Chiefs Promote WR Quinten Lawrence from the Practice Squad
As expected, the Kansas City Chiefs have promoted a player from the practice squad. WR Quinten Lawrence will be on the 53 man roster against the San Diego Chargers.
Lawrence is a rookie 6th round pick out of McNeese State.
Lawrence was with the team until being waived on October 24th. Two days later, the Chiefs brought Lawrence back after he went unclaimed in the waiver process.
He was then placed on the practice squad.
Promoting a receiver means the Chiefs will enter the game with just three safeties. Ricky Price, safety on the practice squad, was another player many thought the Chiefs would promote.
This also means the Chiefs have an open spot on the practice squad. Lawrence could be waived and re-signed to the practice squad or the Chiefs could keep him on the active roster.

i must admit, i'm a little surprised by this
The only players I hurt with my words are the ones who have an inflated opinion of their ability. I can't worry about that.

Not me
The way they used him in pre-season shows there is something not only Pioli likes but Haley does as well about this kid. I personally think he won’t even be a Chief in two more seasons but they’re certainly giving this kid opportunities. I’m suspecting its his speed and blocking ability as a receiver they like but one thing is for sure is that this promotion doesn’t bode well for Ricky Price. If there’s a safety on our PS and he isn’t being bumped up just for one game, then he’s probably not ready for the big leagues. Cue the sad training camp pic of him sitting on the upside down trash cans thinking, “Man, I wish I could be a Chief”

i guess i'm just more surprised that given their lack of depth
in the secondary, we promote a wide receiver. i know he’s fast as hell but from what i saw, he can’t catch

I thought this would happen
I have been calling for this since the post on Charles doing double duty. It just makes sense and I’m excited to see him get an opportunity to succeed.

Thats my idea
I’m assuming he takes over kickoff returns at least so Charles can focus on being the primary ballcarrier.
Uh...why?
If I am not mistaken Jamaal Charles ran one back last week against the Steelers. Lawrence wasn’t even the primary KR for his team in college at McNeese State and has only returned one punt in his entire career. Charles should be returning kicks — I think he showed that last weekend. At PR, we need a guy that can catch the thing and not fumble it. Having only one PR his entire career, I am not sure Quinten Lawrence is quite ready yet. Bobby Wade is fine at that position, for now.
Jamaal did get the workload last weekend, but a lot of that was because Kolby Smith got hurt, leaving JC to take the bulk of the carriers. If I am not mistaken, Kolby is back this week so overusing Charles shouldn’t be a problem. He is a pro athlete. If he needs to take a play off after a long return, put Kolby Smith in.
Why mess with something that FINALLY appears to be fixed for the first time since we got rid of Dante Hall— the KR position. Also, our WR corps FINALLY looks to be getting it together — why are we messing with it?
Ricky Price or Javarris Williams should have got the call if we wanted to promote somebody. Either one makes a lot more sense than Lawrence.
At McNeese Lawrence
returned 22 kickoffs for 419 yards (18.9 avg.). Lawrence also had a 70-yard punt return for a touchdown.
Yeah, let's just keep matriculatin' the ball down the field, boys! ...

I love Lawrence...
He has huge potential. He has the great speed you look for. He just needs to run his routes better. Something that can be coached up. He has pretty decent hands as well. Remember that reverse play for 16 yards he ran? We’ll see stuff like that out of him.

I know he's only player 53,
but I hope he’s being brought up because he’s been showing some promise even more than just to get Charles out of the kick return game.
I hope he tears it up
It’d be nice to see another kick return by another player than Charles. I want Charles to run for 100+ yards and 2 tds, focusing on the run game only.

I hope this
2009-10 Predictions:
1. Chiefs will win ATLEAST 6 games, which is a big improvement over 6 wins in 2 seasons
2. Succop will bring stability to the K position for the first time in years
3. Chiefs D will atleast double the number of sacks form last season
4. Cassel will be a top 15 QB
5. Todd Haley won't make a poster and jump around holding it up welcoming the Chiefs players to summer camp, I mean TRAINING camp

IPhone let's me finish my post
I was trying to say that this hopefully means Lawerence has made progress on returns and is essentially replacing Charles and legget/savage on kick/punt returns

Haley is a recievers coach...
Im sure he saw something in him . Put him in to return kicks and a few plays to stretch the field with his speed. Might free up others underneath or give Chambers one on one on the other side of the field. Not a terrible idea. Leaves the door open to sign someone else and give this kid a chance….7th rounder, cant expect too much
He must have shown something
We have enough receivers active, so to choose him over a position of need like safety must mean he’s being doing well.
So which of the receivers do we inactivate?
Bobby Wade, Mark Bradley, or Lawrence? Looks to be between Wade and Lawrence and Wade is the more experienced PR.
Did Lawrence even make the plan trip to San Diego. I would bet he is inactive against the Chargers unless there is some injury to another WR that we haven’t heard about yet.
none, savage and leggett will be inactive

this is bizarre
the PS is probably a good place for him. right now hes a one trick pony that needs work. we’re already so deep at WR that we’re sitting guys who’ve been #1 guys for other teams. I was hoping we would bring up favorite. He’s easily the best guy on the PS
Must be showing some promise returning punts/KO's
Then he’s replacing Savage and Leggett… Honestly, other than as return guys they weren’t anything great in the offense or defense…Activate Washington, he’s already on the roster just been sitting out the past 10 games

Favorite doesn’t really make much sense either. Edwards is the starter and Smith played well enough that he didn’t seem to be a problem when Edwards went down. I don’t see any reason to have three NT’s active on gameday.
The only three guys from PS that would have made sense to me were Bates and Price, Williams if Savage is too beat up to go.
If he is a real burner
then I’d like to see him used to stretch out the field to run the safety deep and open up the middle for Chambers or Long. This may be a strategy to stretch the field.
Then again...who knows
Haley has had some real head scratchers…Remember after the Giants game who was inactive?…thats right, J Charles. The guy that has sparked us to a two game win streak and has us all pumped up…..Just another bonehead move by Haley.
