Around SBN: Tiger Woods, Tony Romo Grouped Together At Pebble Beach

Roth fell out of favor with the coaching staff after suffering a groin injury and illness, falling deep into coach Tony Sparano and football czar Bill Parcells' doghouse. There had been rumors about him being dissatisfied with his contract. Highly regarded out of Iowa, Roth is expected to draw action on waivers.

ha, thanks man :)

* "I doubt anyone will miss Connor Barth except UCrawford"
* the LB corps may become the biggest strength of the Chiefs in 2009
* The OL is NOT as bad as you think it is... give it time, and you'll see improvement this season

Sorry - who is Matt Roth?

this is matt roth

it gets really good around 4:30/5 minutes, and the best play is around the 7 minute mark.

I literally just came back to the site to post that he had been released and I thought maybe we have a use

I mean…can he be worse than herron? not that herron is bad but the guy never plays…altho roth would be OLB? rushing? meh, with our luck picking up cards/pats/anyone who knows pioli/haley…maybe we outta go back to the ndukwe/alleman tree and take another dolphin.

by SDChief on Nov 24, 2009 9:32 PM CST reply actions

yeah, why not?

keep churning the bottom half of the roster…

Herron has a couple of special teams tackles, but that’s about it.
Rogers hasn’t even been active yet, has he?

This guy does have some potential

What teams that run the 3-4

aside from Cleveland, is ahead of us on the waiver wire?

No one besides Cleveland

but that doesn’t mean he won’t be claimed. Good pass rushers are hard to come by and he’s young.

His college coach was Kirki Ferentz who has ties to the Belichick tree (Pioli, Mangini, Schwartz)

by golfbard on Nov 24, 2009 9:40 PM CST up reply actions

A stronger tie

is Nick Saban who was the coach of Miami (who drafted him) and former coach of LSU who is known to have not only deep ties to Pioli by Belichick also. If I remember correctly Saban ran the 4-3 in Miami so he may be looked as at as a LDE in a 4-3 scheme, like he played in Miami pre-Parcells

Well According to NFL.com

We are 25th in the league by record.

via Wikipedia

“Roth was drafted by the Miami Dolphins in the second round (46th overall) of the 2005 NFL Draft. The team selected him with a draft pick obtained in the trade that sent cornerback Patrick Surtain to the Kansas City Chiefs.”

Matt Roth was a Stud at Iowa

He is 6-4 275 and had 53 takles with 5 sacks last year as a full time starter. He would be a great addition to our team. Why not take him if you can get him?

Though there might be some back room warning from Parcels?

by Skrappy on Nov 24, 2009 11:32 PM CST reply actions

Might as well claim him.

He’s probably about the same as Hali, they’d be good in a rotation together. Keep ’em fresh.

by Vince D on Nov 25, 2009 12:06 AM CST reply actions

Y'all realize

Roth has played on the left end his entire professional career, whether it be LDE or LOLB meaning its likely he’d be competing with either Vrabel or Studebaker for playing time. It’s not to say he couldn’t be moved to ROLB, but either way it’s not likely he’d be starting in KC. As for depth he’d be a vast upgrade as to what we got. Said it once, I’ll say it again – ink his ass up.

great point.

that kind of puts his college numbers in perspective, huh? the qb saw him coming and still he racked up 30 collegiate sacks.

also worthy of note in lieu of recent posts on here, matt won the illinois state wrestling championship his senior year in high school with a record of 31-0 (wikipedia).

I do realize that...

Vrabel played inside some in NE…I would like him to try some of that here…Roth and Stud can rotate…

Miami moved him around, he played right and left side linebacker. he would line up on either side depending on the play call.

This guy is NASTY, we need that kind of presence on D, we don’t have that.

What part of being in Parcell's doghouse did you guys not read?

There’s no way we take someone that doesn’t have the Tuna’s seal of approval.

(Raiders game 1 should be listed here, 409 yds off, we let them off the hook)
(Cowboy's should be listed here - They are who we thought they were)

read Babb's tweets

he said that he wouldnt’ be surprised at all if the Chiefs put a claim in

I stand corrected then

Must not have been too much in the doghouse :)

If we sign this guy it will be the same as adding chambers on offense, i KNEW Chambers was a big pick up, this guy would be the same, but I think cleveland is gonna snatch him up
