell no. Just look at Nose Tackle discussion.

You want to see me, go for the football content and avoid the social commentary/public interest stuff. ;o)

I'm just the same old same old.

And a bright spot in the AP constellation.

The amazing thing (or so I’m told) is my humble modesty.

Oh and the reason I am above you…..simple…..Dion Gales. The man will prove you wrong.

I asked for it.

But KNOWING you’re above me on the AP ladder says you looked. That puts you below me on the street cred’.

kray

Thanks. It’s cool. I’ll watch my choice of word when I’m frustrated from now on. Message to all: it’s good all you jumped on my a&&. It’s good I & other like me are so PO’d. When the Rams left LA, no one cared. The Rams were such an embarrassment, all were glad to see them go. Worse…people in LA discovered they don’t need the NFL. That’s why there is no big push for a new stadium.

Maybe we should just have a "This thread for Vent" after losses.

Say whatever you want. Anybody who participates knows it’s for venting, and nobody takes it too seriously.

agreed!! bring it up to chris and joel..other sites have forums for that stuff

it has warnings that before you enter don’t if your sensitive and can’t take the heat. That way no one who enters that post would be able to flag others for venting and getting it all out. Everyone needs to vent sometimes.

by Special K on Dec 22, 2009 11:56 PM CST reply actions

Maybe most of us know this already

With the seasons we have gone through alone or together we need to cut each other slack and maybe if wanted give a little support. Lately Sunday evenings have been trauma threads to me. I want to have every broken hearted and bewildered fan to vent and move on to a better day, AS CHIEFS FANS. I don’t care about the histrionics it is about maintaining fandom. The Chiefs whether you believe they are better or not will rise like the Pheonix one day and I definitely want someone to say “Damn we made it” to. Kray rec for the perfectly worded post :)

i thought i was the only one doing this
Even if I’m bumping heads with Kcguy and he’s pissing me off, it makes me stay here. Because I’m not going to let him one up me when I log out. So I hang around and keep checking to see what he’s going to say back to me.

you see, we’re more similar than you think. except i’m always right =)

The only players I hurt with my words are the ones who have an inflated opinion of their ability. I can't worry about that.

Kray you only stay here more than me because...

the looney bin site can only handle one of us at a time! :)

Winning begins with Attitude - Haley and Pioli will be winners in KC!

I'll forever be a Chiefs fan! Only God himself could take that away from me, but when I get to my great reward, I'll rejoin two bigger fans, my Mom and Dad.

the longest run on ever..

Kray – you’ve nailed it. And I agree that all the characters, all the fans, all the differing opinions, make this site so so freaking awesome. WE SET THE BAR. and that did deserve all CAPS! :)

Look, diversity is the spice of life, and whether we are older fans, International fans, west coast, east coast, transplanted, rocky mountain, or texan, Raider haders, Bronco haders, bronco fans (come on J-man you know you love us and want to reneg your allegiances), pats fans (nesilver – yup he’s been adopted too!), moderators, owners (wasn’t it IISaiNtII who originally created – and then deleted the AP’er team staff full with Owner, GM, and Coaches?) football technicians (kalo-phoenix) or admirers, left wing, right wing, no wing, pro this, anti that, veggie, meat eater for life, or oppintunivores, hey what ever happend to Guppy (and Anne Retart Day?)? – in the end we all LOVE OUR CHIEFS, through thick, thin, high flying, hard running, all D, no Offense, No D all offense, neither and wish we had both, not enough talent, too many on one side of the ball (as if that is a problem), poor game mgmt, too conservative or not enough, tons of points, or barely any, 13-3 (and losing to the freaking Colts) or 13-3 (and loosing to the freaking Colts again!), being beaten by the Bengals to ruin our perfect record or beating the Bengals and having all the dominos fall just so we get into the playoffs, from it being expected that we get into the playoff every year (hello 90’s) to it being expected that we win just 2 games a year (hello late 2000’s). Through it all we love our Chiefs, we love to debate, we love to soar when they win, and slog when they lose.

Our hopes and dreams, our outlook on life, for that day, week, season, depends on how our team does. But more so, we have each other to go through it all with. THIS COMMUNITY. And this community is what makes AP and CHIEFS FANS so very special and so very different than all the rest.

So really what it comes down to are Chiefs fans – and anyone who isn’t a Chiefs fan… yet.

Kray

You are right on this totally. I did a FanPost that got “front paged” It was up about one full day, and it lasted in the “FanPosts” for a little bit longer than that. Some of the other sites have FanPosts that are several days or even a week old. You have to constantly check things out or you miss something. It’s pretty amazing!

"The way this works is you string together some good games, some good practices and you get momentum and you gain confidence," linebacker Mike Vrabel said. "It can be a real positive for your team. It builds on itself."

Imagine if the Chiefs were doing good right now

Instead of being 3 and 12 we where 12 and 3 or hell even 7 and 8, this place would be insane. Instead of having ~15K visitors a day it would be probably in or near the 30s.
