Haley: Chiefs Have Not Contacted Charlie Weis

Kansas City Chiefs head coach Todd Haley spoke with the media this afternoon and of course a topic of conversation was now ex-Notre Dame head coach Charlie Weis.

Haley said the Chiefs have not contacted Weis.

"My focus right now is 100% on trying to get ready for the Denver Broncos and bounce back from a very disappointing game yesterday," Haley said.

“As I said last week, at the end of the year I will do anything and everything to evaluate areas of this team and coaching staff to get better. I would say that’s more a question for when the season is over.”

A rumor had been making the rounds that as many as six NFL teams had reached out to him.

Haley also noted his familiarity with Weis, which is a big reason these rumors have crept up.

Haley and Weis worked for the New York Jets together from 1997-99 and actually shared an office so they are "very familiar" with each other as Haley says.

We'll have more quotes from Haley shortly.

Damnit

I really would like to land Weis. He would be a great addition to our team.

We didn't change the offense either...

The only players I hurt with my words are the ones who have an inflated opinion of their ability. I can't worry about that.

im still not so sure they havent talked to him

As secretive as scott pioli is, it wouldn’t suprise me in the least. Seriously what else would they say right now. That would just be an unnecessary distraction to come out and say yeah we contacted him so the offense could change again next season.

Weis meeting with Pioli and Haley over here

Weis didn’t waste much time and started to head towards the meeting site

Predictions as of 06.24.2009.

Larry Johnson will be a top 3 fantasy pick once again in 2010 (after a monster season in 2009.)
Dwayne Bowe will be a 2009 Pro Bowl selection.
Brandon Flowers will have at least 6 INTs in 2009 season.
Todd Haley will have a sideline shouting match caught on TV yelling at one of his asst. coaches.

egos

first of all, I’m a big Haley and Pioli supporter, just wanted to get that out of the way…

But, do you think that Weis would be able to coexist? He seems to be a brash guy with a pretty big ego…

kinda like Haley might be

Pioli has been accused of being egotistical as well

Just wondering how it would work for a 2nd year head coach to be giving orders to a very experienced OC… especially given the fact that Haley has some issues letting anyone else control his offense…

I'm not saying they don't need him

I think he could be a great OC for the Chiefs, IF he can work with the new administration here

I think they could coexist

The conflict with Chan Gailey and Todd Haley was a philosophical one, not an “ego” one. They both had differing opinions of the direction the Chiefs should head on offense. Weis runs the same offense as Haley, so there is no philosophical difference there.

Weis has worked with Haley before and has worked with Pioli quite a bit. I have not heard of any conflicts between them, so I assume they get along alright. It is logical that Weis would be considered for the OC position. I don’t think it will happen though, because it seems like Haley is brooding Carthon to be the eventual OC. If we do decide to bring in Weis as OC, the decision will come from up top (Pioli) and not Haley.

thanks for your thoughts

I’d be perfectly happy with Weis here, IF it works out

Well, I'd be happy with Mike Solari

IF it works out ;)

Predictions:

Kansas City will not win more than four games in 2009
Kansas City will have a new OC and DC in 2010
Kansas City will win at least seven games in 2010

Ego Schmeeeggooo

I don’t know where you all get this stuff.

On a Special Forces Team there are a lot of Egos, about 12 if fully manned. And they all fight and argue, and strut. But at the end of the day that is what makes them who and what they are. I don’t care if they all have these supposed huge ego’s (Which I think is a bunch of made up crap). I’ll guarantee you they can work together, probably argue and yell at each other, whoooopie.

That’s how some people communicate, some of the most successful, team oriented, focused, accomplished, capable people I know.

I’m so tired of reading about Haley and Pioli supposed ego, or conceit, or whatever.

I'm not a smart man

Weis OC and QB coach ?

Weis could fill two birds with one stone and Haley can run the show as HC. Weis and Haley worked together a few years with the Jets and Weis worked with Pioli with the Jets and the Pat’s. The bonds and connections are there, if these guys get along they’ll work together. Weis is getting up there in age and his ailing body isn’t making it any easier for him to run the show as an HC. Haley can handle that pressure and work with Weis philosophically.

Weis will have a great perspective on college talent entering the draft having faced and game-planned against them also.

Pioli needs to call the man and talk shop. I’m sure things are happening behind closed doors. I’m also sure Weis will not make a move or public statement about his future for a few weeks. The Chiefs have as many connections as anybody out there.

why don’t we get a new D-cord instead?

it's not mutually exclusive

they could get a DC and an OC…

We don't need him?

We need an offensive coordinator, and the best person available is going to be Weis.

i disagree...

there will be better. Weis is not that good. bring in kubiak.

I was just watching the Haley press conference...

And did he almost look giddy when reminiscing about the good ol’ days whith his buddy Weis? I didn’t know they were so close?! I actually think there’s a chance we might end up with this guy. I wasn’t too sure about ol’ Weis at first, he kinda looked soft to me, too soft for Haleys style. But comfort and familiarity is key here in la casa de Pioli.

I dont know..

im torn on this one…Weis has been away from the NFL for over six yrs now….a lot has changed…but then again Im no expert. They may clash like some people are saying but you also have to remember that Weis has been through the ringer lately…He may welcome the chance to just stay behinfd the scenes and let Haley take all the heat. Then again he may welcome sitting at home on his ass for a yr or so also…Just to get away from it all…That Notre Damejob comes with a lot of scrutiny

Haley may not have contacted him...
