That’s why –in the middle of the bye week, and complying with Haley’s assertion that "Winners assemble as a team and find ways to win"– I came up with a humble proposal to help Haley (and the Chiefs) steer correctly the wheel drive of their season. The name that popped up in my head was: Mike Martz.

well

as long as hes not in total control i would totally take martz. have him be the o cordinator. i mean pass first offense. not afraid to take chances??? sounds like out HC. martz is way undre rated as an OC without total control. make sure the HC can override him and your set.

Gretz talks about Martz's successes in St. Louis

But I compare that to Al Saunders success with the Chiefs. Both of those guys have been horrible since leaving those respective teams. Why?

The common component with Martz’s success in St. Louis and Saunders success with KC is Dick Vermeil. I think its clear Vermeil had a lot more to do with the Greatest Show on Turf and the Trent Green era Chiefs offense than the respective offensive coordinators did.

He may not have been calling every play, but it can’t be a coincidence.

I don't think it is by Mr. Gretz..

It seems to be written by someone named Enrique Siu.

Yeah, that surprised me

I’ve never seen anyone else ever write on his site before.

Hmm...

I love Bob Gretz and his contributions to the Chiefs and the fans, but this really doesn’t make sense on many levels.

Most notably, Martz and Saunders both run an Air Coryell offense which is very different from the Erhardt-Perkins system that Haley runs. Not going to happen…

Gretz is crazy to suggest this.

Gretz uses two situations as his rationale of Haley’s decision making. The first with Cassell’s decision making before halftime and the second not to go for two at the end of the Dallas game.

While the first point definately relates back to coaching up the players the second is ridiculous. Neither have anything to do with why you would bring in Mike Martz. Plus Haley makes the safe call to go for the extra point instead of two at the end of the Dallas game, we then win the coin toss and can’t move the ball. It’s hard to see how this was a bad decision by Haley — if they go for two and don’t get it (like Herm did a couple years ago) he is crucified for not taking the game into OT.

Gretz is grasping at straws to explain our 1-6 start.

The premise that firing Gailey caused us to be 1-6 is absolutely absurd

That’s it? If we had simply kept Gailey we’d be 7-0?? No.

No thanks to Martz. I do think Haley should get an OC AFTER the season. We don’t need more disruption now, let’s just play out the year and try out players.

Air Cassel - approved for takeoff

If by mike martz he means

ANY OC…. then fine…. I think it’s pretty clear haley needs some help from an OC… I wonder if there are any good one’s available…. I think that chan gailey guy might be available….???

Mike Martz would ge perfect...

..when they are not retained next year(contract runs out, Shanny is in) Wade Phillips will be a good DC and Wade Wilson OC for KC. Watch for long time Pat Brian Daboll as QB, yeah he sux as Cleveland OC but who wouldn’t? but…
