You blew it

                                 Bags_medium

To Mr. 2.7 (brilliant moniker by The_Truth),

You had a golden opportunity here in Kansas City and you blew it.

We, the fans, knew the circumstances behind your pick in the draft. We understood that Peterson overrode the choice of your future coach to draft you. We understood that it would create a difficult situation for you as a rookie because of that. We understood that being behind a very productive and very popular running back would make it all the more difficult for you to prove yourself. You failed to recognize that the coach was player kind of coach and if you just went about doing your job you would have likely won him over. Your chanced arrived when that productive and popular running back got injured and you were given the chance to be the starting running back yet you failed at the given opportunity. This would have given you a shot at winning over fans and the coach all in one swoop. Sure you had a great couple of years, that did not go unnoticed. We saw that and rallied around you. You became our All Pro running back and nearly every fan began to embrace you. Did you not take notice that you were becoming a favorite of many fans? The number of jerseys in the stands that had your name and number should have made that clear enough for you. Did you not recognize the admiration behind those seeking your autograph? Were you not aware that we sympathized with you when the next coach ran you into the ground? Did you not understand we also took into consideration that as the offensive line deteriorated you struggled to be the stud running back that we saw in you the previous seasons? Your supporters remained steadfast behind you Mr. 2.7.

You eroded before our very eyes. You went from a feared premier bruising back to becoming nothing more than a below average forgettable ball carrier. You failed to improve, not only in your game but in your attitude and maturity as well. In fact you regressed in some areas and proved beyond a shadow of doubt that your first coach was dead on in his assessment of you. Do you not see that the loss of all of those opportunities helped to fuel your animosity all the more until it spilled over into your personal life?

Instead of recognizing, taking advantage of the opportunities that was given to you and being a professional you turned to bite the hand that fed you. You turned on our team and in doing so, by proxy, you turned on us. It is obvious that you failed to see that in doing so you began to alienate those who supported you. You could not stop there though, you just had to go that extra step to go straight for the fans as well. What you failed to see is that once you donned the Arrowhead we fans would eagerly support you because you are a Chief, that is until we are proven wrong and damn if you didn't succeed at that. Your tenure here may have some high points but, Mr. 2.7, you had a golden opportunity here in Kansas City and you blew it. You have no one to blame but yourself.

Food for thought to take with you as you move on...grow up and carpe diem quam minimum credula postero.

Cordially,

A fan of the Chiefs and once a fan of you.

King Carl blew it

when LJ was holding out of his rookie contract and teams were throwing premium draft picks for him. Instead he caved, gave LJ his massive contract, and LJ was never the same since.

Past performance is a pretty good indicator of future results.

Which is why I don’t want Anquan Boldin on the Chiefs. This is a name that always comes up especially since he wants a new contract and him and Haley have a connection. He seems like a guy working hard for a paycheque and I’d be afraid once he gets it, his performance will take a hit. Then he went off on his coach this past weekend for the way he handled being a late scratch. I might be really wrong but I see similarities betwen Anquan and LJ.

I disagree

Boldin never held out. He said he wanted a new contract and that if he was franchised again, he would refuse to sign a new contract with AZ, that he would finish the remainder of his contract like a professional and play 100%.

And he did exactly that. Anquan isnt going out to clubs, spitting on and hitting women, hes not holding out and causing massive distractions to his team. As good as he has been in his time in the NFL, I can understand how frustrated he is over being franchised.

When guys get upset about their contract, that doesnt make them a bad person. But the people who pull out all stops in order to get a new contract or get released..are babies. Anquan sucked it up, went to training camp, and just simply stated that he would finish his contract, but would not resign with them. He handled it like a professional, and it was the MEDIA that blew up the whole “Boldin to holdout?” BS.

I'm refering to his comments over the weekend

He was a late cut, and when he returned to the locker room, his quote was something along the lines of “My coach didn’t have the balls to tell me to my face”…and he said that a couple times.

He’s called out both management and his coach this calander year….and I agree he has been by all intents and purposes and model citizen away from the stadium, unlike 2.7

It was not like that..

he didnt say anything about anybody not having the balls to say it. He said “Nobody was man enough to come and tell me the situation”. He means the same thing but he wasnt mouthing off saying his coach didnt have the balls.

Before training camp started, he said he was not going to address the contract issue for the season..and so far hes kept his word. Im not just saying hes a model citizen away from the stadium. I’m saying hes a professional. I wouldnt let a supervisor or manager walk all over me and/or disrespect me. If something bothers me, I’m going to say something. I might come off defensive the same way Boldin is. I’d be pissed if my job was cutting hours and instead of telling me ahead of time, I find out when I come to work that I’m not working that day. And if I felt I was being underpaid, I’d definately voice that with whoever is in charge of my payroll.

That doesnt make him a bad person. He has been respectful throughout his issues with his contract and his issues with Wisenhunt. I think the reason why people are on his case so much is because after making it clear he wanted a trade, he went off on Wisenhunt in the playoffs because he wasnt on the field. Thats emotion and disappointment because hes one of the better players on the team and he wants to win. I dont blame him for that. Warner and Wisenhunt had been yelling at each other all season long and that was barely talked about.

by Petey14 on Nov 11, 2009 2:11 AM CST up reply actions

Oops

not Wisenhunt. Haley. He went off on Haley. Ppl raised hell about that even though Haley had arguements with freakin everybody and nobody said much about it..but because Boldin was already on watch, it was blown out of proportion

Carl definitely mishandled that one.

On a team that’s disintegrating and still in recovery from top-dollar FA flops (or near-flops), RB was NOT the position to throw money at. Carl just believed in great RBs.

Pioli’s on the teetering point of that trend, bringing in a QB before fixing the O-Line, but it appears that Cassel will survive this year, and brought a LOT in terms of team culture/atmosphere that the Chiefs very much needed. Rather than draggin’ ass through the minimum requirements of an undemanding coach, Cassel ran his ass off and then came back for more after the DEMANDING coach’s day was done.

I can see, TampaRoyal, that you and I have been on the same page for years.

That being said, LJ did deserve some reward for time served, and as a mid/late-1st-rounder, he probably under-earned in relation to his production. If I’d been Carl, I’d’ve wanted to do SOMEthing for him, but you don’t “cave” to one guy and then punk half a dozen or more OTHER unsung-hero guys that are more necessary for sustaining a winning program. I think in this team sport, the franchises that are competitive are the ones that treat their rank-and-file well and don’t go overboard on their stars (and have stars with team mentality).

Not really any hard-and-fast rules for this, but things to look for are paying the QB decently well, but not in the top tier. You need value, and that means being more generous than you have to be in more contracts and more generous than you should be on fewer contracts than most of the rest of the teams.

No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.

You went from a feared premier bruising back to becoming nothing more than a below average forgettable ball carrier.

That would have been an improvement over what we saw from him this year. Dreadfully ineffective is more like it.

Just figured it out

2.7…..I just got the irony of it!!!

It is a new Era at Arrowhead. I do not yet know if it is one of greatness or one of ineptitude. I am excited to see which way it goes, and will support my team until the end, bitter or sweet!

yea I got it

I thought 2.7 was a great name…..and then an hour or so later, I realized he was number 27!

Great Post

Almost my sentiments exactly. It was sad to watch thie top level RB go from one of the top in the NFL, to a player who ran with No F’N Heart!

Don't know that LJ blew it. He's one injury away from being signed by a playoff contender.

And it’s hard to argue that the opportunities he’s had in KC the last few years have been “golden.” One of the worst O-Lines in the league for YEARS.

Hard to say that being cut is a win, but this is LJ’s one chance at being on a team that’s in contention for the playoffs. This is kind of a win-win for Johnson and the Chiefs. The Chiefs are going to be able to do some “churning” of the roster at RB, in preparation for 2010, without LJ.

No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.

by hmills110 on Nov 9, 2009 7:48 PM CST reply actions

The Falcons

are 5-3, losing to NE, DAL, and NO. I wouldnt say that makes them a “middle-tier” team.

And Gonzo has 434 yards and 4 TD’s in 8 games. If he keeps up to that pace, he’ll finish with 868 yards and 8 TD’s which is pretty consistant with his career averages.

I dont think LJ has a chance in hell to get into a better situation that what Gonzo has gotten into.

by Petey14 on Nov 9, 2009 8:42 PM CST up reply actions

My memory's pretty short, apparently.

Reason for my critical attitude likely flows from watching them play NE, Dallas and New Orleans, who made them look mediocre. But they also beat Miami and a struggling Carolina (who appear to be much better now than they were the first two weeks of the season). New Orleans and Dallas made me see ’em as middle-tier. I also conveniently forgot that I WATCHED those games because Atlanta was good enough that I wanted to see those matchups.

I mainly wanted to see how “for real” Atlanta was by watching them against strong teams, and to my eye, they fell significantly short of the mark. I see them as likely to make the playoffs as a top-half-of-the-league candidate, but in the lower part of the upper half, hence “middle tier.”

No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.

And the Falcons have a pretty decent shot at a wild card at the very least.

Right now I’d be ecstatic if we were doing as well.

Damn you LJ........

When I moved to Tucson I got laughed at by all the pseudo-Steeler fans and the flocks of Raiders fans just walking down the street cause I payed $90 to wear YOUR #27 jersey. I even wore it when we played Indy in the ‘06 Wild Card game, you know, when you were our only hope of winning the game, which I was in turn laughed at by the world’s biggest d-bag (the Indy fan I worked with, it was MISERABLE). Now I have to burn it like the piece of trash it is…..You cut me LJ, you cut me deep.

Again I looked throughout the earth and saw that the swiftest person does not always win the race, nor the strongest man the battle, and that wise men are often poor, and skillful men are not necessarily famous; but it is all by chance, by happening to be at the right place at the right time

Which I actually forgot to realized we shouldn’t have drafted you and our O-line was shit, so, damn you CARL……I feel better now.
