HI AP family!! Hey I been out of action for a few days. I had a little surgical procedure and have been a little ill. I wanted to take a moment to reflect on Sunday's AWESOME win!! I am so proud of our guys.
First and foremost, I stand by my feelings that up UNTIL this Sunday, I don't believe we have actually WON a game as much as we've been given a couple of games for free. I stand by the fact that I think we came out with a Win against Washington and Oakland because we were smart enough to get out of the way and let them beat themselves senseless.
But I got to thinking about it and guess what? I haven't given enough credit where it's due. For one thing it finally hit me today how very few turnovers we are committing against very good teams. I must admit I didn't give enough thought to that. That's impressive to say the least.
Another thing is the lack of penalties against us. Really good. I haven't taken the time to check out our stats in comparison to the rest of the NFL, and I don't need to. I've seen enough NFL throughout my life to know that comes only from good coaching and being well prepared.
But Sunday took the cake for me. I admit it wasn't a dominating, a smooth or even a fluid win. We gave Pittsburgh every chance to beat us and then took them back. I know some will say "you take em' however you can get em'". I don't buy that completely. I say if your the Saints or Colts and you win a couple real ugly one's then ok. In that case you DO take them however they come. But when your 6-26 over a 2 year span and your looking for REAL improvement, you need to SEE something more than luck in lousy played games.
Sunday provided me that. Again, it wasn't a super great performance all around, but wow, talk about improvement. That's all I've asked for. Something real. Something tangible to believe in. I got it big time on Sunday. The couple things that stand out to me are the defensive improvements and the fight for 60 minutes I saw.
Our defense really really stepped it up. We were still the Chiefs and we still showed some vulnerability here and there, especially to the big pass play. But by and large that was a real step up for the defense. So good for them.
For the first time since 2006 I saw all the guys fight with every last ounce of energy until the final whistle blew. No one got discouraged and gave up. No one blew it big time in our last chance to win scenario this week. No missed coverage's or botched assignments. We stepped up where and when we had to. And we did it against a much better, much more talented team; the defending Superbowl champions.
I was so impressed by Haley's sideline attitude and the play of the Chiefs that I stayed up all night making a batch of kool-aid. Now hopefully I'll get to Arrowhead for a game and I can bring it to the tailgate party. I would love to meet all of my friends here on AP. Yah, even the Kool-Aid Klan. (-:
