Chiefs QB Matt Cassel has thrown 8 fourth-quarter TDs, the highest total of any NFL QB this season.

So even the ChiefsPR can criticize Cassel
yet a lot of people on here get up in arms whenever it happens. Haley has said there are no sacred cows in the Chiefs organization and I for one go along with those sentiments
I don't want no Yo-Yos
When you are Herms qb!:)
Good move by the Chiefs org, glad to see LJ gone.
I dunno that sounded positive in my opinion
Winning begins with Attitude - Haley and Pioli will be winners in KC!
I'll forever be a Chiefs fan! Only God himself could take that away from me, but when I get to my great reward, I'll rejoin two bigger fans, my Mom and Dad.
How is that criticizing?
Sure, he’s probably only first in fourth quarter TD’s because they have to push, but it means he’s getting things done.
LOL
end of the day. sorry. thought that was INT. I was pretty surprised actually that the ChiefsPR would do something like that haha

It's bad because
He waits until the 4th quarter. But I have to admit, it’s nice knowing not to give up hope, because we have looked great in the 4th quarter!
"The way this works is you string together some good games, some good practices and you get momentum and you gain confidence," linebacker Mike Vrabel said. "It can be a real positive for your team. It builds on itself."
I want to see more accurate deep throws
from Cassel. Sure the td’s are great in the fourth quarter, but if we could have some of those earlier in the game, that would be better in my opinion. We will see next year about mid-season next year, then we will know what we have in Cassel.
Good move by the Chiefs org, glad to see LJ gone.
What????
Cassel actually has done something positive this year? From the story earlier today, I would have thought something along these lines would’ve been impossible for his since he’s a bonehead who makes mistakes and is bound for Ryan Leaf status. Give me a break all of you Cassel haters out there. What, were you expecting him to come in, transform the franchise, and be Peyton Manning and Drew Brees combined? Seriously. Our O-Line and D-Line’s are historically bad. The fact that he’s done anything at all (i.e. not get injured for the season) is a miracle in itself. For all of those out there calling for Brokie Croyle, how many plays do you think he might last behind our porous line? Seriously folks. Chill out about criticizing Cassel. Yes he holds onto the ball too long. Yes he doesn’t have the greatest arm in the world. Yes his accuracy is questionable at times…but who exactly are you trying to compare him to? He is no Manning, Brees, or Aaron Rodgers. In the same sense, he also is no Ryan Leaf, Joey Harrington, or Tim Couch. Do you no the reason why? He wasn’t drafted in the first round. He was drafted in the 7th round. He is a smart QB and if we use him correctly as the Patriots used him and continue to use Tom Brady, he can become a success. Yes, we went out and gave him first round QB/Franchise QB type of money. Allow him to develop before tossing him aside as a failure. He’s only played 2/3s a season with us.
"Gonna gallop all over the Chiefs. Cleat prints on the chests. Mud in the face masks." - 2.7* *Yes I know it was changed to 2.9 but f*ck the statisticians.
I agree with everything except..
“Our O-Line and D-Line’s are historically bad.”
Cassel may be the most sacked QB in the league, but he was in NE last year too. The Chiefs may have 1 of the worst OL’s in football, but I’d disagree saying historically.
Last year, our DL was MUCH worse than this year. Our DL, IMO, has actually been a bright spot when you consider theres are 3 starters playing in a 3-4 for the first time in their careers, 1 of those guys being a 2nd year player and another guy being a rookie. Last year, our DL was HISTORICALLY bad..yes..because we werent getting sacks.
The Linemen in the 3-4 arent really known for getting sacks but more for plugging gaps, taking up blockers and stopping the run. We’re 27th vs the run, have more sacks than last year, and have 4 more sacks than the leagues worst. Historically speaking, we dont have the worst DL. I dont even think we have the worst DL in the league. I think our DL is young and inexperienced..but theyre still talented. Atleast they arent getting thrown on their backs and letting the OL get to the 2nd level on every play.
But the rest of your points are right on, and I too hate that people are seriously calling for Brodie.
yep
the D Line is coming along nicely, IMO
the O Line is improving a little… but there’s much more to go
* "I doubt anyone will miss Connor Barth except UCrawford"
* the LB corps may become the biggest strength of the Chiefs in 2009
* The OL is NOT as bad as you think it is... give it time, and you'll see improvement this season
* Stats are for losers
Aren't these problems Kris?
You said, “Seriously folks. Chill out about criticizing Cassel. Yes he holds onto the ball too long. Yes he doesn’t have the greatest arm in the world. Yes his accuracy is questionable at times…” I don’t know about you, but I want a QB that gets the ball out quickly, has a good arm, and good accuracy. I don’t think we should give this guy a free pass because he doesn’t have the best O-line in the NFL. Our O-line is NOT historically bad; that’s a total exageration. In fact, Jamaal Charles seems to run behind it just fine. A good QB makes his line better by getting the ball out quickly. Not every throw has to take 5-7 seconds to develop. In fact, if you watch the good ones (Manning, Brees, Brady, Favre), they get the ball out very quickly for the most part. They only hold on to the ball if the route takes longer to develop. Cassel seems to hold on to the ball way too long on throws that don’t require it.
I'm with you Petey.
I want a QB who is as good as Brees, Manning, Brady or any of those guys. Last time I checked we were in the same league as them and will have to beat them to get a Super Bowl. The only way we will beat them is by having a QB who is just as good as them. Matt Cassel does not look like that guy.

Do you *know the reason why?
Fixed a grammatical error

I hope your sig
is put in the locker room during Cinci week! I wanna see snail j get plowed!

OH great Joel...you HAD to know this was going to draw a lot of interesting comments.
I’m gonna make popcorn and wait for this one to get brewin LMAO.
I didn’t doubt that though. Haley has good plays designed for the last minute desperate drive. Which we’ve done well with actually.
He did it against Dallas. SO really, why can’t we just do that all game long? Well we started to against SD. Then the bottom fell out. That was so sad. At least it’s something positive to hold on to.
What it may also mean is the other teams are up
by such a huge score that they are willing to allow those 4th quarter TD’s.
Not the case for Pittsburgh however.
or dallas, oakland, washington, oakland

or San Diego... he didn't throw a 4th quarter TD this week

oh, and not baltimore, either... it was tied with just over 2 min left
so, really… you could only make that argument for
Philly, NY Giants, San Diego (first meeting) and maybe jacksonville

this is a point worth mentioning with regards to the Jax game but stag is right about the other games

Cassel next year
could be a top 10 QB in my opinion…pending on if we improve our OL, and if we can retain Chambers or replace him with someone of equal talent. While Croyle has been good this year, I think we can safely say that Cassel can take a hit without having to be placed on the IR, so it is good to know that we have a decent QB who can be our starter for years to come.
I agree

Cassel
was top 10 in alot of catagories last year. Overall, I dont know if he was considered a top 10 but definitely top 15.
Being a top 15 QB in the NFL as a first time starter since HIGH SCHOOL amazes me. I think Cassel could DEFINITELY be a top 5 QB.
Yah you can make an argument for Cassel NOT losing us games.
He doesn’t make horrible mistakes typically. He doesn’t normally get pic’d off. Some of that has been luck, but whatever. He is good at not throwing pics. That’s something.
And he has good teeth
This is my signature line. It is full of awesome and win.

There are so many other QBs out there that make terrible throws here and there...
and they get picked off….Cassel has done a great job not getting picked off this year. The majority of the mistakes he is making are correctable ones. I think the underlying issues with him that might prevent him from becoming a great QB is his inability to make great deep accurate passes and his reluctance to get rid of the ball. I don’t know about Mark Sanchez but I’m calling it now that Stafford is going to be a bust. I watched him when he was at UGA and constantly underperformed. He is much like JaSuckus Russell in that he looks great on some throws and then just has these inaccurate spells where he can’t hit the broad side of a barn. A great arm is one thing in the NFL but if you don’t have accuracy, you’re going nowhere fast (see Leaf).

What about fumbles?
So he hasn’t thrown a ton of picks, he still kills drives with fumbles (leads the league), and sacks given up (leads the league). Cassel doesn’t take care of the football, there’s a reason why our 3rd down conversion rate sucks so badly, and a lot of it is due to sacks and fumbles.
We have such rose colored glasses on here. People are forgetting that a fumble lost is the same as a pick, and a sack given up kills a drive 80% of the time. We’ve got to examine Matt beyond just the standard TD’s versus INT’s stats.
3rd down conversions is probably the most telling stat for a QB....
And we are one of the worst in the league on 3rd down. That is almost all on Cassel.
Cassel will be in the Pro Bowl 2011
Mark my words that guy has shown guts and he can put the ball where it needs to be (except on the deep passes LOL). He will be in the pro bowl 2011
