QB Matt Cassel has 10 TDs and no INTs in the Red Zone, good for a 101.0 rating.

He also magically plays linebacker...
so we should rake him over the coals for, y’know, not scoring 88 points on offense so we could even come close to competing with the teams we played the last two weeks.
Our defense gave up 87 points in two weeks and the only thing people want to talk about is Matt Cassel. Classic.

I can't believe all the Cassel bashing...
if half of those dropped balls are caught, momentum changes, different ballgame.
"The way this works is you string together some good games, some good practices and you get momentum and you gain confidence," linebacker Mike Vrabel said. "It can be a real positive for your team. It builds on itself."
He's an easy target. Good looking, successful, wealthy, and new.
So lots of people aren’t really emotionally invested in them like they are other players. It’s impossible to ignore how much the deck is stacked against him at this point. I think he’ll be fine too once he gets some help.
And once again, its ridiculous how much attention he’s getting this week when on the other side of the ball it’s been as if Chiefs have been fielding 4 players on defense. The Saints are probably the only team that can match the point totals our opponents are putting up, and that’s firing on all cylinders and using all of their weapons.

I think its a huge problem that we're focusing so much on Offensive woes.
Remember the Vermeil years? When our Offense was amazing but our defense was completely ignored? We’re still paying for those sins. The only way we can ever be successful is to have a strong team, filled with strong position players, on both sides of the ball.

The defense has been consistently bad
Matt’s had two really bad games in a row. I think the difference is expectations. After beating Pittsburgh, people expected Cassel to step up and become the 400 yd per game QB he proved he could be in NE last year.
On defense, I think it’s just expected that we give up big plays, and Cassel is supposed to overcome them.

You're right...it tends to highlight things when he has two bad games in a row.
But we’re just going through growing pains, and I feel comfortable knowing we can build around him in the future. I don’t think all hope is lost, and it helps A LOT to have a QB when you’re rebuilding. Imagine if we had Cutler and his 20INT’s in 11 games…yikes!

Not saying you, but whoever actually thinks this way is set up for failure. So much patience is required for the situation this team is going through. Patience!
Seriously, 87 points. What happened to DEFENSE! Clap clap DEFENSE!
We just honored DT on Sunday and we haven’t struck fear in an opposing offense since his playing days. Sad really.
BUT OMG GUYZ LETS TALK ABOUT OUR QBOTF ISSUES! I hear Brodie and this blazing-hot offense can TOTALLY score 40+ points to stay in games…

Excellent Stat!
Sure are a lot of haters out there right now. I for one think Cassel will be solid in the long run and will have a strong performance this week against the bills despite their pass defense.

He makes good decisions
That’s why I think he’ll be a solid QB for us.
Predictions:
Kansas City will not win more than four games in 2009
Kansas City will have a new OC and DC in 2010
Kansas City will win at least seven games in 2010
Woah!
Let’s keep it in perspective.
Last week’s rating: 14.6
Season Avg: 72.3 (good for 26th right behind Brady Quinn)
He clearly needs to spend more time in the red zone to improve his numbers.

I don't think the Chiefs would mind if he did spend more time in the Red Zone
* "I doubt anyone will miss Connor Barth except UCrawford"
* the LB corps may become the biggest strength of the Chiefs in 2009
* The OL is NOT as bad as you think it is... give it time, and you'll see improvement this season
* Stats are for losers
Your perspective is much appreciated...
but let me give the flip side of the coin for the past two games, let alone the whole season.
1. Our Defense can’t stop anyone with even a touch of a good offense right now. If we played the Saints, they’d surely score 70 points on us.
2. Cassel’s best target (minus his dropped passes), DBowe, has been out the past couple of games.
3. Cassel has no TE that can catch or get open with which to throw to…a big plus when you have as terrible a line as we do (even as they’re getting bettter).
4. Let’s totally forget about the OLine (since everyone knows them and how they are). Cassel has TEs and RBs in front of him that couldn’t block a freakin’ flower if it was headed their way.
5. Our rushing attack has gotten better since we ditched 2.7 but it is still fairly anemic compared to where it should be (thanks mostly to our line’s inability to run block).
6. Yes, he had a QB rating that was low…but how demoralizing would you be if your receivers kept dropping passes over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again?
Yes, Cassel is not where he should be right now…but we have too many holes (where someone is supposed to be playing this game called football but looks more like a tame game of red rover) to focus on one positional player. Yes, if we had been in the Vikings situation where we had a solid team and a crappy QB, then you can point the finger all day long at the QB and his poor play…the problem with the Detroits, Oaklands, Clevelands, and Washingtons out there is their administration/coaches have no patience. They will bench a QB at the flip of a switch if he plays poorly (well outside of Oakland…who should’ve benched JaSuckus a year ago). I look at the great Defenses out there and then look at ours and you know what ours looks like in comparison is that it is soft and predictable. Who can you blame on that? The players to an extent but I blame our crappy Def Coordinator who we should never have hired.
"Gonna gallop all over the Chiefs. Cleat prints on the chests. Mud in the face masks." - 2.7* *Yes I know it was changed to 2.9 but f*ck the statisticians.

people keep saying he "does nothing like a starting QB'
he’s been MONEY in the red zone
he’s been MONEY in the 4th quarter when the game is on the line
he’s showed nothing but class and leadership
that’s what i want from my QB

* the LB corps may become the biggest strength of the Chiefs in 2009

I agree stag, the more I think about it lately Cassel could be a gigantic jerk if he wanted to be.
And THAT’s why I respect him. He doesn’t complain. He dusts himself off and keeps his head up. I’m proud that he’s a Chiefs (several other teams wanted him, and if Josh McDaniels recent comments hold true—many of them STILL want him). However, He has lots of ammo if he wanted to go off on a media tirade, but that’s not his thing:
- I have no time to throw.
- When I have time, I have no one to throw the ball to—receivers aren’t open or they drop so many passes I can’t trust them when we need to make a play. I try to avoid INT’s when I can so I hold onto the ball.
- The playbook and offensive coach was changed a week before the season began.
- It’s pretty easy to fumble when the ball sails several feet above your head or two linebackers are in the backfield the moment I touch the ball. No football training can prepare you for crap like this— maybe Ringling Brothers can teach me how to juggle.

+1 !
So you think you are so important that no one can replace you? Put your finger in a bucket of water and pull it out. Does it leave a hole? Nope, just some ripples that eventually calm themselves!

For home games
we should have the scoreboard permanently on 4th quarter…..hahaha. Seriously though, I think he has no fear in the clutch. I like that……
Defensive woes > Offensive woes

Also, he's taken an ungoldy beating this year.
The dude is tough as nails.
Toby is in HR, which technically means he works for corporate, so he's really not a part of our family. Also, he's divorced, so he's really not a part of his family.

I will agree he has done nice in the red zone.
It’s too bad we rarely ever get there. (2009 Chiefs 32nd in the league in red zone attempts)
Just sayin :-)
Cassel...
I like him with a stronger supporting cast: a line and running game, a TE and slot receiver. I don’t like him trying to be John Wayne.
O-line improvement.....really....I don't think so!
Over the last few games Cassel has had more time to throw. The reason, mass protection. It takes too many players to protect our QB and then we don’t have any one open. I saw 3 Bronco players around a lot of our WR’s. Then if we get a chance to make a play with a little window, our WR’s drop the ball all too often. There are so many dynamics for the offense to work and right now Cassel has no open receiver to throw it to. O-line is by far our biggest need to get off of Matt Cassel and pay attention to the underlying symptoms.

Now
If we can just work on the other 80 yards of the field.
