Around SBN: Kentucky Football: Tee Martin Reportedly Leaving for USC

Haley, asked about the signs for the first time on Thursday, said it was a coincidence the signs were placed shortly after Johnson was suspended because of his now-infamous tweets. The signs, Haley said, have been planned for some time.

"I have a coach assigned to signage and posters and he’s just been slow," Haley said. "I won’t say who it is."

LOL

Wonder who the “coach” is.

Before you judge a man, walk a mile in his shoes; after that, who cares?! He's a mile away and you've got his shoes!

Haley assigned Coach Haley to be in charge or signage

A man who says he can, and a man who says he can't are both right. Which one are you?

very nice

It's a good thing Pioli and Haley aren't running AP or a lot of you guys would of been traded or cut for cast offs from the Pats Pulpit.

maybe its Brodie

I don't buy that there was another coach.

There is no way Haley trusts anybody else with something this important. He decide to take over the signage duties for the remainder of the year to ensure they were hung to his liking.

I know a lot of you guys are not fans

and I will be the first to admit that he has made some mistakes, but I really freaking love that guy.

Yeah

it is pretty funny because about half the time I think he is just totally jerking the media’s chain. Cracks me up.

Just like the media does when they tried to pass the Washington win as “making progress”. Those two go back and forth!

I want to like him too

I just too often see an unprepared team on gameday, that doesn’t make adjustments and is trying to fit a square peg in a round hole.

The sign coach

was recently cut by New England for f-ing up their signs. Pioli/Haley felt they could get him conditioned and buy into “their” way and get the signs up. Unfortunately, he spent all of his time tweeting about his paycheck and working for a golf guy.

After being benched, he’s onboard now.

I remember Dawson to Taylor, Kenney to Carson, and Blackledge catching the snap in his facemask. Seen it all...

Nice

“I have a coach assigned to signage and posters and he’s just been slow,” Haley said. “I won’t say who it is.”

Excellent leadership, coach…throwing an anonymous subordinate under the bus. Funny how he couldn’t just say “I had those signs put up”.

Total bush league.

Predictions for 2009

1. Todd Haley's going to struggle with managing his staff in his rookie year as head coach.
6. The Chiefs will go 7-9 in 2009, good for 2nd in the AFC West. Revision: We go 5-11 and finish behind Oakland.
7. Ryan Succop will not perform better in 2009 than Connor Barth did in 2008.
8. The Chiefs will have a bottom 10 defense this year.
9. RB will be a problem area this season on offense.

sarcasm

he was totally messing with the media there. If you watch the video he is grinning ear to ear when he said it.

he's just a little disgruntle at the moment

so the humor was lost to him :p he’ll come around. my guess is no later then the start of next season.

UCrawford will eventually calm down and realize that Haley isn't a bad coach.

I thought the same thing when I read the quote

But watching the press conference you see he is smiling when he says it and is just joking with the media. You have to look at quotes in context. Another overreaction by Conner Barth…err UCrawford.

by Nick Britt on Nov 5, 2009 8:32 PM CST up reply actions

All right.

Let’s suppose that’s true: Haley was just jacking with the media.

Do you think that’s a good idea? I don’t.

The people in the media – flawed as they are – are the greatest contributor to the public perception of an NFL franchise. Ticket and merchanidse sales, TV ratings – in other words, the money the franchise takes in – are all based on that perception. So if you’re running a franchise, you screw around with media at your own peril – because if you do it often enough or long enough, they will turn on you.

And As A Great Many Politicians Have Discovered

Once the press turns on you the slippery slope to the end of your career gets very, very steep.

Not to mention, if you’re expending energy on screwing with the press that’s less energy you’re devoting to your job…which is a problem for a guy with three fulltime jobs.

The press enjoys a good joke and a byline.

I think if done properly Haley can turn the media for him.
If he is not overtly attacking and lets the media have some talking points,
even if he is not giving the media any meat. It will work.
AP is not mass media, we know more than the average fan cause we discuss it ad-nauseam here, Most fans don’t and will make a superficial decision.
What do you say?

If I thought it was being done "properly"

I wouldn’t have said what I said.

Everybody in the press room understands that a HC doesn’t always tell the truth. Despite Herm Edwards’ assertions to the contrary, he can’t.

But that doesn’t mean he should lecture the media on what they should or shouldn’t report upon – when his own organization is giving them the information! The correct answer to the question was, “I don’t have anything to say on that subject – other than to say that I had the sign posted for the players to read. What anybody else thinks about it is not my concern. Next question.”

Upthread, someone said that Haley wasn’t hired to be a PR guy, but instead to be a football coach. But NFL coaches have no choice but to deal with the media, and handle them properly.

Actually...

He didnt throw him under the bus at all…The whole “I won’t say who it is” = not throwing him under the bus…

The cynicism is a little early in his career…

Maybe another coach hangs them up....

But Haley types them out. No way a guy like Haley, who is a total control freak, lets some other coach determine what the players will read on the walls. It makes no sense. He is just trying to dodge the media circus that would be around him knowing he is taking jabs at LJ.

Come on Haley…..Man Up!!!

So if you were in charge at your workplace and wanted to put up a sign.

that only your employees would see. where at Arrowhead would that be?

The Showers? Small groups in the Showers would just get LJ all riled up again :)

I have to go along with 65TossPower here

because I agree: if it had gone up before the season began, it would have been perceived very differently. Even I might have thought it was OK… although maybe just a touch paranoid. But IMO, you just can’t separate it from the current context.

By the way, 65… you were a great play in your day! :-)
