awesome 5th round
if those guys all are available, I’d be VERY happy with that
Price could be amazing.
what do you know about Lewis and Sharpton? I’m not too familiar
* "I doubt anyone will miss Connor Barth except UCrawford"
* the LB corps may become the biggest strength of the Chiefs in 2009
* The OL is NOT as bad as you think it is... give it time, and you'll see improvement this season
* Stats are for losers
If you read my comments, you will note that I am most concerned with the Center position.
Is Olson good? Also, I like the selection of positions you picked. All are areas of need. What would you do about RG if in fact Waters is gone?(which I don’t think he will be)
I like Olsen
he could be a steal in the 4th or 5th

I like it
Not too wild about burning a second round pick on a RB. More O-line would be better IMO but the rest of this mock is great. One of the better ones I’ve seen so far.
Braccae illae virides cum subucula rosea et tunica Caledonia-quam elenganter concinnatur!
One change
I like this mock, but if we could get Eric Norwood instead of Matthews I think that could be better. More pash rush help couldn’t hurt.
good change!

thank you.
Everything I’ve seen about Norwood talks about his leadership, football mentality, and all the intangibles that we seem to be looking for.
RB - Ryan Matthews
this kid is special! if we can pick him up with our gonzales pick, hed be a steal! Plus we dont want to wear out charles, like we did LJ!
the only thing that got worn out with l.j. was his welcome

Offensive Line.
Its time to put alot of Money into the Oline! Put okung at LT and move albert back to left guard (guard is the position that got him drafted the first round). Olsen will be a fine balanced center! Now RG and RT is a cloudier. Ocallighan needs to play better! Or ethier colin brown or barry richardson needs to pan out! RG , try out some of these big Tackle out at RG. Im also sure we dont want to many rookied Oline on the line at once! 2, 3 seems shakey!
Jax is starting 2 rookie tackles this season.
And they look pretty darn good.
Prediction for '09: Chiefs are looking like a .500 team, especially considering Denver's inattention to D-Line, Chokeland's disarray, and a San Diego team that looks like it's on the decline. With a weak schedule, Chiefs steal a few and win between 7 and 9 games, and if .500 or better, will contend for supremacy in a weak division.
Not a bad mix
I expect KC to be in the five-spot, not fourth, but to each his own. Maybe I’m just an optimist.
If trading back in Round 1 is not an attractive option, then this is not a bad strategy: improve the O-line and get a good young running back, continue the improvement in the running game. The downside is that in a WR-heavy draft there is no wideout pick until mid-round 5. I think the Chiefs need more WR talent to have any chance at getting over five-hundred. And as a general rule, after the third or fourth rounds, I’d prefer to use the later rounds more for defensive prospects.
I agree with drafting a NT and a safety, although I’d prefer to flip the order: safety in round 2, NT in round 3.
OTOH, not terribly excited about the center and RT picks. For center, I’d certainly like to get a better prospect than Olsen, but I agree that with the current configuration, KC probably lacks the picks to get someone else. Even if they used the round 4 pick on a center, not clear how much better that would be…. I don’t know if O’Dowd and Pouncey are coming out this year, which would help, I think.
For RT, I’m not sure that Ulatoski would be an upgrade over the guys who are already on the team, or if we really need to add depth there so much— we’ll have to see how far along Brown is next year to have a good assessment, I think, and if he is moved more-or-less permanently to RG. I think pretty much everyone agrees that this KC team has a serious RG problem.
Shot out to Shooter!!
Where in the world did you get stationed?? Like the picks, however I want to go with extra picks. My new plan is to trade down with Houston (should be around) 14-15. Pick up their 2nd, 4th atleast. They can/will take McCoy who will step in a help their D line.
R1 #14 NT Terrence Cody-Alabama
R2 #36 OT Jason Fox-Miami
R2 #44 LB Brandon Spikes-Florida
R2 #46 G Mike Johnson-Alabama
R3 #69 C Matt Tennant-BC
R4 #101 LB Jermaine Cunningham-Florida
R4 #111 SS Justin Woodall-Alabama
R5 #133 TE Aaron Hernandez-Florida
R5 #140 WR Taylor Price-Ohio
R5 #142 RB DeMarco Murray-Oklahoma
R7 #212 FS Shane Carter-Wisconsin
Broken Record Here
Cody is too risky for KC’s Round 1 pick— he’s just not that good now, and has significant weight/conditioning risks. And he’s at best a two-down player, he has no evidence of pass rush skills. I think he can be obtained later in Round 2, i.e., further down than the Atlanta pick we own, with much less risk if he ends up a bust.
I like the Johnson pick, and Cunningham also, although I have a sneaking suspicion that Cunningham will be gone by the 101st pick. Similarly, I’m SURE that if he comes out, Hernandez will be long gone by Round 5. Agree that Murray is worth a shot as a late-round RB.
Am I the only one who is tired of drafting D-linemen in the first round?
Seriously. Fuck, I swear if they do that again, I don’t know what I’m going to do. It’s redundant!

Interesting idea of a trade-down
I can see where the Texans would love to plug McCoy into their line, I think it would be a significant improvement for them. Nice idea.
arm pit of the army
i am stationed at MacDill but i am deployed in afghanistan at the moment
i want to trade into round one and git cody
git the best offensive tackle or eric berry then git cody in the bottom of the first. i only wish. then we can final git a chance to stop the run
Don't see any elite speed in your DB selections.
I think you’re spending too high for RB on a team that’s not finished setting the table for RB.
Depending on how things fall out, I’d spend KC’s #1 on Eric Berry, and I’d stock up in 2nd, 3rd and 4th on OL. But if Berry and Suh were already gone, and Okung were left, I wouldn’t gripe too much about that. I just think that there’s more value in this draft farther down at OL, trusting the word of others, that they can do more good long-term at tackle, if they can be patient with a later-round pick at tackle, and develop him in-house.
Williams (or Cody) in the 2nd looks pretty smart, to me.
Before we judge our defensive coaches, let’s let the personnel guys do their thing and let our young linemen have some continuity. Don’t fix what ain’t broke. Instead, let’s seal the deal with a bona fide 3-4 NT (preferably a veteran plus a rookie), and get some elite speed into the secondary.
Maybe trade Edwards to a 4-3 team for a mid-round pick (and maybe another late-rounder). I think he’s at or near his high end at NT, and, while he was the best KC had on-hand in April for the purpose, KC still needs a true NT.
Clearly I’m no expert, and I’m not sure what the upside is for Leggett, Morgan and Washington, but unless at least 2 of these guys can come up, JAM, and RUN WITH elite receivers, the KC D is going to continue to have holes in it that we’re going to blame on coaches, GM, and everything but our decision to blow early picks on LB and RB before our secondary’s been shored-up. I really don’t see a lot of elite speed and coverage ability going to be available in FA this offseason. And I’d really like to see the Chiefs draft some of their own, WITHOUT making compromises on speed (and size), because of a commitment to cover-2 principles.

How would you feel about a pass-rushing LB?
I would think one argument that could be made is that if the talent and value at linebacker is better than the defensive back talent at a certain draft spot, you could improve your defense by taking the linebacker and improving your pass rush.
A good pass rush can mask deficiencies in the secondary – New England got away with it for years.
I'm open to the idea. Don't want generalities to blind me to the specific situation.
I just think you upgrade the line and the DBs to effectively make the entire (4-man) LB position group faster, with the LBs already there. I also think it more likely you can plug in speed @ LB more easily, without going high-dollar/high-draft, if you attack these other position groups most aggressively.
But on YOUR side of this, the DB/WR/DL/OL I’d be looking for FIRST would need to have real value.

After today, I'm wanting a better ILB. Damn. Been denying it all year.
