Chiefs Activate Bowe, Make Other Roster Moves

The Kansas City Chiefs are busy this evening.  Tonight, Josh Looney of KCChiefs.com announced the Chiefs had activated Dwayne Bowe off the reserve/suspended list.  This move was expected, no matter how coy the Chiefs head coach and quarterback approached it.

To make room for Bowe, the Chiefs placed Dantrell Savage on IR.  He's been on and off the injury report since injuring an ankle against the Oakland Raiders on November 15th.

The Chiefs also activated guard Daryl Harris from the practice squad.  This was likely done in response to Brian Waters' designation as doubtful for Sunday's game against the Cleveland Browns

Harris is a 6'4", 300 pound rookie with no NFL experience. He comes from Mississippi where he logged eight starts at left guard last season.

To make room for Harris on the 53 man roster, rookie WR and sixth round draft pick Quinten Lawrence was released.  Lawrence was released earlier in the season only to be re-signed to the practice squad.  With Harris' promotion, there's currently an open spot on the practice squad.  I'm not sure we've seen the last of Lawrence.

So, to recap:

Additions

  • WR Bowe reinstated
  • G Harris from the practice squad

Subtractions

  • RB Savage to IR
  • WR Lawrence released

Is Lawrence still PS eligible?

I think so, but I am not 100% sure. If so, I expect him to be re-signed to the PS if and when he clears waivers (otherwise we already would have signed someone else to replace Harris on the PS).

I like the moves, but it looks like this means Waters is unofficially ruled out for Sunday. Hopefully he gets healthy for the Denver and Cinci games.

I am hoping Ndukwe gets a shot at RG.

yep

* "I doubt anyone will miss Connor Barth except UCrawford"
* the LB corps may become the biggest strength of the Chiefs in 2009
* The OL is NOT as bad as you think it is... give it time, and you'll see improvement this season
* Stats are for losers

I believe thats....

two open positions on the practice squad. They still haven’t filled Dion Gales spot.

I dont' see why they wouldn't put Lawerence on the PS

I’m pretty sure that since he was released from the active roster he had to be release & clear waivers in order to go back. He looked badly out of place in game action, but hopefully with some time to think about it he’ll be better prepared for next season.

Predictions:

Kansas City will not win more than four games in 2009
Kansas City will have a new OC and DC in 2010
Kansas City will win at least seven games in 2010

maybe

we will see a real offense on the field tomorrow with Cassel, D Bowe, Charles and Chambers on the field at the same time, maybe now we will put some points on the board

Maybe.....

Cottam and Pope can get involved as well. More talent on the field may stretch the defense enough that gaps open up & TDs are the result.

At this point in their careers Bowe has a future.

Russel is a third stringer. Bowe has been making bad QB’s lookin` pretty good for a while now.

I’m glad to see him back after the dumbest suspension of all time. He’ll straighten up and perform like a pro now. He’s too competitive to just let something like this happen without an elevated since of play. He nows he owes us one now, because we’ve all given him a pass on this one. He’s no TO or anything of the like. He’s a baller. I can’t wait to see this guy catch some of those crazy balls again.

We’ll see the makings of an offensive rebirth with more and more weapons now. Surely our defense will look better now that they’ll be able to rest some between series.

I’m thinking we go 5-11? We win the toilet bowl tomorrow.

Bengals… well, they’re playing with a little somthin` on their side right now. (Don’t get me started on LJ) But, I think it’s gonna be a close loss for us.

Then we go to Denver a put down a punishing blow for pay backs sake.

da Chiefs!

Prediction: Tamba gets 10 sacks this year.

If he's active

I wouldn’t mind seeing Harris see the field some today. Nothing major of course, but if the opportunity presents itself, get the kid some action and see how he handles it. Maybe as an extra lineman in goal line situations or something like that.

Wasn't Waters given the same opportunity once?

… and never looked back.

Prediction: Tamba gets 10 sacks this year.

ChiefDog

I like that kind of positive vibe. Personnel finds like that will help start the march toward respectability and beyond.
