Chiefs RB Kolby Smith Travels with the Team to Jacksonville
Kansas City Chiefs running back Kolby Smith has been inactive for the first six weeks of the season, coming off an knee injury from '08.
Today is the deadline for the Chiefs to move Smith from the PUP list to the active roster or else they'll lose him to Injured Reserve for the rest of the season.
Well according to Smith's Twitter account, he made the trip with the team and will presumably be active for tomorrow's contest.
That would mean Chiefs running backs would be:
- #1 Jamaal Charles
- #2 Dantrell Savage
- #3 Kolby Smith
As Joel noted this morning, if Smith is indeed put on the active roster, the Chiefs will have to release a player to get to 53.

Not enough depth for that kind of loss

it would make the most sense
we have duplicated and probably exceeded what he can do for us with Wade and Long
A man who says he can, and a man who says he can't are both right. Which one are you?

Goff
We don’t have tons of interior lineman who are worth anything…can’t really cut Goff

Kolby may not be the answer
but im chomping at the bit to see what we have in him and Charles! I feel if they worked in a good two back package we could see one of the two with over 100 yards.

Yeah
Send Kolby up the middle to set up Charles outside runs…..
Maybe Charles could be good at running the wildcat on a play.

I'm happier with our RB situation now then I've been all year.
I like LJ, I really do. But he is at best overrated. He was a great RB when he ran behind one of the best o-line’s in football. He can’t accelerate. Can’t make people miss. What he can do, is run right into the back of Goff.
Consistency is only a value if you are not a screw up.

Running Backs should always be able to adapt during a play.
Remember how Dante Hall would never run his seams if they were not available….he went to the holes. LJ runs the plays like he has to run exactly where it says no matter what…probably just to make Haley look bad.
Charles can adapt and make moves to go outside or back inside if need be.

It looked like LJ had sand bags for pads on.

I bet we dont run 20 times in this game.
Maybe if you include Cassel scrambles. I think Haley is going to keep our TEs in all day long and let Cassel try to work the ball for most of the game. Then cut Charles loose on some of those shotgun draw plays. I dont think we could play smash mouth with Jax anyway even if we wanted.

Im not sure we are "good" with these running backs...
but we definitely aren’t worse.

I want to see Kolby play...
put him as the #2 back. Not behind savage.

They are not going to throw him into the fire his first game back...
I bet he gets 3-5 carries Max.

Like most of you I am eager to see how Kolby does. However lets try not to expect to much as he hasn’t played in a year. Honestly it will probably be a month before he is back to true form.

if Kolby is healthy and in shape
we will be fine. This kid has game and can be a feature back. Pobably gonna take a few games for him to get back up to speed but I like this guy.

why does everyone here love Kolby Smith so much
I remember one game where he got +100 yards against Oakland and that’s about it. Am I missing something here, has he done anything really that Spectacular?

Well thats the only oppurtunity he ever got....
He had the rock that whole game, Other games when LJ was out, Jamal got the rock and Kolby spelled him. I would just recomend actually watching the games for the best info lol;’)

Neither one of them have done nothing to deserve this.
I doubt either one of them finish the season.

Lance Alworth had his own issues
But I see your point
We Will kick at least 4 Teams Asses in 09
And Succop will be the Key in two of them.

What a great idea to bench the starting rb for some stiffs.
This will not end well.
by kcbh on Nov 8, 2009 1:19 AM CST reply actions 0 recs
Bench Him?
They suspended him. Also, Id say LJ was “Stiffer” then either of these two. Hints the 2.7 yards per carry, While Charles is averaging 5.

Charles ran around the defense, LJ ran into it.
Let’s see how he does tomorrow.
