Around SBN: Newcastle Battle Injury Woes Ahead of Tottenham

All season long Tennessee junior safety has been considered to be one of the top 2-3 prospects overall for the 2010 draft. However, there are some signs that Berry may ultimately decide to return to school for his senior year next fall. Tennessee coach Lane Kiffin, for example, is being quoted as saying Berry has a surprise for fans on Saturday when the Vols face Kentucky in their final regular season game. At the same time, Berry did not participate in the team’s traditional last tackle drill on Thursday morning in which each senior tackles a blocking pad dressed in Kentucky gear.

As much as \i think athletes should stay in school football is somewhat of an exception.

I think if you are certain you are a first round pick you come out. The risk of injury is too high. If you sign a multi-year deal you can afford to pay for college out of your own pocket if things don’t work out.

I agree

He’s slated as a top 5 pick, there is no way to get any higher than that. Even if he turns into the biggest bust of all time he could easily afford to go back to school to finish up his degree. (albeit he could just as easily retire and live off the ~$70 mil made off his contract).

Nice fact checking ravenhawk

Sean Taylor was #5. And just because it never happened before, doesn’t mean it won’t happen. If he’s the best player at KC’s position of need, WHY NOT?!?

by T-Rich on Nov 28, 2009 11:12 PM CST up reply actions

Won't get him...

If the Chiefs keep winning then they won’t have a chance at Berry, even if he comes out of school early. Mock the Draft has the Chiefs with the #9 pick right now with our current record. If Berry is a Top 5, then the Chiefs are playing themselves out of the position to pick him.

Look To Bama

Since the chiefs can only draft SEC players it seems, How about the best most disruptive linebacker in the country, Rolando Mclain?

by vermonster on Nov 28, 2009 12:00 PM CST reply actions

Nah, if Berry doesn't come out we're a lock to draft O-line

Cassell needs help, and our defense will play better when they are not on the field 2/3 of the game. So upgrading our O-line upgrades our defense, by proxy.

by Pilcrow on Nov 28, 2009 12:06 PM CST up reply actions

... and whom do you see as first round offensive line

I’m not seeing anyone in the first round that is an immediate upgrade from what we have that we can’t get in the 2nd round.

by ravenhawk on Nov 28, 2009 12:55 PM CST up reply actions

I don't see Okung as an upgrade over Alberts(plus he will be off the table by the time we pick).

I haven’t seen Buluga play up in Iowa… How is his play?

There is also Bruce Campbell whom I would only want on the team to make Army of Darkness and Evil Dead Comments.

by ravenhawk on Nov 28, 2009 1:06 PM CST up reply actions

Okung is a natural left tackle

while Albert is a natural right tackle. So we move Albert back to right, and we have our bookends. But Okung likely won’t fall to us, and I don’t know much about Buluga.

by Pilcrow on Nov 28, 2009 1:50 PM CST up reply actions

thats what i thought

Think the plan might be to draft a LT and move Albert inside to LG and waters either moves to center or gets traded or cut.

by golfbard on Nov 28, 2009 2:04 PM CST via mobile up reply actions

Sorry but Albert is a natural left tackle.

He never played on the right side of the ball.

If anything he would be considered a natural LG because of his experience at LG in College. The only reason he was pushed inside was because of all the talent Virgina had at LT. Brandon Albert’s first year had D’Brickashaw Ferguson starting at LT… this pushed him to LG. The next year Eugene Monroe took over at the LT position. These two LT were both drafted top 10 in the draft with lots of talent on the offensive line.

If you want bookend tackles grab Joeseph Barksdale in the second round if he is still available.

You don’t see Okung as an upgrade over Albert? Then why do you say he’s coming off the board so early. What a compliment to Albert who is widely known around the league as BUST. But why do I say these outragous things? Its shown in crystal clear HD on Sundays, check it out.

New Poll: How many sacks will Brandon Albert give up today?

SEC players...you mean LSU players.

Javier Arenas

Safety and deadly return skills. Will break NCAA record next week, and that’s in a real conference, not the WAC or BIG 12

by vermonster on Nov 28, 2009 12:12 PM CST reply actions

Why

would we draft another project nickel CB? We already have Washington.

The Kansas City Chief's 2009 record will be 5-11.

by Druful on Nov 28, 2009 12:33 PM CST up reply actions

Kind of better for us.

I mean, look at it this way. IF he stays in, we will get probably a guaranteed STARTER/PLAYMAKER. Whether it be Suh, or somebody else….so we pick whoever it be in this draft, THEN next year we may have a chance to snag him. Who knows….crazier things have happened. Just hope:)

I'm afraid McClain may be overrated

nothing in game film jumps right out at me. What top OT’s will be in this class? Or in the top 15? (Okung will be gone, LSU’s Black will still be on the board…)

I'll believe it when it happens

“Last Saturday after finishing the home schedule of the 2009 season, junior Eric Berry took a half a lap around Neyland Stadium. Berry wanted to offer thanks to the fans who have come and supported him and this team this season. This week, Berry looks to end the regular season with their first road win and to improve their bowl stock. And will many talk about his career and his soon to be made decision on the NFL, Berry’s just focusing on winning.”

If Berry's off the board

Look for either offensive line or Mays. There aren’t many other prospects unless we win out and have a mid round pick.

any way we go rb?

like spiller good rb and a lethal returner

i am a diehard chief fan and have been since 1992 and that wont ever change my current favorite player in the entire nfl is chiefs wr dwayne bowe

High first round pick on a RB

No way…thats not the patriot way…especially with the way Charles is showing up…they will either build the defense or the oline…if we drafted a rb I would be pissed

by groundedchevy on Nov 28, 2009 7:10 PM CST reply actions

Is this the surprise?

Nothing reported regarding Berry other than this…

“Special teams C

The Vols still have no legitimate options in the kicking game, and they were again gashed in the return game. UT struggled to corral Cobb when Kentucky wasn’t penalized, but its surprise unveiling of Berry as a return man was a qualified success."
