Chiefs Checkin' Out the Gators This Weekend
The Kansas City Chiefs scouts will be making a trip down to Gainesville, FL this weekend. Per Chris Steuber of Scout, the Chiefs will be checking out players in Florida's matchup with Vanderbilt.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Dallas Cowboys, Miami Dolphins, Jacksonville Jaguars and St. Louis Rams are expected to have scouts in attendance as well.
Florida is the No.1 team in the nation and they're not short on pro prospects. Unfortunately, I'm not the draft guru some of you are, but here's a list of a few of the bigger names coming out of Florida this year.
QB Tim Tebow - Would the Chiefs even think about doing this? Interesting conversation on this, I'm sure.
DE Carlos Dunlap - 6'6", 290 pounds. Not sure where he would fit right now. Rated No. 7 on Mel Kiper's big board.
LB Brandon Spikes - Just suspended a game for eye-gouging another player but an intriguing prospect.
CB Joe Haden - 5'11", 190 pounds. He jumped up to No. 11 on Kiper's big board.
I'm not quite sure who the targets might be on Vanderbilt. Fill us in if you know of any.
We have not received word whether the Chiefs are checkin' out the Jayhawks again. They've watched them play in person on several occasions this season. KU plays K-State this weekend.
Chiefs GM Scott Pioli personally observed a workout with UMass LT Vladimir Ducasse last week. This weekend, Dolphins GM Jeff Ireland will check him out as well.

Florida may be the #1 team but they're not the best team
that distinction goes to the Oregon Ducks.

SEC= slop
Everyone wants to talk, “Oh, the SEC has such good defenses…” They ever think that the offenses in the SEC are just trash? Prolly not… I’ll put the Ducks up against anybody in the country now. While Florida and Alabama are squeeking out ugly wins, and Texas beating up on the shwag Big12, Oregon is putting up numbers in the countries best conference, the conference of champions- the Pac-10!

hah the pac 10 is a wash
i’ll admit the SEC is overrated and the BIG 12 isn’t that good as a conference, but the only teams in the Pac 10 even worth mentioning are Orgeon and USC and USC is as overrated as Ohio State. they’ve had good teams in the past so that must mean theat they always have a good team. please. if the Pac 10 is so good then why do they let the MWC walk all over them. they aren’t even a BCS conference, though in my opinion they are better than at least 3 BCS confernces.

Arizona and Cal would like a word with you`
Both currently ranked higher than all local teams in the BCS. Pac 10 has 4 teams in the top 20 of the BCS, more than any other conference including the SEC.
Oregon lost on the road the first week of the season. Masoli looked fat and slow. Since then, nothing but domination.

Do you think Florida would lose to Boise State in any of our lifetimes??
Not a Florida or SEC fan but common sense tells you they play the best football that conference. The last three national champions, number of players in the NFL 263 the pac 10 183.

I never thought Oklahoma would lose to them either.....
Leave the gun. Take the cannoli.

Number of teams in the Pac 10 - 10
Number of teams in the SEC – 12.
The number of players in the NFL is much more comparable when you factor in that the SEC has 20% more teams in the conference.
Let us not forget Oklahoma’s loss to Boise State, on a neutral field.

The thought...
of Tebow in a Chiefs uniform makes me puke in my mouth. I would be ok with Spikes I guess, not sure how he would fit into our system. (Do we really have a “system”).

And never underestimate the defensive value of a good eye-gouging
10/19/09: The Chiefs are on their way to an 11-5 season...I think....
10/26/09: Okay, so it'll be 10-6, I can live with that...

Have to admit
he might fit right in! For 3 years now, it seems like at least once a week (on gamedays!) the Chiefs have me wanting to gouge my own eyes out! :)

Florida...
Tebow is a great TEAM player which is what we need right now but with our needs on this team we need a brand new O-line as well as rebuilding that linebacking corps.
But also take a look at the Poncey Twins those two will seriously help our struggling O-line

tebow is a good QB but it's hard to say he's better then cassle.
cassle at least has proven he can play in the NFL. not all great collage QBs can.

I really don't think Tebow will be an NFL QB
I believe a team would have to devote 5 years of drafting and craft an entire system for Tebow to be a starting NFL QB

Long way to go for Tebow
Granted he’s performed well in big games and will have excellent measureables, it’s not clear that he will ever throw the ball well enough to be a successful NFL QB. He needs to go to a team with an established starter and excellent coaching, see if he can make the transition from experience in a few exhibition games, maybe after a couple of years or so he comes out re-made into a good drop-back passer.
OTOH someone might want to try him as Wildcat/H-back type, use his current passing skills in goal line and short-yardage option scenarios. Might be a success there if he’s quick enough, b/c he’s so big and strong,
Worth a high-round draft pick? I don’t think so.

Not so sure
After watching that replay, I don’t know that I want that guy on my team no matter how great he is. That is a low, low act.
And he gets suspended for a 1/2 a game!!! WTF!! See Blount and Bryant!

We could definitely
use some mean but his eye-gouge was totally out of line. Not very high on the character scale from that act & I think character will be pretty high on the determining factors after this last little episode that the Chiefs will be dealing with for awhile!

I just don't get it!
How is he not suspended for multiple games if not the rest of the season? 1/2 a game!
Dez Bryant shouldn’t be suspended for the year for lying and then telling on himself.

Chiefs take him with their 2nd round pick, and continue to address their O-Line with Atlanta’s 2nd rounder.

Are you making claims...
That he is “in the closet”?
Predictions for 2009:
LJ breaks Chiefs all time rushing record at home
Bowe's numbers regress due to lack of decent QB play.
The D gets better in the second half but still is plagued by big plays
Cassel looks more like the guy Pioli almost cut in the '08 preseason instead of the franchise QB he hoped he would be when he traded him for
Chiefs 6-10

They could be scouting
Any number of guys for rounds 2-7. The only one that makes sense for the first round pick is Spikes but he isnt playing in the first half. Although Dunlap could play DE in the 3-4, do you really want 3 top 5 picks playing 2 positions on a 3-4 line?

Interesting banter on Tebow.
Can he be an NFL QB?
Who knows.
I do know this. He plays with an objective to just get it done. He appears to give 100%.
last week I posed the question of does this KC team have the talent. The real question might be does this KC team put out the required effort? Let’s call it the Tiger (as in Woods) effort.

Wow
I think these are the most uneducated comments I have ever seen on these boards.
Is Tebow religious? Obviously yes. Does that make you all feel so threatened that you can’t talk about his football ability and instead feel the need to insult him personally because he is religious?
Now about Tebows football ability as it pertains to the NFL.
Florida thrives on the option offense. Defenses don’t know whether Tebow will run it or hand it off or drop back and throw. This keeps the defense off balance, often for the entire game. Tebow is obviously a smart player, he obviously can throw (maybe not as well as some) and he can run (which is commonly thought of as mostly useless offensive option in the NFL. It is my belief that Tebow would struggle in a professional offense, no matter how talented he is just because his ability to run would be shut down, effectively taking away his ability to keep defenses guessing. He has already suffered a concussion once, and risking another by running 10 times a game in the NFL would be stupid. Drafting him in the first round is too high. Not saying it won’t happen, it probably will, but in my opinion it is too high.
As for who the Chiefs could be looking for from Vanderbilt?
Only guy I can think of is DB Myron Lewis. I don’t know anyone else with pro talent.
On Florida, Brandon Spikes is commonly thought of as a great 3-4 run stopper and it would not surprise me at all if the Chiefs looked at taking him if he was available in the second round.

Jermaine Cunningham from Florida
is another prospect at DE. His knocks are that he’s undersized but he’ll still get drafted.
Carlos Dunlap is another DE from Florida that’s actually a first round prospect some people think.
Ok I’m done. :p

Florida's got so much talent
Hard to guess about any specific Pioli targets. For all I know they’ve got 2nd-team guys who would rate a decent draft grade. Agree that first round is too high for Spikes.

...
Why is Pioli checkin out the Chickenhawks? We, the Texas Tech Red Raiders successfully demolished them with our RS Freshman quarterback. I highly doubt anyone on their defense would be worth checking out after that. Their offensively line allowed a few sacks on Reesing to boot. If anything Pioli should check out TTU. We got some killer prospects here who I would love to see wearing a Chiefs uniform.

Don't forget about the Pouncey Twins
Florida has two guards by the last name of Pouncey, one is a second round prospect and the other is a 3rd-5th round prospect. Chiefs probably have a higher chance of drafting one of them than any of the other players above.
