MNF Open Thread: Donkeys and Steelers

It's Steelers at Broncos tonight AP readers. Can we please see a Broncos' loss tonight? The Chargers are sitting at 5-3 and within striking distance of the Broncos, who are currently 6-1.

Check out the Steelers on SBN at Behind the Steel Curtain.

And you can find the Broncos on SBN at Mile High Report.

Thank you to Patrick Allen for getting this post together. I hope tonight is a fun game to watch.  -Chris

Ty Law's signing suggests the Broncos are concerned about the secondary holding up.

Has anybody gotten hurt? I know that Champ is still pretty much a champ, but he’s in his golden years in the league, now. A once-great, who’s still good, and makes a lotta money.

Law is a sensible pickup in facing Pittsburgh, though. A smart, tough corner might be just the thing against Hines Ward, who’s tougher than he is fast.

No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.

by averagegatsby on Nov 9, 2009 8:40 PM CST up reply actions

Agree.

BUT he was likely to grow into the position – not a sure-thing (or as sure as possible thing) that everyone pointed to as a dominant NFL left tackle.

No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.

by hmills110 on Nov 9, 2009 8:43 PM CST up reply actions

i think we are splitting hairs

i will agree we need to put him wherever he plays best, not play him at a position because we “have” to

by Lucasjr5 on Nov 9, 2009 8:44 PM CST up reply actions

Hey, and I'm just LEANING away from Albert.

I’d let wiser heads make the final call, but it looks like he’s always going to struggle out on an island. He’s just not clear on who his guy is, and it causes him to whiff and/or just puts him in poor position to sustain his block. I think he has the feet and the power to get it done, but too many blown assignments.

But I’d still like to hear from a trenches guy, because there might be mistakes by those on either side of him that are putting him in bad spots.

No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.

by hmills110 on Nov 9, 2009 8:51 PM CST up reply actions

there were older guards on the team...

when monroe came along (who is a better tackle, but hes better than lots of tackles) albert was already settled in at guard… that doesnt mean he CANT play tackle… i think he would be fine at both and so did virginia

by Lucasjr5 on Nov 9, 2009 8:41 PM CST up reply actions

Fair enough.

Nevertheless, a better tackle started over him, and everybody muttered excuses for him.

I’m gettin’ tired of offering excuses, is what I’m sayin’. It’s always “tomorrow he’ll be more consistent,” rather than "Today, same as LAST Sunday, all was quiet to his QB’s blind side.

No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.

by hmills110 on Nov 9, 2009 8:44 PM CST up reply actions

Hali went

by Monroe all day yesterday making it look as though perhaps Albert is better suited to play guard than tackle. That is all that we are saying!

You set him up by blitzing him most of the time.

He can probably do some good in a zone, when you change things up, after the offense thinks it has you figured out. He could pick up the cheap James Harrison int, here and there, off DB blitzes that force the ball out early. But you definitely don’t want the offense thinking before the snap that Mays is going to play coverage. It’s getting the offense to worry more about him coming and trying to beat the OTHER defenders in coverage, when he becomes an extra hat in the pattern, rather than one you’re counting on, but shouldn’t be.

I dont mind the players so much, but I dont what it likely means for the team. Getz is okay, has potential, is pretty young. But his defense isn’t any better than Callaspo. But I imagine Dayton thinks Getz is awesome like Yuniesky. So I have this feeling that GMDM is gonna play Betancourt and Getz keeping the defense just as bad (while thinking its must better) while getting our second best bat out of the lineup. Fields is completely worthless though, especially on this team. Which is saying a lot.

Denver has killed pretty much everything i have ever thought about football.

That's the risk Pioli took.

Still not sure I liked it. But it might be easier for the Chiefs to come up with a blueprint for victory than it will be for the other guys. Chiefs are still in flux, and who knows what they’ll bring in the coming weeks? I don’t know if anybody noticed, but there’s more speed on the perimeter, 2 new faces up front on O-Line that are workin’ in.

That's one of the things about postgame interviews.

If you win after being sacked a lot, it’s like you won in spite of yourself or in spite of problems, when maybe it’s a style of play that DOES give up sacks is your best chance at beating the other guys. Too many coaches are afraid to take those risks, and will point to how well they’re taking the ball in their losses, while the Steelers are reigning champs.

No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.

by kcguy on Nov 9, 2009 9:19 PM CST up reply actions

That's their secret, though.

It gives a slower, savvy receiver like Ward plenty of time to make a double move. But with that Wallace kid and Santonio Holmes, they have some real speed. Fact is, he needs to use the extra second(s) for something decisive to appear down the field and he STRIKES. He has to eat dirt more often than some, but he makes those strikes, too.

I remember back in the Simms-Parcells days, when Parcells said something to the effect of “If you don’t throw 3 picks, you aren’t tryin’ hard enough!” High-risk, high-reward.

And Steelers are back on top against a BADLY demoralized Denver D.

No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.

its what is faster to unload… A truck full of dead babies or a truck full of bowling balls…

Of course its a trick question because no matter what the other person says you say the opposite… If they go with Dead Babies… You say Bowling balls, because I dont have to stop and fuck everyone… And if they say Bowling Balls, you say Dead Babies because you can’t unload Bowling Balls with a pitchfork
