Changing Haley
How many players feel like LJ. Do other players feel like LJ about their coach. Of course they do. The question than becomes, how are players performances effected by their feelings towards their coach. Some of our young players have truly regressed under coach 22. Our coach has created a negative atmosphere with his constant confrontational attitude. I wanted our coach because I thought a fiery coach would be great. But he is not a fiery coach, in the mode of Bill Cowher, he is a confrontational coach in the mode of PJ Carlesimo. Now I don’t believe any of the chiefs will choke coach 22. However the environment of dislike will make players feel uninspired to perform. Most do remember that the NY Giants was an underachieving talented team that miss the playoffs under another want to be Parcells coach. Only after a star running back retired and most players blowing him off did coach Coughlin change and became more relaxed in his demeanor did the Giants respond with a superbowl win. Now of course they are a talented bunch, and we are not. Todd Haley biggest problem is he is not Bill Parcell. So it might be a good ideal to stop trying be like him. Did you read the Mike Lombardi interview, it was dripping with our coach is the problem. He needs to mature. He will never be respected by players that know he has never felt a blindside blitz or given up a winning touchdown pass, or even missed the game winning field goal. And it not just because he comes from a golf background, its because he come from a golf background and thinks he know it all and is trying to be someone else. From the Parcell/Belichick tree only the people who don’t try to be them has success. Sean Payton, Josh McDaniels and GM Thomas Dimitroff. Compare that to the two coaches who do try to act like Parcells/Belichick, Haley and Mangini. And lets not forget that Belichick was ran out of Cleveland because of his approach. Think God for second chances and some time to reflect. Just like any other chiefs fan I support whomever is the coach. But this guy needs to tone it down a couple of notches.
Larry Johnson was playing on his last chiefs team unless he ran for over 1,400 yards and was on good behavior, we all knew this. He won’t and he hasn’t. So that makes him the best player to send a message to coach 22 that maybe the players are getting a little fed up with him. Fear do not make players better, coaching do. Fear is a negative form. But somehow people actually think fear can bring positive results And sometimes you can for a brief period.. Remember how successful coach Johnson was in Dallas. He had a talented bunch, but he thought fear was the motivating force in Dallas, not coaching and his really talented team. He set up shop in Miami and was so unsuccessful using fear most folks don’t remember that he coached the Dolphins. I think its safe to say coach Haley is no coach Johnson. It is hard to built anything long term based on fear and treating people harshly. What better player to say what is probably on the minds of some of the players. In a hope that their coach get a clue. Hopefully he took the bye week to reflect on being himself and understanding his players may not be responding to his methods.

Whew, glad to know I can now blame my Chief when the next house burns down
just because he called for an interior attack with a less than willing crew. I wish all of life’s answers were this easy!
Winning begins with Attitude - Haley and Pioli will be winners in KC!
I'll forever be a Chiefs fan! Only God himself could take that away from me, but when I get to my great reward, I'll rejoin two bigger fans, my Mom and Dad.

Some good points but the players are being paid large amounts of money to play. If Haley is being so terrible there are people in the front office that will be telling him so.

We already tried that
Herm let the players set the pace, controlled their own workouts, and what did we get a bunch of over weight players that were to tired to play in the fourth quarter. Any place you go all worker want their bosses to be a nice person, to give breaks and to not get upset over a mistake, the Chiefs tried it and it didn’t work.
In the Navy I’ve had laid back officers and I’ve had some real dicks, but the best ones were the ones that did not accept a lack of effort, they knew when to back off and when to lay into someone. My best CO was a little guy 5 foot nothing, and man could he chew ass, at the end of it you apologized to him not for the mistake but for doing something so stupid that it had to come to his attention. He had a policy about complaints, “Don’t bring me problems unless you can come up with a solution”. Meaning don’t just bitch about it do something about it, and I think that’s what the Chiefs are trying to do now.
These are grown men playing a game, and getting very well paid for it. If they can not handle being treated a little rough because of their play then maybe they should either do better, or just retire and get away from all the bullies. I can be one hell of an Asshole at work, and my workers know it, but they have also come to know that I’m not that way just because I want to, they have to force me into that mode. If they don’t want their shit jumped, then they know to do their job at my expectations and we all get along fine. Yes they can go get another job and cook for anyone, but if they want to be a part of my place then they have to work at a higher standard. I will not put out bad food, have bad service or a staff that thinks they are going to run things their way. I’m the boss, and they asked me for the job, if they want it then they know what they have to do to keep it. And I don’t see any difference coming from the Chiefs.

Boo Hoo Hoo
If a player doesn’t want Haley to yell at him then don’t be lazy, don’t miss tackles, don’t drop passes, don’t take plays off, etc. If a player is pissed at Haley then it’s probably because they were screwing up and he called them on it instead of just laughing about it or shaking his head like Herm used to. It’s funny how guys like Kurt Warner and Larry Fitzgerald who work hand and make good decisions on the field only have good things to say about the guy.
It's a good thing Pioli and Haley aren't running AP or a lot of you guys would of been traded or cut for cast offs from the Pats Pulpit.

except that Warner was quoted as saying he didn't like it when Haley was yelling AT HIM
… gee, imagine that!!!
it’s not “war” and it’s not “boot camp” – it’s FOOTBALL and Haley isn’t The Little Dictator (except maybe in his own mind) … he’s the Head COACH … shall we look up the definition, people, or do we all know what the word means already? I hope we do … sadly, apparantly, COACH Haley doesn’t seem to remember himself what it means …

Where was Warner quoted as saying that
he ’didn’t like it when Haley was yelling at HIM?"
The fact is they had a great relationship.
They texted each other constantly. His wife used to joke about how much time those two spent together during ‘off hours.’
Take a look at the problems with the offense in Arizona. No doubt part of that is the absence of Haley.

Catch 22??
If this team was filled with talent (thanks Herm), then Haley wouldn’t have to be so stern. There are too many mistakes being made on the field. The lack of talent (Mike Goff – are you freaking kidding me?) leads to mistakes in itself. When the talent arrives (see:this coming off-season where they will have a complete off-season to work with), you will see Haley chill out a bit…mostly because players will be where they need to be, and more plays will be made.
If everyone worked as hard as me, I would be out of a job.

Seems to be chillen more on the sidelines under the cameras already
Haley is learning a ton right now.
And when we get the right type of guys in the majority on this team….
The right type includes players that run the schemes well like ZB and Man coverage.
Hit the right gap on O and D.
I would love to here an off the record type conversation between Pioli and Haley about this team.

Red, stop with the Herm's At Fault For Everything Blame Game already ... Herm as ONE year to bring in his players, and guess what?!?
MOST of those guys from his LAST draft are still on the team!!! so guess what … you’re WRONG! blame Carl if you want … but get off Edwards, because the man was a GOOD judge of talent …
Pioli, on the other hand, brings in Goff … Haley plays Goff and 2.7 Johnson all the time … and you call THAT talent? get off it, Red … you’re wrong

Not sure how anyone could defend Herm Edwards around here
It is almost as bad as defending Larry Johnson. The only reason it isn’t worse is because he seems to be a good guy.
I have tried to read your posts and come to some common agreement, but I just cannot find it. Maybe we are just cut from a different cloth, see things differently.
Oh and also, you missed the point of the entire post, because you stopped at the first parentheses I think. And as for what’s in the parentheses, I believe I have stated Herm’s name once before in another post, but not every post etc.
If everyone worked as hard as me, I would be out of a job.

“From the Parcell(s)/Belichick tree only the people who don’t try to be them ha(ve) success.”
-There may be something to that, vajazz…
“Sean Payton, Josh McDaniels and GM Thomas Dimitroff. Compare that to the two coaches who do try to act like Parcells/Belichick, Haley and Mangini. And lets not forget that Belichick was ran out of Cleveland because of his approach. Th(a)nk God for second chances and some time to reflect.”
And those are really good examples (well, outside of Dimitrioff…he’s a general manager, not a coach). Did anyone else read the CNN-SI article from awhile back, where Haley noted that Coach Carthon and Coach Ward have said that they have to look up to see who’s talking-him or Bill Parcells? I do like Todd Haley, and his emphasis on accountability and doing things the right way…I just a) hope that the media perception on Coach isn’t totally reality, b) and hope that he continues to evolve as a planner, leader and teacher.
“If this team was filled with talent (thanks Herm), then Haley wouldn’t have to be so stern. There are too many mistakes being made on the field.”
-Well put Shadow. I think that’s the other side of the coin, too…a lot of the guys on this team aren’t used to the kind of conditioning, practice, and performance expectations that Haley is putting on them. As our talent base increases I too suspect that Haley’s style will evolve with it.

regarding "Todd Haley, and his emphasis on accountability" ... who's accountable when he screws up the play calling?
if Herm had mismanaged the clock the way Haley did vs Chargers at end of 1st half, people here would be calling for his head on a platter … Haley has misplayed RB position all year long, he’s content with Goff on the O-Line … so where’s the accountability for Haley?
yes, you’d better “hope that he continues to evolve as a planner, leader and teacher” … personally I’m waiting for him to START doing any of that … he’s a good yeller/screamer, I’ll give him that much, but no more

i'd tend to agree with the author
Idealistic perspectives on “how we’d do things” or “how things should be” are just that…fantasy. That’s what the majority of the reaction is here. Idealistic blah blah. It’s not reality.
Winning is the only cure for what is wrong with this team. The head coach’s demeanor doesn’t mean we’re going to eventually be successful. With his tough guy attitude we’ve only WON a single game this season. Is that one win going to bring all the top name FAs here next season? is his “be tough and yell at every mistake” going to bring a top name FA here next season? Doubt it. Which means you’re going to have to draft every player you get, or keep digging through the garbage to see if you can find a leftover piece of steak worthy enough to field a position.
Keep in mind…there are Millionaires all over the planet that don’t get yelled at on a daily basis.

Unfortunately we’ll have to suffer through a lot more losing before the haley supporters will realize his hiring was a mistake. It’s fair to wait because there is only so much that can be done in one offseason. I’m not willing to give him anymore than a failure this year and next though…. And of course you won’t be allowed to be a dick and say I told you so at that point, even if other people are being dismissive dicks now….

as long as you're willing to give the guy
a reasonable amount of time to do the job (a lot more than 7 games) then it’s fair. Most of these Haley haters have already concluded to fire him which is absolutely absurd.

Totally disagree
I say we give Haley 32 games (2 years). And, at the end of the 2010 season – with a combined record of say… 5-27, then we’ll look at Haley’s future more closely. After all, everyone makes a good point, its only 7 games. Like many Haley supporters on AP, I do not see any sign(s) of Haley being a bad coach – uh-uh..NONE whatsoever. He looks like someone who will “EVOLVE” as the talent gets better.
With that said – I must also join the bandwagon of – we will not give up on a coach til the entire or at least the majority of fans turn. It’s not like we’re not use to this sort of turnover. The reason we are in this situation have something to do with the organization’s inability to identify bad moves – be it FA, draft picks or coaching. So if Haley does turn this ship around – great – as a fan of the KC Chiefs, I’d be a freaking satisfied fanatic BUT if he fails after 2 seasons and Pioli fires his ass, we’d be right back where we’re at.
Predictions as of 06.24.2009.
Larry Johnson will be a top 3 fantasy pick once again in 2010 (after a monster season in 2009.)
Dwayne Bowe will be a 2009 Pro Bowl selection.
Brandon Flowers will have at least 6 INTs in 2009 season.
Todd Haley will have a sideline shouting match caught on TV yelling at one of his asst. coaches.

Dont think its right
that some of us are looking at Haley as this big a$$hole. Now who was Haley on the most since first day of training camp? Bowe. And who was the player that was smiling and giving him a Gatorade bath in Washington? Bowe. The media or somebody has made him look like this but in reality he is just a fired up guy that wants to win. LJ may be the only player thats not on board.

I would think
that the players would agree more with the coaches on LJ alot more than players with LJ on Haley. If they cant take Haley they sure as hell cant take the nfl. What did he yell at somone?Did he hurt somones feelings?Does somone need a hug?
