The Kansas City Chiefs have released their first RB depth chart of the post-Larry Johnson era.  Here's how they line up:

1. Jamaal Charles

2. Dantrell Savage

3. Kolby Smith

I've said before that I expect Smith to be the closest thing there is to a replacement for LJ.  He's the only running back that has, on more than one occasion, run the ball more than 10 times in a game in a NFL game.

More depth chart changes after the jump (including RG).

Star-divide

Andy Alleman joins the first team

In what a few of us would call a welcome change, C/G Andy Alleman moves to the first team at right guard.  This spot was previously held by Mike Goff, who battled an injury last week.

Minor offensive line shuffling

Ikechuku Ndukwe is no longer listed as the backup left tackle.  That's taken by Wade Smith, who now backs up three positions on the line.

Chambers still behind Wade

Despite being inactive on Sunday, Bobby Wade remains the starting receiver opposite Dwayne Bowe.  Chambers is backing him up.

Quinten Lawrence was moved to the practice squad so Lance Long takes his spot behind Bowe.

Morgan is the No. 1 free safety, for now

DaJuan Morgan is listed as the No. 1 free safety but for the injured Jon McGraw

Maurice Leggett moves into the strong safety role behind Mike Brown.

Savage returning punts

Good for Mr. Savage.  He's now the No. 1 punt returner ahead of Wade.

How did Alleman look?

Obviously, the overall protection still isn’t good enough… but, who played well (and not so well) on the OL?

* "I doubt anyone will miss Connor Barth except UCrawford"
* the LB corps may become the biggest strength of the Chiefs in 2009
* The OL is NOT as bad as you think it is... give it time, and you'll see improvement this season

Alleman

was very mobile and sustained blocks especially in space.

that's good to hear...

I am guessing the ‘ol Goffer isn’t very mobile :)

He blew a couple of assigments...

But alot of the reason we scored so effectivly in the last 5 minsute is because he started to look alot better. He played way better then Goff though.

sounds promising

seems like the whole line has trouble with blown assignments… this must be a tricky blocking scheme!

How did Albert play? O’Callaghan?

not good

Pretty pathetic but its true, Those two played pretty bad, along with Waters. Rudy looked like the best linemen we had to me, IDK though, He didnt look that good either. 3 sacks to the JAX jags is pretty bad.

who were the sacks "credited" to?

surprising to hear anyone say that Rudy looked like the best lineman

Uh, The ZB scheme I think was responsible

Twice the Hali position LB blee right in while Albert blocked in side?
The TE position chipped and ran a route and let the QB try to avoid the sack.

We Will kick at least 4 Teams Asses in 09
And Succop will be the Key in two of them.

sounds familiar

I think that’s been happening all year.

the Tackles are blocking their guy, someone runs right around them and the TE can’t get it done

I mentioned it on another post

But can anyone think of another team that has their starting Tailback also doing kick coverage?
For some reason thats a resounding image I have of Sundays game was having Jamaal covering the opening kickoff.

I’m glad to see Alleman take the RG chart, maybe he can hold onto it the rest of the year

Kolby is likely only 3rd string until he’s had more practice time after coming back.. I think he’ll be productive.

I think it will untangle eventuall....

But behind closed doors, the entire team needs to air out the problems that they may or may not have with the coaching staff so this crap doesn’t happen again and we’ll release someone – I don’t know – good.

Charles and Savage playing a 2 back system...

with Kolby for short yardage situations. I don’t know if Haleys offense includes a power back. Now that he doesn’t have LJ he may move more toward speed backs the majority of the time.

You would think Charles would eat up all Savages carries, but we’ll have to see how that plays out.

Yeah like.....so?

Who cares what the Donkeys think? The shirts are sharp & old chiefs fan put a lot of effort into the creation of them. Just sayin……

by ttownmikey on Nov 9, 2009 7:43 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

actually, it's only "be cee" that's insulting the shirts

Donks fans are insulting the Chiefs, the stadium and the good folks of KC with “camarohead” slander.

Of course, I’ve heard people in StL call it the same thing…
