SNF Cowboys @ Eagles Open Thread

Who: Dallas Cowboys vs. Philadelphia Eagles

Where: Lincoln Financial Field

Tonight the Dallas Cowboys (5-2) will be visiting the division rivals the Philadelphia Eagles (5-2) and this one should be entertaining.

Ex Chiefs:

Dallas Cowboys: DT Junior Siavii

Philadelphia Eagles:DE  Jason Babin

                                      DB Dmitri Patterson

Tough loss today but I think I can say that I like the pick up of Chris Chambers and we should have a pretty solid WR group by the end of the year. Im not in a bad mood after this loss like I normally am. I dont know if its because this angel of a daughter I have been given or the fact that Im just used to losing but either way its nice to be in good spirits even after a loss. Looking forward to chatting with yall tonight!

Another game that feels really good to watch

because it’s not the Chiefs.

I was telling Joel earlier that I’ve forgotten what it feels like to root for a good team. Like the winning feeling I used to be able to recall from the early 2000s just isn’t there anymore.

I'm with you

I live near Cleveland and am a “notorious” Chiefs fan. It will make this season even more miserable. When they lost to them last time in 2006 I was miserable. I got to hear about that for a full year.

I still dont like Roy...

I dont hate him as much since the Jayhawks won it all, but I still dont like the guy. I also would kinda like to kick Dean Smith in the balls.

by averagegatsby on Nov 8, 2009 8:25 PM CST up reply actions

I really can't

fault Roy because he just went home but Dean learned all he knew from the Phog, if I remember right so anything North Carolina wins actually stems from Jayhawk roots! :)

by ttownmikey on Nov 8, 2009 8:29 PM CST up reply actions

What pissed me off...

was the way Dean Smith told Roy he needed to come home… Thus completely forsaking his home. I just thought it was a double standard, and I dont understand what makes North Carolina better than Kansas. I understand Roy going home, it was Dean turning his back on his home.

Did you see

where Manning attempted 40 passes in the 1st half & Dallas Clark had 14 receptions?

by ttownmikey on Nov 8, 2009 7:40 PM CST up reply actions

Hell of a half

and my wife gave me a hard time about it, too. One of our running jokes is that anytime Clark makes a catch during a game I try to say “I don’t care much for Clark” before she can say “but you don’t care much for Clark”. It’s because I’ve never cared much for Clark and have pointed that out a few too many times.

During the highlights on NBC

One of the guys (I believe it was Dungy, who would know better) said that Houston kept playing a base defense against a three WR set so that put Clark one-on-one with a LB so Manning just kept throwing it to him.

I was saddened today.

while thinking how disappointing it was to see the state of Missouri drifting away from their Chiefs and turning their backs on them just because they’re losing. Then, I realized that most of these people were never true fans to begin with; just casual fans looking for something to do on a Sunday afternoon.

I'm not nostalgic for the 90s.

How good was that team? Did we ever make it to the superbowl? What about Vermeil’s ‘the only defense you need is a great offense’ team…. how did they do in the playoffs? Yeah, dismantling and rebuilding a team (twice now, under two coaches) is a bit painful to watch, but it was/is necessary.

I think the Eagles are a good team

but I think he asks McNabb to carry the team like no other QB. I think he has to do more to win a game than any QB in football, including Manning and Brady. The Eagles have had good lines and good RBs but he throws so much I think it’s a detriment. I honestly believe that if Reid would run a more balance offense they would have won a SuperBowl by now.

by hmills110 on Nov 8, 2009 9:35 PM CST up reply actions

well drops in general...

I think he had one drop. I dunno, its just that when this team is this bad, you can’t kill your self with the small mental things. If this team had half the drops, we would have twice the points.

This space for rent.

by averagegatsby on Nov 8, 2009 9:36 PM CST up reply actions

I think Bowe had a bad game last week, in terms of drops.

But overall, much more consistent this season.

And judging by what I saw today, it looks like Cassel will have more confidence in throwing the ball his way any time he’s singled, whether he’s open or not. Open doesn’t apply to a player like D-Bowe the same as it does to others.

I think that Chambers and Long represent another up-tick in the overall WR talent. There’s speed and playmaking ability, there. We’ve had speed (Lawrence) and playmaking (Engram), but not a whole lotta both, this season.

No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.

by hmills110 on Nov 8, 2009 9:43 PM CST up reply actions

Bowe had some pretty impressive catches today

And, I have to eat my words on the Chambers signing this week.

by averagegatsby on Nov 8, 2009 9:47 PM CST up reply actions

Ive been saying this all year...

And have been killed… I was talking about how Peyton will throw to a covered receiver and complete it, then got killed for comparing Cassel to Peyton. But its absolutely true, that when a QB and a WR are comfortable with each other they are unstoppable.

This space for rent.

by averagegatsby on Nov 8, 2009 9:46 PM CST up reply actions

Yeah,

ours haven’t reached that point yet. The pass to Long would have been a TD if Cassel would have trusted that he was going to be open & thrown it earlier. That trust & anticipation factor goes a long way in the passing game because coverage can be so good.

by ttownmikey on Nov 8, 2009 9:50 PM CST up reply actions

Congrats on your resurrection. Let me know if you want to franchise it.

Wordlwide Church of Gatsby has a nice ring to it.

When the margin for error is very very slight, and there’s little confidence in the WR making the catch OR you show the confidence and the WR fails to make the play on the ball, it stops being something the QB looks to try.

Many’s the time I’ve said that Brett Favre would STILL just be seen as a loose cannon, as likely to throw picks as make great plays, if it weren’t for his being gifted with great WRs who win all ties for the ball.

No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.

by hmills110 on Nov 8, 2009 9:57 PM CST up reply actions

yeah...

Favre was pretty terrible for that year or two in between Antonio Freeman and Donald Driver

This space for rent.

by averagegatsby on Nov 8, 2009 10:00 PM CST up reply actions

And it doesn't happen after just a few games

Manning had a couple of rough seasons while he was developing that feel. But also when he throws to a guy that’s covered, it’s usually single coverage. A good throw can still beat that if you know the receiver.

by Big Chief on Nov 8, 2009 10:14 PM CST up reply actions

Manning is the master

of throwing the ball to where only the Receiver can get it… And his receivers know that, so they only look where they know the ball will be. The guy really is a magician.
