You can't blame the OL for poor results

It seems too easy to point to the OL for a lot of our offensive woes...but not so fast my friend as Lee Corso would say. The team with the lowest ranked O-line is Green Bay.  They are averaging 4.3 yards per rush with 189 att for 798 yards. The Chiefs are 3.5 yards per rush with 204 att for 709 yards. Passing Green Bay is 1811 yards with 149 comp for 228 att with 31 sacks.  The Chiefs are 1052 yards with 120 comp for 212 att with 27 sacks.

you have to look for more reasons for the blame than the OL

Star-divide

L J is not the kind of back to change direction and find the holes..he has lost a step and he tends to pick a direction and if its not open he can't  turn nothing into something.  Because we can't run Cassel is looking at too many second  and or third and long downs. If we only increased our yards rushing to a respectable 4.0 Cassel would be as good as he was last year and we could be a .500 team. I can't even blame L J for all our rushing woes.  The fact that he is asked to do something that is beyond what he is capable of doing....he is called on to repeat this over and over again.  It is a fool who would do the same thing over and over again and expect different results.

Chan at least changed the offense when the player didn't fit the style we were running.  I think Haley needs to accept the fact that he doesn't have the players to fit what he would like to do...changing and or adding different players every week will only get you so far.  The second half will show us how good the coaching really is.  I hope we see results because I would hate to start over again.

So do I

and some of the decision making

Ha you have to blame the online

As we have seen in the past your RB is only as good as your O line, Lj hasnt lost a step, Lj hasnt stopped running hard. He lost the best line in the NFL. He may have looked like alot better runner back in 05 but thats because there were holes.

Although that .8 diffrence dosent sound like alot it is HUGE, thats 163 more yards on the season, I would love for the chiefs to avg anything over 4.

Sacks dont just determine the line, look at NE last year they won 11 games with a line that gave up the most sacks

And lastly the Green bay packers are an AVG team, nothing more nothing less

you're right, LJ hasn't lost a step

… he’s lost 2 or 3 at least … not to mention his mind

his mind

was never there

*nodding*

What I disagreed with was

Chan at least changed the offense when the player didn’t fit the style we were running.

LJ didn’t really fit last year’s offense. KC needed quick and had lumbering. Easy to say a RB sucks, because his YPC is low, but to say he’s lost a step is to miss the point of what he has to work with this season, and what he’s always brought to the table, pretty much since entering the league. Still the same ’back, and a bit better-rounded than he was as recently as last year.

No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.

Just because Green Bay is an average team

and has a bad line does not mean that the Chiefs should at least be average too.

Green Bay has a ton more talent than the Chiefs. Green Bay was one game away from the Super Bowl two years ago and the last time the Chiefs were 1 game away from the Super Bowl I was in Middle School.

Green Bay has enough talent to be mediocre with a terrible line. The Chiefs don’t. You are seeing the results. Green Bay can’t compete with more elite teams, despite their talent, because of their offensive line.

The Chiefs can’t compete with anyone because of their lack of talent and their offensive line.

you can definitely blame the OLINE!

Its the o-line’s fault.. SO i just blamed em…
Everything is on the O-line.. Everything.. If it were better we could run the ball more and keep the d off the field. If it were better we could come back or have big plays.. This is not right at all..

OL is only a part of the problem

I still believe you have to lay some of the blame on the coaching

Check Savage and Charles Yards per carry average

Both are over 5 yards a pop not bad I am excited to see them carry the load. It might even make Cassel look somewhat better this weak to have a RUN game support him. I don’t think our problem is mostly O-Line I think so far it has been that LJ is SLOW to the whole and can not cut back he also cannot stiff arm with his right arm. The other biggest problem is even when Cassel has had time he has been EXTREMLY inacurate HORRIBLE actually worse than Grbac, Bono, Croyle, or Huard witch NONE of them are very good.

trent green

seemed to do pretty good in kansas city, cassel outperforming him in his first year

Bet he averages more than 2.7

My guess as a starter he will average 4.3 – 4.8 behind our O-Line

no way

rushing 2 or 3 times a game is alot diffrent than 15-20

Now that I think about it

The line is rather offensive

by Hank44 on Nov 5, 2009 3:56 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

we will see this week

I hope Charles and Savage have a good game. A good running game would help the passing game and defense big time. When you have a bad line you can cover up a lot of inadaquacies with a cutback back something LJ is not.

the title should read:

you can’t ONLY blame the OL for poor results

yes, there are other factors… but blocking execution is probably still at the top of the list

* "I doubt anyone will miss Connor Barth except UCrawford"
* the LB corps may become the biggest strength of the Chiefs in 2009
* The OL is NOT as bad as you think it is... give it time, and you'll see improvement this season

Last Season

Under Haley, Tim Hightower averaged only 2.8yrds per carry with 143 carries…..But this year he is only like 3.3yrds per carry.

James had like 3.8yrds per carry….under Haley.

Haley is not a RB guy. He never claimed to be. His strengths is the air attack. He knows the passing game inside and out. He has no clue how to get a RB going.

With that said…..Haley was successful with the air attack at Arizona because Warner had some good protection.

Its the OLINES fault more than Haley..but they are both to blame….as well as LJ.

no

i replace your logic with my own and the o line is still the problem.

You are missing the point

The finger needs to be pointed at the coaching and play calling…by being so predictable and vanilla we are giving opposing defenses an easy three and out. They stop a run up the middle on first down then pressure Cassel on second and third down. Don’t worry about anything long ….safety’s can play up they don’t respect anything deep. Have we ever passed for more than ten yards on first down?

by gswak on Nov 6, 2009 4:54 AM CST reply actions   0 recs

you're right, play calling sucks ...

but our WR’s can’t get 10 yds downfield in the limited time it takes for Cassel to get nailed in the backfield … so, what do you want? Cassel throwing 40 yds downfield to an empty spot, or Cassel throwing 40 yds downfield to a Safety who gets a cheap INT?

yeah, I blame the play-calling AND the O-Line AND the RBs (esp LJ) AND the WRs AND the GM/HC …
