Could I really be to the breaking point??

hello all

I have been a Chiefs fan all my life and fortunate enough to be able to be able to be a season ticket holder the last 11 years. I am now asking myself, am I to the breaking point as a Chiefs fan?

I really think I may be. This franchise is 9-36 in their last 45 games and is giving me no hope that improvement is 'just around the corner'. I have not seen the team win a home game this year (I was out of town for the Steelers game) and i did not see a win at home last year either.

Today when I went I had NO expectations they would win or that it would be a fun game to watch. That is sad. I think I have gone from being an angry fan to being an apathetic fan and I think that is much worse.

My wife gave up going to games with me last year and I really thought it was simply because she had tired of football. Two weeks ago we watched the Saints/Patriots Monday night game and she said...'if the Chiefs were good and fun to watch, it would be great to see a game like this live'. She was right on.

Mr. Clark Hunt, if you want to regain some of your old fan base and attract new fans, you need to make some very hard decisions in about 3 weeks and 1 day. This team has not grown this year and many fans may be becoming like me....Apathetic.

Thanks for reading.

Ray

I'm far from apathetic

and I still think Croyle should start

I think Gutierrez has more "upside."

Chiefs have 99 Problems and Cassel is ONLY one.

by jk86 on Dec 13, 2009 6:14 PM CST up reply actions

Yeah right. Like mabey, I could smack myslef “upside” the head if Gut was under center. Cassels play/haleys playcalling sometimes makes me think ‘what was so bad w/ croyle, he’s got a cannon arm, right? Then I remember, oh yeah, he’s fragile. And, oh yeah, hes 0-8, or 0-9, or 0-whatever…as a starter. Gut is/should be an emergency 3rd string qb, simply because we got cassel/croyle.

by motrepip on Dec 13, 2009 6:35 PM CST via mobile up reply actions

That is exactly what Gut is

We really have nothing to lose in allowing you to have your way...

Put Croyle until he gets injured….we will have only wasted approximately 1 quarter.

Yeah. Maybe so.

Cassel looks like he could use the break

maybe - then again, woody, maybe not - maybe Croyle does well, maybe Croyle sparks the team

maybe he does really well and the offense hums and we actually, you know, like WIN a game or something …

but then I guess we’ll never know, will we … we’ll just be stuck with what we have, and losing, because … well, just because seems to be the only “reason” that I can come up with NOT to start Croyle at this point

by upamtn on Dec 13, 2009 9:11 PM CST up reply actions

Ya know, all this talk about starting croyle… It kinda reminds me of week 1 vs ravens. Croyle got to start, and we couldve won that game. I remember seein him with his head down in defeat. I felt sooo bad for him. I do wish he could get just one win as a starter. Poor guy.

by motrepip on Dec 13, 2009 9:18 PM CST via mobile up reply actions

You aren't given anything in the NFL...

You earn it…he had how many seasons to earn a starting role?

I don’t want to hear about how money is giving Cassel the starting job. Some of the biggest incidences of “entitled” players getting benched for better performers in recent years have included Haley on the staff, we know that makes no difference to him.

In addition, Why did Trent Green want out of KC? Because Croyle not only was given the chance to become the starter, Trent knew that it was weighted for Brodie. Brodie not only had a fair shot, he was unfairly given the position.

And last is simple. He has never won a game. Ever. No spark can be expected from that.

He will be out of the league soon.

Croyle: 0 Wins Cassel: 3 wins

not much better, but it’s better.

Sounds like another fan with unrealistic expectations. This team was terrible coming in to the year. It takes more than one offseason to turn around a team that basically had no talent at any position. What exactly are the changes you think should be made as soon as the season is over?

If someone asks you if you want extra mayonnaise you have to say yes, cus that's part of it.

poor game manager

Haley is a poor game manager…simply put , poor. He wasted his first challenge today, should have kicked a FG with 2:30 and TWO timeouts left and kept calling that freaking stupid WR screen play.

I was willing to give Haley and Pioli a long look. This team is not better anywhere. Their D is very poor and their O is worse.

I have not seen growth this year, shouldn’t we at least be able to expect that? My expectations are unrealistic because I want to see progress. I totally disagree with you JComp.

Eh. It's frustrating but no way I'll give up

This kinda thing goes in cycles. I hate watching them lose and I do get pissed off about some of the bone-headed mistakes that the organization makes along the way, but it’s still fun looking for ways to solve the problems. I’m not an eternal optimist by any stretch, but looking for the bright spots to build on is what keeps me going. Seriously, we have a few.

Ive lost faith in cassel and haley!

Cassel cant hit open receivers and Haley is a HORRIBLE play caller! When the ball hits the receivers in stride they are so surprised that its there that they drop passes! Haley still thinks he is in Arizona and wants our receivers to be Bolden and Fitzgerald… Our offense should revolve around Charles not Cassel..Charles , Flowers and Hali keep me watching! I just hope Pioli evaluates talent in the draft better next year and brings in “quality” free agents.

That deserves a rec Ray

Being a fan is difficult.
You are a true supporter which is infinetly harder.
This ship is turning, have some Fan and if you need to keep your money in your pocket until the team is better. I have no problem with that. I listened on the radio for years and thanks to people like you I got to watch my favorite team on TV.
Thanks Ray and all the other Chiefs supporters that bought their season tickets:)

by upamtn on Dec 13, 2009 9:12 PM CST up reply actions

That it does.

I went through a serious emotional roller coaster today. We push and push and push, and just when we build momentum, we do something stupid (penalty, fumble, INT, give up huge play) and then back to square one. I’m not sure I’ve seen a collective self-sabotage the likes of which I’ve seen today. It’s gonna be a long process of acquiring enough talented players to replace what we are fielding on Sundays. Get your flashlight…………..

Yea, i never understood that saying...

I still look forward to the Chiefs every Sunday.

My recommendation is to take a small break from them to stymie your own frustrations as a fan. But never say you give up on YOUR team. Fan for life.

APATHETIC?? NEVER!! We are Chiefs fans. This is what we do.

We lose. We hope. We believe. Repeat. No apathy in there though. It’s hard to watch your team get the snot beat out of them over and over again isn’t it though guys?

by krayfish on Dec 13, 2009 6:25 PM CST reply actions

it is but better days are ahead.

and success will taste THAT much better after all the crap Chiefs fans and the team have been through.

by worc on Dec 13, 2009 6:29 PM CST up reply actions

Exactly! I keep tellin my wife(colts fan)"payton mannig is going to retire one day and then they might not be as good, but you gotta stick w/ them(colts), through the good and the bad. And when years from now (hopfully sooner) our team is good again, ill feel better than if I let them go when things got bad and hopped back on the bandwagon when things are good. Fairweather fans suck!

We actually like the Raiders 1st game played well enough to win.

We are going to seriously crush some teams, maybe next week:)

good disguises

Clark needs to be aware of the canny Chiefs fans as MANY were disguised as empty seats today and I have heard many more will be disguised that way next week.

Today may have been the smallest crowd I have seen in the 11 years I have had tickets and we all know next week is going to be worst.

I personally to not think people should be upset at fans not turning out to see the Chiefs play. As paying customers, we all deserve to expect to see a good product.

The thing that sucks about being at the breaking point for me

is that I dont really know this team before it sucks. I just know the Vermeil era sorta. I was young during that era and no one in this house is a Chief fan. I started paying more attention to the game during the Herm Era. So, quite honestly, I dont know this team when it didnt suck.

Ya know

There could be an interesting poll in that. I’d bet that the “old guard” is generally more optimistic.

The "old guard" is more optimistic

because they (I feel this way also) understand that everything in the league is cyclical. We are at the worst point in this era of the Chiefs, but we will be on the upswing in a matter of time.

This was Cassel's best game

and it’s not going to get any better. Please, please let Brodie have a chance.

by choirboy on Dec 13, 2009 7:46 PM CST reply actions

Lets not beat an old horse.

Brodie…isnt…good…

Id rather see him thrive on another team. This once is just too bad for him to win a game.

by NJChieffan16 on Dec 13, 2009 8:01 PM CST up reply actions

If it would do any good I would like to see Croyle have a chance to start as well

but I don’t see it doing anything lasting so they won’t. I think Cassel could start to step up if his guys would catch the ball. He would gain some confidence that way and then move on.
