Chiefs Give up Big Play TD Near the End of the Half
Stats are here. The Chiefs are losing 14 to 6.
Frustrating is the way to describe the first half by the Kansas City Chiefs. The offense is having trouble doing anything consistently. The defense has given up some big plays (as it's prone to do) but is also looking good pressuring QB David Garrard. Ryan Succop has two field goals in windy conditions. A pretty blah game so far from KC.
And as I'm typing this, the Jaguars just scored on a 61-yard TD pass on a blown play by the Chiefs. (Sigh)
Here are some first half stats:
- QB Matt Cassel: 8/15, 74 yards
- QB David Garrard: 11/12, 167 yards, 1 TD
- RB Jamaal Charles: 2 rushes, 9 yards
- RB Kolby Smith: 4 rushes, 17 yards
- RB Maurice Jones-Drew: 13 rushes, 35 yards
- Jags total offense: 263 yards
- Chiefs total offense: 107 yards
- Jags first downs: 11
- Chiefs first downs: 4
The Chiefs are down by eight and get the ball first in the second half. This game is still very much in play.
Let's go Chiefs!

Wouldn't go that far
not much of an upgrade though
It is a new Era at Arrowhead. I do not yet know if it is one of greatness or one of ineptitude. I am excited to see which way it goes, and will support my team until the end, bitter or sweet!

just to get this straight....
that statement makes 0 sense… if you have a bad current head coach, why would you want to go back to another bad head coach? A lot of people say that but its pretty dumb.
56 yards into the wind
Almost taken back for a TD.
Colquitt hustled and made the tackle.
he’s FN injured

Kick was short, so it can be returned
it was into the wind so the Jags had a player back. He got into the clear and Colquitt ran him out and injured himself. There was an illegal block during the return. Half ended.

Hell, at least he’s catching the ball. He should’ve gone out of bounds at the end of the half, but Bradley, Bowe, and Ryan wouldn’t have even gotten to that decision point!

offensive playcalling is this teams biggest issue, we should focus on fixing that right now

We have to be able to establish SOMETHING. Then you can call plays. If you do nothing well, it doesn’t matter what you call.

Say what you want about third down draws, but as the AP analysis showed
Haley mixes up run and pass pretty well on the first down. That’s where you have to make something happen. That’s why it’s about execution.

Lance Long catches the ball, he goes out of bounds, we save the TO, get some more yards, Succop comes away with the FG and get a 2 for 1. To throw downfield
You have to give the receivers time to run their routes. The O-Line isn’t giving Cassel enough time for these types of plays to develop.
Our best bet is to run on first down and dink and dunk downfield and hope someone breaks one.

on a terribad call. What now?

I'm telling you

long is really making plays right now we need to get some slants going
FOUR F'S FIND UM FEEL UM FUGUM FORGET UM.
Again
Those plays take time to develop. Our line can’t protect Cassel long enough for those types of plays.
maybe they can get a game with Boise State
… not that a win over KC would help them in the BCS
Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisiton!
I think it would hurt their strength of schedule.
Penn State to Kansas City...Always a winning combination.
that was a bad 2nd down call...if your going to screen to charles
you need a blocker to spring him past the first guy…we had no one in position for that play.
You can literally script their offense at this point in the game.
It is pretty pathetic. Look, I’m all for calling players out to perform, but they better start discussing the coaching failures, because they can no longer hide it. Jacksonville is not a very good team, so whatever.

dude seriously
can we at least attempt to get the ball to bowe…throw it up there and let him get up and get it….stupid draw plays and short passes to long and wade are gettin greally old
Done posting until after the game
You all have fun, but I cant do it no more…Coaching and execution is killing me
Predictions for 2009:
LJ breaks Chiefs all time rushing record at home
Bowe's numbers regress due to lack of decent QB play.
The D gets better in the second half but still is plagued by big plays
Cassel looks more like the guy Pioli almost cut in the '08 preseason instead of the franchise QB he hoped he would be when he traded him for
Chiefs 6-10
I suppose
I suppose it would tolerable if you were playing.
See ya on Twitter, LJ
fans aren't allowed to be angry?
this is why cities like kc settle for bad teams

Wondering the same thing
htf does Haley feel more comfortable giving LJ the rock at 2.7 ypc?
"The first step to penetration... must not be lateral"
-Confucius, in contrary to Glenn Dorsey lining up in the 2-tech
The same guy
that was supposed to be guarding Miles Austin in the Dallas game.
Dude I cant describe my emoptions right now...
Im so mad at Pioli and Haley for cutting Pollard
OHANA!
I'm only mad because we did it to make room for Brown
Pollard sucked just as much in coverage as Brown, we seem to be forgetting how many times he whiffed on similar plays.
Bask in the glory that is Kwame Harris. Poor Alex...
You mean Pollard right?
The guy that fixed the Texans D and is helping them hold Indy to 13 points.
OHANA!
Apparently

nah, they find a way to get released so they can play for Houston
… or get traded to Carolina

Can we start a cut Brown petiton..

Sure can.
"The first step to penetration... must not be lateral"
-Confucius, in contrary to Glenn Dorsey lining up in the 2-tech
which will go as far as a "don't play LJ petition"
… as far as Haley’s permanant circular file

Sure was.

Wow, talk about a holding call that was missed against Mays

Yeah...it's done.
Unless we do one of those “all of a sudden it’s the 4th quarter, the game is out of reach, and NOW we can move the ball” things like we usually do. Oh well…I guess there’s always next week.
Penn State to Kansas City...Always a winning combination.
We're regressing

This team is playing so bad right now
I’m trying to fathom what they’ve actually done to prepare for a game plan for this.
Braccae illae virides cum subucula rosea et tunica Caledonia-quam elenganter concinnatur!
Shouldn't have HAD to prepare a gameplan
Pop in film from Titas vs Jags last week, and there’s the plan. WTF is going on here?

Talent and Players can be corrected
Hiding your head in the sand about bad management and coaching mistakes is another story. I’ll support the team, but part of that support is calling a “spade a spade.”

Did anyone think perdergast was going to solve anything?? HELLO, he was fired for being one of the worst D coordinators for one of the worst defenses in the league. It’s not a coincidence that AZ’s defense is stout this year with the same personel
True.

Perhaps not clean house
BUT CALL IT WHAT IT IS. They are outsmarted every game. Perfect execution of the wrong play at the wrong time equals failure. It is what it is.

get out his crayons and make signs for the locker room
I gotta wonder now if LJ gets a chance to play again
Our RB by committee has looked better than LJ
"A word to the wise isn't necessary, it is the stupid ones who need all the advice." ---Bill Cosby
This team just needs to be ripped apart, gutted.
There are only a handful of decent (not great) players out of the 53 on the roster. We better be highly active in free agency and draft Eric Berry with our 1st round pick.
too late, dude ... Pioli has ALREADY gutted the team
1/2 on the roster right now were NOT with team before season started … Herm had a GOOD young crew, just beginning to know each other and grow AS A TEAM … but Pioli has trashed it, and Haley has tossed the remains off a bridge
Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisiton!
I'm betting that will happen
even if we pull this game out and win out for the rest of the season.

With our saftey play today
It’s becoming a bigger and bigger need almost every play to get Eric
swish
OK Cassel is a smart QB but...
he is way too careful with the ball…he is so afraid to throw a td that he won’t make any throws unless the guy is wide open….case in the Long throw in the end zone….he should have thrown it earlier but he wanted to hold it for an extra second to make sure he was open
He needs to will us one first down
and then air it out down field

Appreciate the thought though.
I guess it is too risky for me to be on AP at work. I have had two close calls today that may get me in some heat with the Information Security Officer.
Would have been worth it if the Chiefs were at least looking decent. Ah well.

What's with the no huddle stuff?
If you don’t make first downs running no huddle at the start of the game just means you give the other team more chances to score. I don’t understand the desire for no huddle early.
