The Chiefs Could be Signing a Player Shortly
Today is 'Transaction Tuesday' and the Kansas City Chiefs are likely to utilize it to the fullest. Due to Larry Johnson's suspension, the Chiefs have an open roster spot until November 9th.
The Chiefs have been active in working players out over the past few weeks. The team usually doesn't work a player out on Monday or Tuesday and then sign them to a contract that day. Past history has indicated that the team likely has a player in mind that they've worked out in the past.
Nose tackle? Receiver? Running back?
All possibilities but my guess is that there will be some secondary help coming. Starting free safety Jon McGraw is recovering from a leg strain and his status for the week isn't known. Likewise, backup Jarrad Page has some sort of injury that isn't promising.
There's some speculation that Page has a "major" injury and could be done for a while. A trip to IR would mean another roster spot is open, which would/could be Kolby Smith, Head coach Todd Haley is expected to address that situation today tomorrow.
The Chiefs signed free safety Ricky Price to the practice squad last week. Price was with the team throughout training camp so he would appear to be a quick fix since he's more familiar with the scheme than any off-the-street players. Plus, after Sunday's game when LJ is activated, he could be sent back to the practice squad instead of being released outright. There has been some turnover at the free safety position so this may give the Chiefs brass an opportunity to see what kind of future Price might have with the club.
I think it's pretty much a given that the Chiefs will sign someone, we just don't know who yet.
What's your take? What position should/will the Chiefs sign?

I think it will probably be Kolby Smith.
The LJ suspension lets Haley try out Kolby in a real game. If it is a no go they will put him on IR, and if they want to keep him active, they can decide after the LJ suspension who to release of the active roster (hopefully one of the 4 TE)
Forgot about Ricky...
I forgot we had Price squirreled away on the practice squad this is even better than bringing a guy in off the street…
What the guy above me said about Kolby. He seems to be the winner from LJ’s suspension. Of course, if he doesn’t prove himself he could be gone just as quickly…
"Every day is an evaluation and if you’re not out there how can we depend on you? If you’re out there and you don’t know what to do, how can we depend on you?" Accountability -- Haley-style...
LJ's suspension
Will net a player for one week. Kolby Smith will be back for the season (presumably) so if Page goes to IR then that means we have another spot open.
Was it just me,
or was there remarkable little information about yesterday’s practice other than who played and didn’t?
Not reports on any changes to the O. Was the press there, and if so what part of practice did they see?
They should sign Bernard Pollard
He is a pretty good safety that got released before the season started. Had over 90 tackles last year…not sure if anyone picked him up yet. Someone probably did. You don’t find a young, hard hitting safety with that many tackles just sitting there for free…

And from what we're hearing
a lot of folks in Texas don’t want to give him up.

Could be a possibility
I’d love to give him a workout. He’s probably better than Lance Long..
No New England / Miami / Arizona connection though, so we probably won’t give him a look…..
he did play for Miami
but, it was pre-parcells
I don’t think he’s better or has more potential than Lance Long
But, he could be better than bobby engram
* "I doubt anyone will miss Connor Barth except UCrawford"
* the LB corps may become the biggest strength of the Chiefs in 2009
* The OL is NOT as bad as you think it is... give it time, and you'll see improvement this season
I don't know Joel...
To be quite honest, I am so discouraged with getting my hopes up about player transactions I can’t take another let down.
I’ll just expect them to hire someone who’s been out of football for a dozen or so years and sells ice cream as a street vendor in NYC. This way I won’t be let down.
Galloway before Chambers
because of the Pats connection, or one of the many RB’s available if Smith doesnt pan out
Let me just say this
I’m not meaning to be a downer by that statement. It’s just that I don’t know a lot about the guys we’ve brought in thus far. So everytime I hear about a new guy, I get all ape shit happy about the possibilities this could bring to our Chiefs.
Then when we do research on here about the players their bringing in, it’s always some unknown, obscure, has been or rookie or unisigned unproven etc.
It’s just a merry-go-round of emotions with all the transactions we’ve seen thus far. So I am just going to not get excited, not get my hopes up and expect absolutely nothing different.
This way if it turns out to be something different then so be it. It’ll be a pleasant surprise.
it doesnt matter who they have brought in
they are going to stick to what they have done all season and try to instill Haleys way of playing! Hopefully it will click in the second half and this offseason we can strongly improve
