I guess the $1.49 question is:

Will he be hired by a team before the NFL season is finished this year or afterward? It woul dmake sense to come on board now just to see what kind of talent the team has and how they play in the system they are in currently. Maybe hire as a consultant or assistant coach now and then promote to OC after the season is over. If he is that good he could help with free agency and the draft by comparinf what a team has now and what their needs are.

Winning begins with Attitude - Haley and Pioli will be winners in KC!

I'll forever be a Chiefs fan! Only God himself could take that away from me, but when I get to my great reward, I'll rejoin two bigger fans, my Mom and Dad.

Interesting Question

I suspect he’ll wait until after the season is over unless it’s a job with Belichick. Too much instability in the coaching ranks to commit in-season unless he’s absolutely sure about who’ll be his boss next season.

Why go back to NE?

I’m not sure what he’d do for them. They’ve been alright without him. I’m guessing he’s not doing much until the end of the season…

They've Got A Current Opening For An OC

And he’s got a prior working relationship with Belichick. In-season it’s probably the best fit for him.

also

I suspect the offseason is a better market for someone peddling his services if he wants to bid his price up. Whether he’s good or bad in reality, he is a big name and probably will have interest from multiple places – after the season.

Pretty Much

In-season options tend to be limited. Same type of deal with Shanahan…why agree to a deal now when there are so many other opportunities that may present themselves once people get fired?

That could rule KC out then

as we always seem slow to pull the trigger.
But that was mostly under Peterson, maybe Pioli is less apt to sit on his hands until the eleventh hour.

We would have had him as our coach if Pioli had agreed sooner. I think JD didn’t want to wait for Pioli.

If I had to bet, he'd go back to NE

Why would he be fired now? Doesn’t ND still have a bowl game to play?

not Bowl elligible are they?

If they are they already have named the interim

Players are voting on whether to accept a Bowl bid at 6-6.

Speculation is he won’t coach the bowl regardless. Word is he’s cleaned out his office and put South Bend in his rear view mirror.

He seems like an odd dude. Never a good fit as a college head coach, that’s for sure. I’m intriuged by the possibility of him as the future Chiefs OC though.

He turned off a lot of people when he arrived in South Bend

He’s better off in a low profile OC role.. having said that, anytime you coach at Notre Dame, the rest of your career is never low profile if you stay in coaching.

I hope the Chief's don't go this way. I think Haley needs to get his own person. On D

it’s a different story but Haley will get the O going on his own. Just give him time.

I agree that this has to be Haley's decision.

If Pioli forces this move that is an issue, but if haley makes the hire I think it is a good move. I hope Weiss comes in as the new OC, but only if Haley is the one making the call.

Maybe Weis just wants to get a new gig and fall back under the radar.

We Will kick at least 4 Teams Asses in 09. Almost there :)

Only a professional coach...

Can be fired at one place for doing a shitty job…and yet be in high demand for other jobs.

Sorry. Just a strange observation of mine.

True. Except...

If you hire the world’s greatest plumber to repair cars, chances are it isn’t going to work out well. Weis isn’t suited to be a college head coach. His offenses were never a problem at ND. Heck, he made Brady Quinn look like an NFL player. If his defense could have stopped anybody, they’d have been competing for a BCS spot instead of voting for whether they should accept a bowl bid at 6-6. I don’t care for Weis, but I respect his ability to design an offense.

Do we even want him as a OC?

Was he the only reason that the Pats became superbowl champs? It seems they haven’t missed a beat since he left…

Really, do you think Haley would want a Weis as OC?

First of all tell me what Weis has accomplished on this own as a leader of a football team? To me the next OC for the Chiefs is a Haley person who will follow his exact prescription for the offense. I don’t see him wanting a head strong challenge.

great

I think he has a great chance to redeem himself. theres just some people who ar enot great head coaches but Amazing Coordinators. I think Weis is like that. Hopefully the Chiefs can pull this out

Can he be hired now?

Dont we have an OC opening?

I'm hoping Pioli gives him a call

The dude is a genius QB developer and a hell of an OC. If Pioli can give Haley a solid endorsement and top OC money to Weis (which I pray isn’t as ridiculous as Jason Garrett’s coin) he may be sold to come on this season in the booth to look at what he’s got to work with..

People will say Weis’ departure from NE didn’t exactly effect them.. It’s true, but if you take a shingle from a roof the roof will still be effective. Weis layed out a pretty strong foundation of young players in NE before he left and they’re still riding on the backs of a lot of his products.

on top of that

It’ll take a coach that Haley has a ton of respect for to take over the OC duties and allow Haley to focus on game management. Weis is probably a guy Haley respects, they’ve worked together in the past. I think it will be a good mover for the team all around
