Chiefs Bring Back NT Lokey, Release NT Favorite
Entering today, the Kansas City Chiefs had one spot on the practice squad open due to Quinten Lawrence being promoted to the active roster over the weekend.
Now that spot has been filled.
Familiar face NT Derek Lokey returns, Josh Looney of KCChiefs.com reports. The former Texas Longhorn signed with the Chiefs as an undrafted free agent in May of 2008. He spent most of the 2008 season on the practice squad before being promoted to the active roster on December 19th.
He was released from the team during the September cut week this season. He spent much of training camp backing up Ron Edwards and then Chief Tank Tyler.
Lokey could be a valuable commodity at some point if current nose tackles Ron Edwards or Kenny Smith goes down.
And because they added a nose tackle to the practice squad, the Chiefs evened it out and released Marlon Favorite from the practice squad.
Favorite was signed by the Chiefs on October 21st of this season. He hails from LSU so his departure means the Chiefs can't feature an all-LSU defensive line with DEs Glenn Dorsey and Tyson Jackson.
So, the Chiefs have one open spot on the practice squad. Do they sign someone straight to the practice squad? Does someone from the 53 man roster move down?

* "I doubt anyone will miss Connor Barth except UCrawford"
* the LB corps may become the biggest strength of the Chiefs in 2009
* The OL is NOT as bad as you think it is... give it time, and you'll see improvement this season

They need to put Lawrence back on the Practice Squad
I know everyone loves a fast guy, but the kid is not ready to play in the NFL. He probably never will be.
not like bradley is really running away with the 4th/5th reciever spot

I'll take Bradley every day over Lawrence
At least Bradley doesn’t flinch every time the ball is thrown at him.
what's your basis for that analysis?
Honestly, I didn’t see him play on Sunday, but from the numbers he did an OK job on KR…
5 for 94, 18.8 avg
I think he’s still green, too… but he does have potential, and Haley said he’s come a long way.
Just wondering what you saw that indicated otherwise….

I have to agree with DJ
I think he was averaging around 14 yards till he got a good one. I really think this is a case where NFL Europe would have helped develop him.
Winning begins with Attitude - Haley and Pioli will be winners in KC!
I'll forever be a Chiefs fan! Only God himself could take that away from me, but when I get to my great reward, I'll rejoin two bigger fans, my Mom and Dad.
again, I'm not arguing either way
I’m just not sure we’ve seen enough of him to judge…
did he even get an offensive play?

He didn't play on offense last week, but we saw him at the beginning of the year
He has zero ability to catch the ball with a Safety coming down on him. Dude is scared of getting hit.
Aside from one end around he took for a decent run, I don’t remember him doing anything good when he was on offense, and he was given plenty of chances early in the year.
Decent on the come-back route after driving the DB upfield with his speed.
But that’s just the one trick.
No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.
This is just comparing QL's running style to Jamal Charles
Jamal bounces(moves laterally) around and absorbs hits… pushing for extra yards.
Quintin Lawerence can’t take those hits. He just caught the ball and ran as fast as he could in a straight line. Boy is he fast… and very green. I say give him more kick returns and let him loosen up back there. He could possibly become a very good kick returner. Throw him in a couple times as a WR to change the tempo…
He hasn’t looked very good yet, but I think he needs to build some experience before he gets kicked to the curb.
agreed... he's green for sure
but, he does have some ability
I’d give him a few more end-around/reverses as well
AND, once he can be trusted, maybe get him a PR or two, see how he does
It’s WAY too early to give up on this guy… he was a 6th rounder from a small school… that’s the definition of a “project” player

18.8 yd avg is HORRIBLE for a kick returner
That means if he catches it on the 5 yard line, he is only getting to the 25. Thats pretty crappy. He’s getting tackled by the first guy down the field pretty much every time.
And runs straight into the middle of the wedge
I believe I saw him split our own two man wedge and got tackled right in front of them.

Yes
It wasn’t pretty to watch
"The way this works is you string together some good games, some good practices and you get momentum and you gain confidence," linebacker Mike Vrabel said. "It can be a real positive for your team. It builds on itself."
Until we get the backup RB position solidified though....
It looks like we are stuck with Lawrence returning kicks for a while. I don’t see how the special teams player of the week can lose KR duties a week after winning the award. That may be the first time that has ever happened.
I was a strong opponent of this decision.
