Chambers Scores But Chargers Still Lead Chiefs

Well, that didn't take long.

In the second quarter of the Kansas City Chiefs game against the San Diego Chargers, Chris Chambers registered a touchdown reception.

It's his third as a Chief and his first since being released by the Chargers a month ago.  He has five catches so far today.

The early story for the Chiefs is the play of Jamaal Charles.  He currently has seven carries for 64 yards and is running like he wants to get paid (which is a good thing).  He had a heck of a run in the second quarter for 31 yards.  Five Chargers had a chance, and failed to take him down.

However, Chargers QB Philip Rivers responded with a deep pass to Malcolm Floyd, the player who took Chambers' spot on the Chargers, and San Diego now leads by 7.

The Chiefs offense is definitely able to move the ball today.  "It's just weird seeing so many first downs," Ms. Primetime reports.

Chargers 14 Chiefs 7

2. ball slips out. ok, he’s human, there’s room for mistakes… but you cant just ignore the fact that he gave them 7 points because he fumbled

Curious

Ok, maybe it was a freak play for the ball to bounce up as high as did off the helmet, but throwing a pass straight at a defender’s head is pathetic. As was Cassell’s later throw right into the hands of the charging defender on a screen.

BTW — I have no strong feelings on Cassell and am commenting as a neutral who does not have particularly strong feelings about tackle football.

Did Cassels decision somehow make the ball accidentally slip out of the back of his hand? Did he purposely try to bounce it off of a helmet and that mistake led to the INT? Negative…

That guy pretty much was

And a QB has to be able to throw the ball beyond the line of scrimmage. A defensive lineman getting a hand up to slap away a pass is seen as a great play, and something that does not happen all that often to good QBs. But allowing a D-Line helmet to block a pass is just garbage-level play.

by KC Gunner on Nov 29, 2009 4:31 PM CST up reply actions

OL provides passing lanes...not the QB...

Not even the homer announcers would blame Cassel for that…They know how much of a freak thing it was…

Don't forget to be an AP-vangelist...Tell A Friend...

by woodman212 on Nov 29, 2009 4:33 PM CST up reply actions

OL provides the lanes

but the QB has the job of throwing in them. Instead, here Cassell threw straight at a Dliner’s helmet

Look, the throw was indefensible and it would remain a terrible play if it simply bounced harmlessly to the ground a few yards beyond the line. You are correct, it bounced freakishly high and allowed the secondary to grab an INT. But it was a bad play to being with that became freakishly horrible.

by KC Gunner on Nov 29, 2009 4:35 PM CST up reply actions

OK going to do it again.....

We need to bring in Croyle…

Predictions for 2009:

The Chiefs will regret cutting LJ

Bowe's numbers regress due to lack of decent QB play.

The D gets better in the second half but still is plagued by big plays

Cassel looks more like the guy Pioli almost cut in the '08 preseason instead of the franchise QB he hoped he would be when he traded him for

Chiefs 3-13

Cassel is inaccurate, makes stupid decisions, and flat out looks Terrible out there…better?

by KCCheeze on Nov 29, 2009 4:37 PM CST up reply actions

And Cassel is the future QB of this team not Brodie

so how does bringing Brodie help this team for the future?

by vincent2668 on Nov 29, 2009 4:39 PM CST up reply actions

i don't care how long he plays

we need something to spark this team…or we could just let mediocrity go unpunished and leave him out there game after game

by KCCheeze on Nov 29, 2009 4:41 PM CST up reply actions

He's probably the best option

He’s completing over 70% of his passes so it’s not all on Cassel but his YPA and turnovers have hurt bad.

by Joel Thorman on Nov 29, 2009 4:42 PM CST up reply actions

That's how you learn...

Most great QBs had very mediocre games early…

We aren’t just trying to win today…trying to get a QB who can lead to the future.

You are being ridiculous...

Its not like we are going to the playoffs. Cassel is the starter this year, and he is going to be the guy next year, might as well let him learn on the fly. Instead of investing team in Croyle, a QB who has proved absolutely nothing at the professional level.

the rest of the turnovers weren’t really his fault. The helmet pick was a fluke…

I rewound it

Cassell was talking to Haley and Carthon, then Waters came up and called him over.

It didn’t appear to be anything contentious.

I thought it went really well, but I didn’t really have a shot, I have zero experience, and my transcript is less than stellar, Im actually kind of pissed, because they had that stuff I just dont understand why they chose to drop nearly a grand on me to bring me down for an interview then reject me based on info they already had.

The water in the gulf is about the same color as a sewage treatment plant, and the smell is pretty close too.
I wouldn’t wish a vacation to Corpus on my worst enemy. /shrug

Chambers has been a great pick-up

but it does highlight the weakness of our WR corps.

Of course, if we began highlighting areas of the team that are weak and in need of major improvements, we’d be here for a while…

This is the type of game where we just need to fight back.

I still have hope for a win but I am being realistic.

I know moral victories don’t mean much when you are as bad as we are but, we just need to make this game a little closer

It is a new Era at Arrowhead. I do not yet know if it is one of greatness or one of ineptitude. I am excited to see which way it goes, and will support my team until the end, bitter or sweet!

Sucking Charger Dick

Predictions for 2009:

The Chiefs will regret cutting LJ

Bowe's numbers regress due to lack of decent QB play.

The D gets better in the second half but still is plagued by big plays

Cassel looks more like the guy Pioli almost cut in the '08 preseason instead of the franchise QB he hoped he would be when he traded him for

Chiefs 3-13
