What Are the Problems With Our Team??? I Have an Anwer

The problems to me are clear. It really boils down to a couple of different things. I like being critical and I'm quick to call for someone's head. It does not matter if you only had one spoof, I'll do it. I am so fast to turn my back on people. This time, however, I'm still complaining about the same things other than Matt Cassel. No Matt is playing well and I'm impressed.

Star-divide

Mike Brown!!! Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike. Holy Heck. He's costing us games. Can anyone really argue with me? Whats all this 'Todd Haley Guy' stuff?? Does that mean that if I were a 'Todd Haley Guy' I could play? I'm a 25 year old chain smoker that would be hospitalized after getting hit in full pads. He should be cut. Get someone else please. Larry Johnson was a Todd guy and he played terribly. Its so stupid. I don't like it and I don't think it will ever work. Let me put this whole theory into a different perspective: "If I like you and you have experience you can play even if you suck. You can lose games for us and I'll play you as long as you do what I say." Doesn't that sound stupid?? That's what he is saying though people.

This brings me to my next point. The play calling is terrible. Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Charles have an 8 yard run and he didn't run it again for two more drives?? Todd Haley isn't calling the game correctly. We need to run it Todd!! The third and longs can't be blamed on Larry Johnson's inability to move his feet anymore. Its on Todd. It almost seems like that was just an excuse for Todd to throw the ball more. No more excuses. That's right people, I'm calling for Todd Haley's head as an OC. Not gonna work.

That's all I got. Please comment and put me in my place or calm me down because right now I'm furious. Thanxxx

Well, Thanks for waiting till Monday

The frustration is still real.
My WTF’s
1. Why are we not throwing deep balls?
2. Why on 3rd and 17 are we throwing 8 yard passes?
3. Why are we having our Man-block O-lineman Zone-blocking?
4. Why are we shuttling in a Nickel defense, when they consistently fail? looking at LB’s here! Belcher anyone!
5. Haley scripts the first 11 plays of the game? Why, as some one told me that is the O production for the 1st half.
6. Why do we even play a TE on this Offense. Doesn’t block and can’t catch. Waste of players on the roster is what I think!

We Will kick at least 4 Teams Asses in 09
And Succop will be the Key in two of them.

Yeah....YEAH.

Where the hell is the deep ball?? If we had a run game there would be more guys in the box so we COULD have a ddep ball game. The best pass game is a good run game ya know. The stupid little eight yard passes on third and seventeen are stupid. Its another thing that could be solved by running. The defensive things all come down to depth. We don’t have any. I’m still pissed about Bonecrusher. I’m not gonna let it go. As I sit here and watch the one loss donkeys I think about the negative person that Marshall was and he’s still on the team. I think that it is up to the coach to make those players work and if the coach is weak the players don’t respond. The more I think about it the more I dislike Todd Haley.

by CalCapone on Nov 9, 2009 9:35 PM CST up reply actions

Thanks for this valuable contribution to the conversation

But I won’t leave it at that and look like a hypocrite. I think Coach Haley is trying a bunch of things out right now, throwing it at the wall and seeing what sticks. Thus far, not much is. If I could give him a couple of suggestions, I would say to use screen passes and play action more in order to keep the defense guessing. That would also free up some space for the running game. It’s tough to call plays for a bad o-line, but he can do it.

by Soria's Unibrow on Nov 10, 2009 1:11 PM CST up reply actions

Soria - thing is, you can't run play-action and be successful unless you first establish the run

and that’s something Haley has yet to do … run run run and then run some more, the defense has to believe it’s going to be a run regardless of what down it is, otherwise they sit back in a soft zone and wait for the pass

but hey, nice try and thanks for the thought

Actually, if you watch AZ last year, they ran up the gut with little success...

… but enough determination that defenses still respected the play fake. Gave Warner just a teensy bit more of a chance, and “teensy” is the UPside of Cassel’s chances, with or without the fake.

No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.

We need to just put an o-lineman at TE..

It’d help alot.. Exactly what the steelers are doing if you’re watching the game.. I remember when we had dunn and we have 6 lineman lol well not technically but still..

by Kcbiggyblue on Nov 9, 2009 9:25 PM CST reply actions

Hell yes

We need a serious blocking TE.

Yeah, but WTF?

It seems like all the damn TE’s we look at are of the catching variety.

worked out withKC, hasn’t signed….yet

* The OL is NOT as bad as you think it is... give it time, and you'll see improvement this season

I know it!

And I find it to be incredibly frustrating that we haven’t signed him but we still carry an army of inactive catching TE’s.

How about Brad Cottam?

Seriously, Are we really giving credit to ioli’s talent evaluation still (Pollard). Cottam is the best blocking TE we have and is a better play maker then Ryan. I say put him in, if not to imediatly contribute, then just to get him reps.

Why even look for a blocking TE?

Just put Barry Richardson or Wade Smith or someone out there and never have them go for a route.

You know

I’ve actually had that thought. We have some linemen who clearly aren’t good linemen (in the traditional sense), and we’re certainly in pre-season experimental mode. Why the hell not?

ok, so lemme get this straight ... you're saying Mike Brown and "play calling" are what's wrong with the Chiefs?

that’s IT?!?!?!?!?!?

wow,ok … I’m shocked, honestly … I have no idea what to do now, because, see … I can do the famous “sarcasm font” (see above) but I have no idea how to do the rarely seen “incredulous look font”

Mike Brown and play-calling … right, gotcha … gotta tellya, if that’s all that’s wrong with this team, they’re in FAR better shape than I thought!!!

the more injured our safeties get, and the worse the overall play of the healthy safeties, the higher our likelyhood of drafting berry

by CalCapone on Nov 10, 2009 8:20 PM CST up reply actions

When you see the playcalling done right, it's always so simple.

This is really apparent after watching both McDaniels and Tomlin go after the obvious mismatch and go after it AGAIN. And AGAIN. Not just arbitrary changeups in order to be unpredictable. OC isn’t great for being unpredictable. They’re great for finding something that works.

Bad OL? Put a 6th widebody in there. Trade sacks and demoralizing completions with the defense. Cassel’s big ‘n’ rough enough to pull a pretty good Big Ben imitation. Why not mix it up, since the close-to-the-chest-don’t-look-now-but-i-pulled-my-horns-in offense NEVER works?

And why not run it again if you get 4 or better on the first run?

One of the things that’s tough to gainsay is the decision to throw on 1st down. To establish itself, an offense needs to prove it’ll take its chances with 3 straight throws and convert by or before the 3rd one a high percentage of the time. THEN you have somethin’.

No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.

by hmills110 on Nov 10, 2009 12:53 AM CST reply actions

Thank you Mills

Game-plan and play-call based on the strengths of you players. Go with what works. How hard is that? I don’t understand why so many coaches fall in love with a scheme rather than working with what they have.

Braccae illae virides cum subucula rosea et tunica Caledonia-quam elenganter concinnatur!

by Buck'O on Nov 12, 2009 9:38 PM CST up reply actions

I think the Bill Walsh innovation of scripting the first 10+ plays on offense tricked a lotta OC's into thinking

that brilliant play sequences were the way to go. And I can see how a carefully chosen sequence might beat the defense’s sword out of line for the offensive thrust to the guts. But after years of watching Martyball attempt (and fail) to capture the essence of West Coast Offense, and seeing SIMPLE street-ball stuff work in the league more recently, I think a LOT of fans (and coaches) think it takes a genius playcaller to 2nd-guess defenses on “situations,” and ignore obvious mismatches-by-formation and the like.

Half of Payton Manning’s genius is just looking left, seeing a 10-yard cushion on Harrison and knowing he has 8 yards in his hip pocket pre-snap.

No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.

by hmills110 on Nov 12, 2009 10:01 PM CST up reply actions

This post is ridiculous and I'm offended...

How can you sit there and bash MIke Brown after all he’s done for us? You think just because he’s given up 3 Td’s that cost us a minimum 2 games that he somehow deserves to be blamed for his actions?? Bullshit.

He’s a Haley guy…which means he can’t be wrong. Somehow those missed assignments that cost us the Dallas game and the Jax game must be someone else’s fault…oh yah…those were because of Pollard…who is NOT a Haley guy….see my point?

Yah me either…Haley’s a douche bag. He gives our talent away. We need to be stacking up picks for next year…so he couldn’t have put Pollard on the IR or practice squad and then traded him for a pick to Houston? No no no that’s too intelligent. Cut the bastard, he sucks anyway…all he’s done is save the Texans season and picked off Manning twice in one game…

How can you bitch about that move? After all while Pollard is helping the Texans by intercepting passes, (which btw, he supposedly sucked at coverage as a Chief…weird huh?) our wonderful Haley guy, Mike Brown is blowing assignments and costing us games. So how can you bitch? Isn’t that what Haley should be doing? Comeon.

This isn’t a rebuilding process here in KC guys…it’s a demolition project…we’ve had more turmoil and stupid ass dealings of our talented players in 8 games than I’ve seen here in 3 years. What gives?

So please stop blaming Mike Brown and the Play calling…just because Haley wants to set up long pass plays that take 4 minutes to develop and after getting sacked twice runs the shotgun up the gut to LJ running play EVERY time, how can you blame him for that? You seriously think that just because Haley fired Chan and calls the plays himself that somehow that makes him responsible for the play calling??? I don’t get it. That’s preposterous…it has to be somebody else’s fault.

by krayfish on Nov 10, 2009 7:41 AM CST reply actions

kray, I have to come clean here, it's ... all ... my ... fault ...

blame me for Brown’s poor play, blame me for the OL issues, blame me for running 2-point-7 out there week after week, blame me when Over The Dwayne Bowe drops a ball that’s within reach … it’s my fault we have four TEs and none of them know what a block is, much less how to perform one …

I’m responsible for the playcalling, and for the defense playing with such an invisible scheme that pur opponants can find the holes in our coverage 5 weeks down the road … the burdon of responsibility falls on my shoulders for all player production, and for player attitude

you know, I really felt like we had a good practice one day last month, and thought that was going to turn this team around, but it hasn’t … I know you, kray, and other dedicated Chiefs fans want and deserve so much more, so I want you and everyone to know that, by golly, we’re going to work even harder than ever before

as you know, mistakes will NOT be tolerated and heads will roll … so please, blame me for all of it, and rest assured that I plan on making the team work harder and longer than ever before so that they continue doing the same, stupid things for you, the loyal fans

yes, I’m at fault, blame me for everything … but now, if you’ll excuse me, I have some signs to put up

Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisiton!

Mike Brown's fault?

Or was it Scott Egoli’s fault? Belichik somehow found a player by the name of Brandon McGowan to play safety and we got Mike Brown. Hmmmmmmm…..

Know why I brought up McGowan – both McGowan and Brown’s last team was the Chicago Bears, while Brown was a off-injured proven commodity, McGowan was unproven and often injured. McGowan is a bit younger and has less mileage.

Pioli went with what the stat sheet showed with Mike Brown, while Belichik again discovered a lesser known football player in McGowan – an eye for talent.

Predictions as of 06.24.2009.

Larry Johnson will be a top 3 fantasy pick once again in 2010 (after a monster season in 2009.)
Dwayne Bowe will be a 2009 Pro Bowl selection.
Brandon Flowers will have at least 6 INTs in 2009 season.
Todd Haley will have a sideline shouting match caught on TV yelling at one of his asst. coaches.

by 58 was my friend on Nov 10, 2009 6:42 PM CST reply actions

Well...

I’m not as quick to jump Pioli’s ass. Typically he just brings the players and Brown was just one of many. Haley is the one that chose Brown. However if next season we contiue to see poor talent being brought in, trust me, Pioli will be on my shit list.

by CalCapone on Nov 10, 2009 8:05 PM CST up reply actions

in this case ... proven vs unproven ... you can't bash Pioli too much

if he’d taken McGowan instead, and he flopped here and Brown had gone to NE and done well, for example …

no, you want to slam Pioli for something (and I most certainly do) then slam him on pitching Pollard to the curb

by darwithabar on Nov 12, 2009 10:29 PM CST up reply actions

And like as not, when the Chiefs DO get pressure, they're soft in the secondary, so the quick pass WORKS.

Definite Pressure versus Coverage dichotomy killin’ the Chiefs, right now. Can you say the Chiefs had a SINGLE coverage sack this year? I kinda doubt it (but I COULD be wrong).

Brown’s struggles aside (and I bet he’d be better if the ball WERE being forced out more quickly), I haven’t liked the style of play shown by the Chiefs secondary since BEFORE Tampa-2. It’s like they’ve been ANTI-coached for the past 7 or 8 years.

No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.
