Haley sucks, and I kinda like it right now.
Don't get me wrong I hate that the Chiefs are the worst that I have ever seen them, but I have come to hope that Haley and the Chiefs fail for several reasons. #1: Haley hasn't really shown me, or any of us, his great playcalling that we saw in AZ. Maybe because they're talent is off the charts compared to what we have (which is probally the case). But still, the playcalling he has done til now, has been awful. It leaves you shaking your head in disgust. Which leads me to #2: Alot of us would like to see you fired, so please blow the rest of the season to prove to us that you really don't belong as a HC in the NFL. #3: I'd love to see us get Suh. I know, I know even if we lost out the rest of the season we still would most likely not get the #1 pick but I'd rather us lose the rest then watch us defeat the Browns in one of the most boring games I'll probally have watched ever. Suh could be a come-in-and-be-a-huge-factor-right-off-the-bat kinda guy. You know kinda the opposite of some guy named Jackson, who I think plays for the Chiefs, but I'm not really sure though.
This team and franchise are the laughingstock right now of the NFL. Pioli is talked about as an arrogant egotistical maniac, Haley is a guy who screams and is just as bad a manager on the sidelines as Herm, and Clark....Clark I dont really know what kind of guy you are, I just hope you are similar to your father. I believed you were bringing in Pioli, but now I've wondered if that was the right choice. Pioli has brought in a coach that seems to lack that of an inspiring and great head coach. Throw some huge money at Cowher, Shanahan (wow, never thought I'd say that), Jimmy Johnson, or someone. You obviously weren't scared to throw that money at a QB who has yet to play up to his expectations.
I'm beginning to wonder, are the Chiefs really starting to enter into the likings of the Lions, the Rams, Browns, Raiders as to where our team is going. I like to think not, and I pray that we are never consistently horrible (although it is what we have been the past 3 years). Who will be the next bust this next draft? I'm tired of hearing about how it takes d-linemen to get it going a while. BS, go look at what other ones are doing around the league right out of the gate. It's not even numbers that are all, it's that there is no presence of him (Jackson) at all. I have yet to see all season him getting to the QB and putting pressure on him. Not ONCE! Suh can be one of those players who can come in and make immediate contributions. That's what we need. But hell if we get into what we need I could sit here and write a paper over that.
If Haley stays, I hope we bring in some great coordinators. But even that is going to be shaky, because lets be honest, who wants to come to a team that has been so bad for the last few years? I hope we have some brave souls who can come in and take that challenge and turn this franchise into something that we once were. Haley looks like he is not the answer. Please Haley, just blow it. Give another guy a chance. Me and any other guy on this website could make the calls you've made. This isn't Madden on Xbox to where if you fail at the first few 4th down tries you can just turn the system off and back on to try it again. This is the NFL, peoples careers, including your own are on the line. So I ask that since you have already begun this season into looking like a joke, lets continue it and ride it on out til the last game hits 00:00. Let's get on with the disappointment and start turning this ship around like many of us thought started last year.

There really are only two points to which I want respond.
Don’t get me wrong I hate that the Chiefs are the worst that I have ever seen them
Did you watch last year?
Pioli is talked about as an arrogant egotistical maniac,
By who? One reporter? Is that all you have to back this up?
If someone asks you if you want extra mayonnaise you have to say yes, cus that's part of it.

yeh
i dont understand everyone wanted someone the opposite of herm and now that they got it there mad again
but i would argue that last year team was just as good…..at least we enjoyed to watch the games, dont get me wrong i like watching the chiefs but its not enjoyable when we are losing to bad teams and getting blown out by good teams….that being said i think if we can get a good defense and coordinator it will make the games more enjoyable for the simple fact if a team scores over 21 we know that our offense cant overcome that deficit
umm
I dont care who the coach is I never want them to FAIL. Wishing failure on anyone on your team is a disgrace.

Have mediocre to shitty seasons to come then see him do awful for 3 games that could save our team for years?

Another DT with the first pick? Really?
Why so Krumrie can coach him into complete obscurity? Why bother? We could be drafting Warren fucking Sapp and Krumrie would turn him into a loser.

So let me see if I understand corectly
You want your team to fail so that the coach you don’t like will get fired and we can draft the player you have a hard on for.
BRILLIANT!!
We should also fire Pioli and hire you as GM. You CLEARLY know how to build a winner.
Oh wait….losing our remaining games won’t get a first year coach fired nor will it land us a draft pick high enough to get Suh.
Your plan is fail.
Have fun rooting against your team.
Don’t quit your day job.
This is my signature line. It is full of awesome and win.

well said
but im not sure we have too root againest him…….im not sure we will win another game, this is our best chance this weekend……i just hope that pioli and haley have the understanding this offseason that we cant miss in the draft and in free agency…….I know its too early to tell about this years picks but it looks as if jackson and succop are going to be the only contibutors……we cant draft projects like washington, brown, williams, lawrence, oconnell. we need players that can contribute.
Exactly
your basically saying how I feel but in a positive way, without everyone on the damn site getting their panties in a wad because I dont want to see Haley again on our sidelines next year.

I don’t know, I think Magee’s started to show something recently.
no i can agree with that
but i was just speaking in terms of starters…….I reallly didnt understand when pioli drafted jackson and magee in the first 3 rounds……he said it was to strengthen the line……but then he trades away tank and were left with one NT….idk guess thats why hes the gm

Head Coach, OC, QB coach, Receiver coach and Gatorade squirter. The guy’s got a bit of a plate full. That should get straightened out by next year and maybe we’ll see some better game management and overall coaching. Or maybe just wishful thinking on my part.
I am not reall much of an expert.
I honestly believe that Haley will remain in one of those positions next year. Maybe that will mean bringing in a new HC & keeping Haley in the OC role. Maybe that will mean the opposite.
Just my humble opinion.
I hope your right my friend
I hope your right. Just right now, Haley looks ridiculous, thats all I am saying.

You might try actually reading the posts and comments here at AP
We’ve covered the topics of the Chiefs sucking, Haley sucking and Suh ad nausium. You might want to contribute to those threads before putting up this kind of flame-bait. We’re trying like hell to be Chiefs fans here. I don’t see how this post contributes to that aim.

I have noticed...
The really good coaches find a play that works and milk it for all it’s worth. I don’t recall seeing that around here since the Dick days. I know we don’t have that many plays that work but, that one play Chambers did across the middle against the Steelers comes to mind…
Same with the double FB set (with TE as H-back),
where the two of them slam into the A-gaps. That one play has been productive virtually every time it’s been tried.
I had the same thought as you on this one, idahochieffan.
Because it’s productive, I’d like to see pass plays off of that formation, with Castille, in particular, helping with protections. Just send Cox down the field, since for him, most of the pass protection is accomplished from a recumbent posture.
Prediction for '09: Chiefs are looking like a .500 team, especially considering Denver's inattention to D-Line, Chokeland's disarray, and a San Diego team that looks like it's on the decline. With a weak schedule, Chiefs steal a few and win between 7 and 9 games, and if .500 or better, will contend for supremacy in a weak division.
You can't possibly go Head Hunting after one season
I would venture to guess that you are under the age of 30 & Trent Green was QB while you were in High School.
Patience young man. Haley has made his share of mistakes, but I see alot of upside to his style. When we get more talent on this team, you will see that he is not afraid to push his players into greatness. He gives them opportunities to excel & toss’s a few plays in the mix that I think are brilliant & fun. They just have’nt been executed properly.
Haley is young, tough, innovative & far from boring. Mark my words,The Chiefs will be alot of fun to watch in the coming years & Haley will be smiling with fans just like yourself.

You cant blame haley for 2 overthrown balls that would have been tds and thats in one game. im sure if you look back there are several calls he made and CASSEL simply missed the target. How is that haleys fault?? i have a feeling if the qb would have done his part and completed a pass you would be saying how great of a call it was instead of critisizing him. cassel was average with great players around him last year so what made people think he could be even average with below average (at best) players
Cassel had poor protection last season and this.
If he doesn’t self-destruct, it’ll be at least another season before we have a clue as to his up-side. In the meantime, he’s tough and tough-minded, which is what the team needs, right now. If he’s still mediocre after more pieces are in place, we can all tear him down.

I kinda wondered if this was one of your first few posts....
not because of your opinin, not because your not entitled to it. Not that or anything like that. Simply because you begin to get a “feel” after awhile for what you can get away with on AP. And believe me when I say I’m glad envelopes can’t fight. cause I’ve pushed the envelope so hard it would have punched me if it could have. But my God man. You can’t say that kind of stuff and hope to survive.
Either that or you’ve got “balls of steel”. If it’s the latter could I borrow the dvd? I need a good work out.
Balls of steel lol!
Can you imagine what that workout would look like?
KC Needs a New OC!
Todd Haley is in waaaay over his head, as head coach and OC. His decision to go for on 4th down, but yet have no real viable play, is mind boggling. You make the decision to go for it on 4th down because you know and believe that you have a play that will work. Right now, one gets the feeling that he makes the decision to go for in on 4th down, he then says to himself" I have no idea what I can run here". You don’t need to try and get cute on a 4th and 1. If you feel you have to “trick” the defense, you have no business going for it, and should instead send in the FG team and take the 3 points. Either you trust in your offense or you don’t. Don’t get me wrong, he doesn’t have too many reasons to have any faith in his offense, but if you don’t, you don’t go for it.
Also, why did we have so much trouble getting the play in, once he did decide to go for it. Instead we have to cal a timeout, and allow the defense time to get their act together for this big play. Why are things in disaray on the sidelines? Are we well coached? The evidence doesn’t show it. We had to waste a time out to get a player in on the punt team. We look like a badly coached high school team. If there was ever a time for Haley to blow his stack it was when his punt team is forced to waste a time out.
Are the players’ heads in the game? Apparently not when we had our 2nd receiver catch a ball, get up a make the 1st down signal, only to later realize that he needed 10 more yards to get a first down. Funny the 1st time, sad the 2nd time it happens.
I hate to say this but I’m also have real concerns about our QB as well. He needs a great QB coach if he ever stands a chance to be our QB of the future. Right now I feel that we dropped a boat load of money on a back up QB! Coach Haley’s future is tied to his QB’s play. If we don’t see improvement next year from Cassels, both he and Haley could be done in 2 years.
Andy Reid did the same thing his first season. He said Haley's playing it EXACTLY right. But what the hell does he know?
In this rebuilding phase, I’m sure Haley has things he wants to see, and the only way he can see those things is if he’s the guy making the calls. He’s taking all the heat for a unit that he KNEW would struggle this year, and over the course of the season, we’ve seen significant upgrades taking place on several fronts on that unit. Not sure that was the kind of juggling act he wanted somebody else doing on a team that he was ultimately responsible for. If he’s worth his salt, this is exactly the way he should’ve played it.
He’s in over his head because he’s a rookie HC. He’s very smart and if OTAs are any indication, very organized and pro-active. He’ll have a lot more systems in place this go-round, and more time to decide whom he wants to bring in (or not) at position coach.
That 1st-down signal was funny. In the heat of the moment, I bet he saw the stick, and in a brain fart, thought it was the 1st-down marker, rather than the original line of scrimmage marker. Not a genius move, by any stretch, but the Chiefs were in a deep hole after penalty/sack on that one, and the mistake was funny and understandable.
Prediction for '09: Chiefs are looking like a .500 team, especially considering Denver's inattention to D-Line, Chokeland's disarray, and a San Diego team that looks like it's on the decline. Im not trying to be rude
but you are the kind of fan that no one needs.
Disagree on all points. Where to start?
Getting their panties in a wad? What did you expect with a “I want the Chiefs to fail so we can draft another defensive lineman” post?
#1: Haley hasn’t really shown me, or any of us, his great playcalling that we saw in AZ. Maybe because they’re talent is off the charts compared to what we have (which is probally the case). But still, the playcalling he has done til now, has been awful. It leaves you shaking your head in disgust.
Yes there is a huge talent difference and everyone knows that. IMO the playcalling has improved quite a bit over the course of the season, it’s the execution that’s lacking. If you want to criticize Haley I’d point to his game management more than the actual playcalling. This point is irrelevant anyway. Haley has already said he wants an OC for next year.
#2: Alot of us would like to see you fired, so please blow the rest of the season to prove to us that you really don’t belong as a HC in the NFL.
First of all, see Paddy’s construction post. A change in HC = the start of yet another rebuilding phase. I don’t care who you bring in, they can’t magically turn this team around in a year. They would scrap the staff and most of the roster and we’ll be right back to square one. And then you’ll want to fire him when he has a losing season and turn this into revolving-door Raider land? We’ve all seen how that works. Secondly, do you really believe that there’s any way Haley gets fired after just one season? He’s here at least one or two more years whether you root for the team to lose or not.
#3: I’d love to see us get Suh.
Again, another defensive lineman? Yes, he’s a dominant player, but there’s no guarantee that he’d tear it up in the NFL as a rookie. More importantly, he would be a 3-4 DE, not NT correct? I’d say that’s pretty damn low on the priority list right now considering the team is littered with holes.
I could continue with just about every line of this post, but I’m not about to write a novel here. You’re giving up on our 1st year GM after we finally get rid of the one that stayed 10 years too long. You’re giving up on our 1st year head coach who’s trying to rebuild a franchise that Herm utterly destroyed. You’re rooting for the team you’re supposedly a fan of to lose the rest of their games because you don’t care for the coach. Ridiculous.
Haley sucks...
Well, yeah, sure. Why not? After all, you could bring in any schmo off the streets as a HC & win 3 games. (sound familiar?)
I’m tired of hearing about how it takes d-linemen to get it going a while. BS, go look at what other ones are doing around the league right out of the gate.
It’s not BS. It’s pretty much proven to be true. Look at Dorsey last year. Solid but not spectacular play. This year he’s starting to come on a bit, even with a position/scheme change.
Also…
Jackson’s tied for third among rookie defensive linemen in tackles. Doesn’t seem like he’s too far off what other rookies are doing.
It’s not even numbers that are all, it’s that there is no presence of him (Jackson) at all. I have yet to see all season him getting to the QB and putting pressure on him. Not ONCE!
It’s not his job to be getting to the QB. He’s supposed to take on blockers so the LB’s can get to the QB.
Can Jackson get better? Of course he can. He’s a rookie. It’s too early to be giving up on him or any of the first year players.
good point
especially with how slow jackson started…he has picked up his production as of late
by cassel4prez on Dec 15, 2009 10:12 AM CST up reply actions
Those numbers are also meaningless.
He seems to be tying up 2 or 3 blockers every play, and he seems to have a NT to the inside who’s consistently pushed off the ball, and typically taken out of the play by a single blocker. Give him some more help in the middle.
But I wouldn’t ever judge him by his stats. I’d judge him by the team stats and that’s after the Chiefs land a NT.
Prediction for '09: Chiefs are looking like a .500 team, especially considering Denver's inattention to D-Line, Chokeland's disarray, and a San Diego team that looks like it's on the decline. With a weak schedule, Chiefs steal a few and win between 7 and 9 games, and if .500 or better, will contend for supremacy in a weak division.
want want want
You just want everything dont ya? Obviously the idea is to get the best players, coaches, front office folks, etc but the real trick/accomplishment is to take what you do have and make the most of it.
I think you should pay closer attention to your own words…
This isn’t Madden on Xbox
Just like novocaine. give it time; always works..
The greater the fall, the grander the ascention..
I understand the poster's logic
I actually feel the same way. I dislike Matt Cassel so much that I hope he fails and gets replaced. I love to see everyone else look good and play their hearts out. I love the Chiefs but I know If they win Cassel gets the credit and my chances of him getting yanked dwindle. I want his play to be glaringly bad.
It’s strange but I’ve never carried my dislike for a single player to this level before, maybe it’s because I’m right. I really think that Brodie could have won last Sunday. Go Chiefs, boo Cassel.
You can tell me to STFU if you want to.
Pretty illogical statement!
Our team as a whole is bad. We are quite void of talent at the skill positions, O-line, safety and linebacker. We have a new GM, new HC, DC, OC and 40% new players. This season is like a dry run and it unfortunately is to be expected. Everyone wants to heap it on Haley and Cassel. No I am not satisified with their performance I believe they can both improve.
Blame our team as a whole right now. If we don’t add a new OC, DC and QB coach and make some good drafts then, I will begin to question the progress. Quit blaming Cassel, really!

Get off his back...
…I’m not sure who’s back I’m talking about, but it doesn’t matter. To question his loyalty/ or love of the Chiefs is silly. He just wants what is best for the Chiefs.
Yes
losing means something is wrong and eventually becomes the catalyst for change. I think the Chiefs need a new QB, but they won’t get one as long as they can keep blaming everyone else. Winning a few meaningless games allows mediocrity to fester.
...wait...what?
Losing games will not replace the QB. Losing games will not replace the HC.
DC? Maybe. Some spots on defense? Probably. WR and o-line, definitely.
QB isn’t going to happen. They’ll give him a supporting cast before they give him the boot. Let’s win some games so we can see where we’ve improved and where the holes are before the offseason.

I'm all in favor of winning.
But win or lose, I want Belichick-style honesty about what’s working and what isn’t. Not Marty-ball self-deception, when a win means everything is hunky-dory, even when you got it on a fluke play by a great individual effort by a single great player (or worse, yo-yo player) on a team with fundamental weaknesses that you ignore.
Prediction for '09: Chiefs are looking like a .500 team, especially considering Denver's inattention to D-Line, Chokeland's disarray, and a San Diego team that looks like it's on the decline. There's already been plenty of change this year
Before we go even more knee jerk reaction, it’s time to reflect and evaluate about what’s happened and move forward. I don’t think that any games are meaningless, and I hate the thought of ever throwing in the towel for any reason.

Can we get some specific examples of bad play calling?
I get tired of that over-reaching criticism: “the play calling is horrible.” Which plays are you talking about? Just because a play doesn’t work doesn’t mean it was a bad call. Which plays should have been called instead? I will admit I don’t know enough about play calling to really have an opinion of it.
