Looking Like Chiefs S Jon McGraw Will Be Out Against the Jaguars
With each passing day, the chances of Kansas City Chiefs S Jon McGraw playing on Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars appear to dwindle.
McGraw missed practice again today, which makes it two consecutive weeks missed. He's suffering from what the organization calls a strain in his leg.
Normally, this wouldn't be a huge deal, but the Chiefs other true free safety, Jarrad Page, was placed on injured reserve on Wednesday, ending his season.
CB Mike Richardson also returned to practice today after being out for two days with an illness.
With Page out, McGraw's injury is causing a bit of a domino effect:
- SS DaJuan Morgan moves to the starting role at FS
- Who is backing up Mike Brown at SS now?
- CB Maurice Leggett has been seeing time at FS behind Morgan
- CB Travis Daniels was signed and is providing depth at CB (possibly because Leggett is seeing extra time at FS)
Since McGraw hasn't practiced in two weeks, I'd imagine ruling him out for Sunday is just a formality at this point. The Chiefs will release their injury report today and II think he'll be listed as doubtful (25% chance of playing) or out.

Backups? Chiefs don't need no stinkin' backups.
Except for TE. We have 11 backup TE’s.

Hey why don't they trot DJ out there at saftey? Let him do what he does best, roam.
Leave the gun. Take the cannoli.
All joking aside
They safetly should be in the box anyways stopping MJD. We stop him, I like our chances.

I was serious about DJ....
….He has good speed and I think he can cover pretty well. It would certainly be an interesting project but I think in certain situations it would be awesome. He would probably have to play SS and move Brown to FS. Not to mention it would give offensive corrdinators fits.
Leave the gun. Take the cannoli.
I was thinking the same thing yesterday.
He might be a better fill in them some of these other guys.

He could play the Rodney Harrison role..... though I'm not sure DJ has the mean streak that Rodney payed with.

I don't see what the big deal is
none of our Safety’s have done jack this year. McGraw is a lostt on ST but really, Morgan can’t do any worse. Might as well throw him int here. Maybe he is one of these guys who doesn’t look good in practice but shows up on game day.

Oh, I dunno...
I like McGraw. He shows good instincts and has laid more than one big hit on guys. Plus, out of all the safties we have, I’ve noticed that he tends to consistently do what defenders are supposed to: tackle the guy with the freaking ball. But, this might just be me rooting for the blue collar guy that’s getting a chance to make a name for himself as a Chief. Gotta show love to guys like that.

I like McGraw too
And it was nice to see him get a shot as a starter last week but we still got creamed. Might as well see what Morgan can do…hell it isn’t like we are going to the Super Bowl.

Agreed.....
If we are going to lose then we need to get some of these “on the fence” players in the game and find out if they are going to fit into the “Right 53”. If they play unsatisfactory then I say look for thier replacement via draft and free agency in the offseason.
Leave the gun. Take the cannoli.
True that.

Case in point:
McGraw:
2 games started, played in 7. 13 total tackles. In last two weeks starting: 5 tackles against WAS, 4 against SD. Also logged a sack against WAS.
Page:
5 games started. 19 total tackles.

haley quote
HALEY: "I don’t have fear with him playing. I think when DaJuan was in there in the preseason he’s done a pretty good job. He had an interception in the St. Louis game. He has a nose for the football. He had a good week of practice along with the other guys. I wouldn’t say that I have any fear with him being back there. I think he’s ready to go. He’s got good speed, good ball skills, he’s a good tackler and I think he understands what we’re trying to do. Again, I think he’s much like a couple of the other guys who are getting a real opportunity this week."

Same interview..
Haley says the Alleman would start if Goff can’t go.

because he wasn't one of The Right 53 ...
or, as kray noted: maybe he refused to sing “The Good Ship Lollipop” in practice
