The 5th Reason Croyle Should Start!
Royalsfan wrote an interesting article stating his belief that Croyle should start because he’s a better QB than Cassel. He’s entitled to his opinion. I tend to agree with him. That stated, Cassel is the QB for the Chiefs for the next decade or so. As UCrawford stated, there are 60 million reasons why this is so. Cassel is untradable because of his contract, so we’re stuck with him. The same is not true of Croyle. This is why, if Haley is indeed an astute coach, Croyle will start 3 or 4 games the remainder of this season. After the jump, my reasons.
Three teams will be in the market for a QB this coming off-season, Seattle (Hasselback is approaching retirement), Carolina (Delhomme is losing favor), and Minnesota (yes, Farve will permanently retire someday soon). There will be one veteran QB on the FA table, David Carr. Carr’s already had a brief stay in Carolina, and would seem a good fit for the Vikes. That leaves Carolina & Seattle.
This is why Haley/Peoli need to showcase Croyle. This season got away from us roughly at the same time the Eagles visited us. What’s the worst that could happen? Oh my gawd! We’d lose another game! Too bad. Peoli must urge Haley to give Croyle a good opportunity to showcase his ability for Seattle & Carolina. I’d love to see the Chiefs send Croyle somewhere where he can be successful, in exchange for a 2nd or 3rd round pick in next April’s draft.

First of all...
This should absolutely ONLY be a comment in that existing post…not a new post.
And second, there is no chance ever of anyone giving anything for Croyle…a QB who can’t stay in the game due to injury who has never won a game…and his knees are apparently made of something similar to balsa wood…

Thigpen Could Stay Healthy
Croyle can’t.
Also, Thigpen won a game in one of his starts and he was a better passer than Croyle. And all we got for him was a 5th rounder.

Predictions for 2009
1. Todd Haley's going to struggle with managing his staff in his rookie year as head coach.
6. The Chiefs will go 7-9 in 2009, good for 2nd in the AFC West. Revision: We go 5-11 and finish behind Oakland.
7. Ryan Succop will not perform better in 2009 than Connor Barth did in 2008.
8. The Chiefs will have a bottom 10 defense this year.
9. RB will be a problem area this season on offense.

Thigpen doesn't have Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI)
Croyle does!

True
You can’t showcase someone when they’re on the sideline with a cast, he’d get crushed. It just isn’t a good strategy to pull your starter for someone who’s not a starter for no real valid reason.

What's the "worst" that can happen ...
The “worst” that can happen is not that we will lose another game. There is, at least, something worse … playing musical quarterbacks and telling your team that the investment you made in Matt Cassel is over in 7 games because you expected him to play QB, OL, WR and RB all at the same time. Just allow your team to watch you throw your QB under the bus and I think the “best” might be losing another game.

That is a really great argument...
I think you won us over with the depth of research and facts displayed there…

Gee ... brilliant
He seemed to do pretty well last year … have you ever thought it just might be the surrounding cast that is lacking? … I agree with woodman … your insightful analysis has added so much to this.

Here we go again...
someone post the beating a dead horse picture. You don’t showcase backup QBs in the regular season unless your up by 40 points. The second half of the season means a lot for next year. If we can get some wins under Cassel we will feel a lot better about the team heading into the offseason. Not to mention the reps with Bowe and any other WR that stays on this roster next year. And a side note, there will be a lot more teams looking for a QB in the offseason than the ones you mentioned. Cleveland, Buffalo, St. Louis, Jacksonville and Washington could all use an upgrade at that position as well.

I agree this should have been a comment on the other post.
That said, if Haley doesn’t do something with the 0-line and get Cassel to get rid of the ball quicker, you will get your wish because Croyle will play this year.
I don’t care how tough Cassel is, when you get knocked to the ground on almost every play you can’t last an entire season. And then everyone will remember why Croyle is not a starter.
Chiefs set an NFL record, most roster changes in 1 season.

Teams that finish strong almost always do well the next year.
On a young and rebuilding team finishing strong is an important step towards competeing for the playoffs next year.

Either way who cares if this is a post or a comment somewhere else..
Seriously, this is one of about a dozen posts that are all saying exactly the same thing in one form or another…It’s not like we have anything else to talk about.
We’re on a bye week and it’s boring anyway right now. So let it rip.

2ndly..
you could start the Ghost of Davey Jones and it wouldn’t help. It’s impossible to judge anyone right now because quite simply, there are sooo many problems with the Chiefs at the moment that one part of the team drags down another part ad nausum.
Until we get a good line no one can tell if it’s just the RB’s or the QB or the Receivers. Until we get a defense no one can be sure who to blame. We need a new team.

I don't know ...
The Ghost of Davey Jones would be harder to sack :)

Hmmmm
well if its true that the are looking for the right 53….I say he at least needs to get in a few games…Croyle played pretty damn good against the Ravens. His numbers in that game are better than any game Cassel has started. Haley said that Croyle was the best QB in camp this yr….I get the 60 million dollar thing, trust me, but everyone says Croyle is so fragile, i say he got his ass handed to him because of a lack of protection….I think if it keeps up, Cassel will be next. He scrambles a lot better than Croyle, and that is why he has not taken a dirt nap yet. But, we have already seen him miss one game this season. If he gets hurt again are we going to label him as fragile too, or blame it on the O line because we pay him 60 million?
