How Do You Want Arrowhead Pride To Cover The Chiefs Game?
You have all heard the news by now that the Chiefs game has been blacked out and will not be shown on local TV for the first time since December 16th, 1990. Whoever's fault you think it is, I think there's one thing we can agree on.
This sucks.
Our normal coverage of the game includes initial post-game reactions, quotes from players and other stuff depicting the general feeling in the locker room after the game. With our press passes, we try to bring you what you don't see or hear on TV because most of you are capable of watching the games and don't need us to tell you the
Well, now that it's not on TV, how do you want us to cover it?
More play-by-play type of stuff?
A bigger post-game recap of the entire game?
Same as always?
Like many of you, this blackout business is new to me. I'm a product of the 80s so my memories of a blackout are pretty limited.
Please leave any ideas and/or requests for us in the comments section.

1. Everyone listen to 101 the Fox Kansas City (One of the best radio teams in the biz).
2. Perhaps report/update some extra descriptions to enhance the radio broadcast…like—if there’s a mistake, try to explain a bit what it seemed to you happened. I think there’ll be lots of people here on Sunday listening on the radio, so I think we should all just pose questions to you and you can shoot us quick responses…
3. NFL.com is streaming the game at Midnight sunday so we can all watch it then. More FYI for others.
I'm not a Cassel fan or a Tamba Hali Fan or a Jamaal Charles fan. I'm a fan of the Kansas City Chiefs.

well said, wreck
* "I doubt anyone will miss Connor Barth except UCrawford"
* the LB corps may become the biggest strength of the Chiefs in 2009
* The OL is NOT as bad as you think it is... give it time, and you'll see improvement this season
* Stats are for losers
I don't live in the area and watch on directv
but if I was in the blackout area I would love some kind of play by play or at least some analysis of the plays for those listening on radio. When you hear something about a player catching/dropping a pass or being called for a penalty etc, sometimes its nice to get soma additional comments on what others who actually saw it think about the call.
Good thoughts KCCheeze and jk86
I also think for those of us that can see the game, we should be putting in a little extra effort in the comments section.
We usually get over 3,000 comments on gameday so more play by play from folks should help.

Oh gosh...
If you are doing a play by play type thing…it would be good to pick a certain person….so 15 people dont post 15 variations of one play all at the same time…
Don't forget to be an AP-vangelist...Tell A Friend...
that'd be sweet
one post, not the open thread, where people take turns doing live observations
no discussion, just detailed observations

Yea...
Well it could be in the thread too (I kinda like the dedicated play-by-play thread idea) but be sure to appoint a capable person so not everyone is taking it upon themselves and flooding it…

The radio guys are usually brutally honest and descriptive...

I like more of a play by play stuff...
I want to know who is playing thier heart out. You can’t always go by stats.

I've seen those chats done before.
It’s a cool system…Great idea SDChief.. I remember going to an Oscarcast one last year where 5-10 people are given access and the rest of us could comment below their specific conversation.
I'm not a Cassel fan or a Tamba Hali Fan or a Jamaal Charles fan. I'm a fan of the Kansas City Chiefs.
good idea
a chat or a section that is locked so only AP writers covering the game can post…although it would be cool if people on here could ask questions about the game to the writers for real time responses.
yeah, i've seen it done that way before Cheeze
It’s like a flash app that only 10 can update…then us lowly folk can talk in the comments below! :)

I don't think play by play is really necessary
NFL.com has a pretty nice play by play set up.
Some details of what people listening on the radio wouldn’t know about would be good.
I think we should just encourage the normal
open thread commenters to be more descriptive.

Yes, and
an encouragement to the members to be patient for updates in the comments.
100+ people clamoring for answers to their questions could get out of hand. A clear focus for them to wait for specific, running commentary would be in order.
Also, it needs to be noted that KCFX’s audio stream sucks. It lags far behind the actual events and frequently stops working.
Patience and an understanding that updates from Joel may happen before the audio stream of the events will be important.

I'm not ready for this
I haven’t missed a full quarter of a Chiefs game in probably 15 years. I MIGHT be able to score some tickets tomorrow, but I can’t get anyone to go with me. Anyone going want to allow a guy to pretend like he’s a friend?
if you're willing to part with $50
buy a pair on ebay.
Predictions:
Kansas City will not win more than four games in 2009
Kansas City will have a new OC and DC in 2010
Kansas City will win at least seven games in 2010
stubhub gave me a row 11 for $25 in the endzone... :)

Definitely play-by-play.
Post game recaps will take care of themselves by this group of damnable folk.
Stream 101 The Fox like I have to every Sunday.
There is something nastalgic about it.
Reminds me of when I was a kid. Specifically in 1969 my buddies and I were out playing basketball. KC was playing Oakland in the AFL Championship game. One of the guys had a transistor radio. We played and listened up to the fourth quarter. Then we just listened, and prayed. Our prayers were answered. You all know the rest.

Do a google search on
“how to watch football”. Be sure to register on the site before sunday so you don’t get blocked. Follow the instructions there for installing codecs before the game. It’s not always reliable, but it usually works.

Wow.. this is a toughy
Well first off I would say that you do it as you would do it. Obviously go with what the fans (like myself) vote for etc.. on how you end up doing it. Me personally am SICK! If I can’t watch them, I don’t want to read or hear about them especially at this point. I love them, but for so LONG now to not be able to even watch them win, lose, tie, suck, blow, blow out etc.. Not for me EVER! If I had the money I would attend the game for sure, but seeing how I don’t raising 3 kids (4th on the way) I just don’t. I would rather just forget this game to be honest if I can’t watch it, when my oldest son asks me why we aren’t I will come up with a lie. I will take honor in explaining to my kids when they get older etc.. but at their age I want them to just remember the best of what I have told them, shared with them and taken them too THE CHIEFS! Too not see it….? Something I ‘myself’ dont’ wish to share with them as they have grown to know on SUNDAYS, Mondays and even in past Thursdays.. it is CHIEFS FOOTBALL! They already know the season is over just as last season, but difference is, well last season we were able to watch! Heck.. we were 2/14 then! Instead.. I will lie. I will tell the kids that the Chiefs are the BEST TEAM in NFL and the greatest of teams REBUILD (have we heard this before)? Bottom line is I will not listen or read anything. Instead, I will take this time to bond with my kids (sure football will be talked) and let them know… CHIEFS FOREVER!!! (ofcourse I will break down some things here and there about the season with them etc.. Let them know this or that to the best that I can) but I refuse to EVER tell my kids that THEY SUCKED SO BAD THAT FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE ‘YOU (my son) WAS BORN THEY HAVE BLACKED OUT! That isn’t going to happen. GO CHIEFS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (psst, Haley.. why did you let go of Chan)?

play by play
no matter how much it hurts us to read it lol
Young, dope & flashy.
Bootleg it
Sneak a video camera in and stream the game on the internet so we can watch from the press box with you…Just kidding
I have AP running during the game so the usual updates (Score, big plays, missed assignments, ect.).
You guys do such a good job all week I know that we will have plenty of info, thanks for the hard work!
Play by play
I don’t get to see any games and it is hard to read comments not knowing what actually happened! I do watch the NFL.com gameday, but it isn’t the same and it is usually one or two plays behind the real thing.
I can’t ever get any of the streaming ones to work either, so I hope that you are as detailed as possible.
For the first time in my life.
I am truly happy that I live in Springfield. Anybody who wants to come down and kick it with me is more than welcome.
That would be awesome!

I think it rests on those of us who live out of town
and have the means to watch the game to do some play by play type of reporting in the open thread. I know that I was working one weekend and couldn’t watch the game but following the open threads was really helpful along with the game-casts on-line at espn and si. It was actually a pretty interesting way to stay on top of the game.
You local guys get the radio broadcast as well.

same as always
because you guys are THE BEST at what you do anyway … making AP the place to be
Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisiton!
Hmmm...
Here’s a possiblity – not to take away from AP, but why doesn’t someone talk to Paddy and see what his plans are over at AA. Maybe give him some traffic on his new site. I know they do a live chat over there during games and I believe he has to approve people to let them into it. If he and a handful of other people do a play-by-play there it won’t be bogged down with 300 other people putting in their two cents. Just a thought.
Wuh Scooter?
You sayin’ you don’t like AP’s open threads? ;)
Braccae illae virides cum subucula rosea et tunica Caledonia-quam elenganter concinnatur!
Haha, little too much bitchin' and moanin' for me
I’m always too busy doing my own bitching, throwing things, and drinking my sorrows away during the game to come here :)

I dunno if it could be done...
But what if one of our posters here did a radio show type thing? There are hundreds of us on this site daily, I know that someone has NFL Sunday ticket + a mic. I’m sure we could find a way to stream it here live at AP. What do you guys think??
"teh Chiefs stumbled around Arrowhead today, lost yet another game to a team not as hoorible as them."
That would sum it up nicely.
why dont u guys just lip read
Todd haley I would tune in for that. I would love to hear todd haley transcript oh man would that be classic. I’m sure todd haley will never ever be miced up for the nfl network he would probably b in prison by half time. Due to amount of fines he would receive by the nfl.

this will be bad
because the people outside kc will be posting stuff as it happens, while people in kc will be listening to the radio with a lag time. it’s gonna get old really fast if people keep saying things before you hear them. same if you are following the play-by-play on nfl.com, there is a huge lag. i’d say it’s best for those watching just to answer questions of those listening, and not trying to give a play by play.
