Three Chiefs Out on Sunday With One Roster Spot Still Open
Kansas City Chiefs head coach Todd Haley has ruled three players as out for Sunday's game against the San Diego Chargers.
- RB Dantrell Savage
- RG Andy Alleman
- LB Justin Rogers
Mike Vrabel will also be listed as questionable. He did not take part in practice today and multiple reports have said he is expected to miss several more games. If he played, I think it would be a surprise.
The Chiefs operated alright without Savage, Vrabel and Alleman last week so don't expect a whole lot to change there. The Chiefs will likely be infused with some extra help at RB they missed for a half last weekend. Kolby Smith is listed as probable after missing the second half of last Sunday's game with injury.
When the Chiefs activated Lance Long from the practice squad, the first reports didn't come out until Saturday evening. This is a similar situation so expect someone to be promoted from the practice squad.
After the jump, I've listed all the practice squad players. Who do you think gets the nod?
CB Jackie Bates
DE Dion Gales
G Daryl Harris
WR Quinten Lawrence
RB Javarris Williams

Good call
I think Price gets the nod to ensure that we have enough safeties…
I’ve been itching to see what Marlon Favorite’s got. Maybe this is the week that we see him spell Ron Edwards for a few plays. I can hope, can’t I?
"Every day is an evaluation and if you’re not out there how can we depend on you? If you’re out there and you don’t know what to do, how can we depend on you?" Accountability -- Haley-style...

i'm going to guess either Harris or Williams
not sure how Harris is doing in camp, but Oline is shaky as it is, it might be best to get the extra body in there just in case
if rhymes were valiums, i'd be comfortably numb

Williams
I would like to see what Javarris can do, he ran hard during training camp and preseason and I wanna see what he can do in the game

i think a 3-headed rushing attack might be interesting...
… if we can muster it. It’d certainly be a nice change of pace (since we played them the first time)

Isn't Kolby Smith looking healthy?
and Castille looked pretty decent too.
I believe Williams will probably stay on the practice squad.

I agree
I think Williams was almost up then Castille came up as an idea…he fits…I like the guy, I know people complain of cast offs but…in the preseason I wanted Long, I wanted Pope(always been a big leonard pope fan, all the skills, still young…upside)…
I do wonder if kolby will dice into charles’ carries…I hope he still gets over 15…

I didn't know much about Long and was blah about him.
He did have one good game, and I hope to seem him continue with the team(even though his stats have disappeared).
Leonard Pope on the other hand was someone that I did want to come… I too am a Leonard Pope fan.
Castille I don’t know much about, but I liked what I saw last week.

It's not really about stats with any of these guys, including Long
They are still a work in progress. It’s really about consistency and showing up in big moments. That 30 yard catch by Long last week against Pitt was HUGE.
Contrast that with Bradley who keeps dropping catchable balls in 3rd down situations and I would say that Long has more than shown he deserves a 6 game audition for next season
10/19/09: The Chiefs are on their way to an 11-5 season...I think....
10/26/09: Okay, so it'll be 10-6, I can live with that...
11/9/09: So KC spots the league 7 games. 9-7 is respectable.

they may also be waiting who knows
since…you dont activate 53 on gameday anyway…I agree with coach vermeil on that being kind of lame…you get 53, all 53 should be active.

just looking at that list...makes me wish Q Lawrence can turn into something

i think he will... next year
* "I doubt anyone will miss Connor Barth except UCrawford"
* the LB corps may become the biggest strength of the Chiefs in 2009
* The OL is NOT as bad as you think it is... give it time, and you'll see improvement this season
* Stats are for losers

I'm gonna go with Ricky Price....
Going to the game this weekend. And I really hope we have some Safety help. There’s no way I could stand being in a Charger Fan Sandwich and having them high five over my head because we gave up “the big play”. Ricky Price needs to back up. Price and Morgan have speed and will make Rivers think twice before throwing over everybody.
I know that you're afraid... you're afraid of us. You're afraid of change. I don't know the future. I didn't come here to tell you how this is going to end. I came here to tell you how it's going to begin.
'09, a new era begins in Kansas City.

Rivers is not going to think twice if Price and Morgan are in the Chiefs 2ndary
Price and Morgan haven’t done anything to deserve Rivers’ consideration.

Williams, Price, or Lawrence
all have a good chance. We need someone to return kicks for us now that Charles is our #1 RB option.
In addition, we are now thin at S and HB, so that’s why I could see either Williams or Price getting the nod.

There isn't some
ex-Patriot, Cardinal or Dolphin WR that could be signed on Friday afternoon so they could get most of the throws in Sunday’s game? :-)

Or somebody on the D.
To knock of Phillip Rivers head. Gotta switch it up now and then, can’t always boost the offense.
