Chiefs LB Mike Vrabel Returns to Practice

Good news and bad news this morning for the Kansas City Chiefs.  We'll start with the good news first, followed by the bad news.

Vrabel returns

LB Mike Vrabel returned to practice and was in pads according to Josh Looney of KCChiefs.com.  This is a big, big development because it had previously been reported that he was facing 3-5 weeks on the sidelines.  We're not sure how much he participated but the fact that he's out there is great news.

UpdateBob Gretz reports that it was Studebaker, not Vrabel, working with the first team defense.

Star-divide

Noteworthy returns from injury

RB Kolby Smith was out on the practice field running at full speed after suffering an injury that knocked him out of Sunday's game.

G Andy Alleman was back after not playing last weekend due to injury. He was replaced by Wade Smith last weekend but his participation today is encouraging for the Chargers game.

WR Chris Chambers was running fine after hurting his ribs in last weekend's game.

RB Dantrell Savage was back at it after missing last weekend's game with injury.

Injuries and Leggett not at practice

LB Justin Rogers was inactive last weekend due to injury and again did not participate today.

The big question mark right now is where was Maurice Leggett?  He wasn't out on the practice field today and he did suffer an injury on Sunday.  Looney said a Leggett update would be coming this afternoon.

I know this isn't right but...

I was kinda hoping to see a little more of Studebaker.

I think you still will

Haley likes to get people that make plays on the field. I’m not saying Vrabel comes out, but I bet Studabaker sees some good playing time.

Vrabel is only practicing right now

the depth chart hasn’t changed…

If you only knew...

Bad news coming about Leggett I think.

Watching it live I thought he broke his arm. Just the amount of pain he showed and the way he favored it when walking off the field.

I remember Dawson to Taylor, Kenney to Carson, and Blackledge catching the snap in his facemask. Seen it all...

CB Maurice Leggett exited the game against Pittsburgh in the second quarter with an arm injury and did not return.

from RotoTimes

and he’s been tweet-free which is unusual for him.

I was thinking he broke his wrist/arm...

He did look like he was in intense pain. Hopefully its just some tendon/muscle strain and will be out for a few weeks, and not IR.

Yet it isn’t looking good.

IR I bet

* "I doubt anyone will miss Connor Barth except UCrawford"
* the LB corps may become the biggest strength of the Chiefs in 2009
* The OL is NOT as bad as you think it is... give it time, and you'll see improvement this season
* Stats are for losers

maybe they will bring Ronnie Lott back for the last 6 games?

looks to be getting the itch again & there is that New England connection that we’ve all heard rumours about! :)

Ive said this for weeks

Mo Legg…A. is not playing up to par…on D or special teams and B.off the field, Mo Legg seems VERY focused on rap, ala tank tyler…Im not saying its bad, Im just saying from what I see with Mo Legg and where his priorities are…I think hes gone…add in poor play, and its case closed…

just my guess.

Bench Vrabel

Sorry but Studi played better in that game than Vrabel has all season.

The kid has 12 tackles, 10 solo, 2 picks and half a sack in less than two games work in relief of Vrabel.

I agree

He was drafted by the eagles in the late rounds, that team always has a knack for drafting talent and developing it, as much as i hate to admit it because i hate the eagles. They had to let him go because of injuries to the LB core, needed immediate players

...Or maybe...

Shift Vrabel inside, to help Mays, Demo & DJ? He can play inside too, can’t he?

Your wish...
OLB Mike Vrabel was back working with the linebackers, although Andy Studebaker was working with the No. 1 defense.

Vrabel has vanished when we neededhim

His worst games this season? The first Raider game he had only 3 tackles.

Dallas? 2 tackles. Both winnable games.

I am not discounting Vrabel's value to the team this year

I am just saying that his on-field performance seems to be on the decline and given his age, he needs to make way for the young guy now. We should still play him. I would rather have Brabe; spelling Andy than Walters at this point.

But you have to let Andy keep rolling and see what he can do. If he pans out to be an above average OLB it will make filling the roster that much easier next year.

We aren’t going to the playoffs so lets get this guy some playing time and see what we got.

"Bench Vrabel"

I agree. Vrabel is probably no coming back, has been more influence than player, KC needs to see if his replacement is on the team.

really glad alleman is back, nice to see more from him.

haley has done a nice job getting PT for everyone to see what we have with magee/gilbery on 3rd downs looking strong, Pierre came in last week on 3rd downs for andy at times, which was cool…I would say D-Wash needs some time, and Dajuan Morgan…to know what we have…

by SDChief on Nov 24, 2009 12:24 PM CST reply actions

Well if he goes on IR i believe we’ll see alot more of Donald Washington, i really liked that pick, hope he doesn’t disappoint me.

by RamX21 on Nov 24, 2009 12:33 PM CST up reply actions

yeah even though he has had some major lapses in coverage

I would much rather give him the nickle spot over Richardson.

A man who says he can, and a man who says he can't are both right. Which one are you?

by Bashman on Nov 24, 2009 12:38 PM CST up reply actions

Yea, but he’s a rookie corner in the NFL, its bound to happen. MoLegg had some pretty bad lapses himself, so the opportunity to get him more reps can only help

by RamX21 on Nov 24, 2009 12:40 PM CST up reply actions

makes me wonder if he came back just for that purpose?

Studebaker could still start.

Shhhhh... that's a secret.

That’s always a possibility. It would be interesting to see Mike and Andy out there together.

Yeah, let's just keep matriculatin' the ball down the field, boys! ...

Oh no need anymore Chiefs heard...*wink wink* haha

Update: Bob Gretz reports that it was Studebaker, not Vrabel, working with the first team defense.

This isn't a tight end

This is a linebacker who walked on to the field by mistake. He may run free into the end zone.

Hmmm...

Vrabel has played some ILB in the past too, correct? I would kind of like to see him enter that rotation and leave the Stud out there..

can we talk available corners?

If MoLeg is out do we pick up a cb? I just saw that philly cut their 4th rounder from Wisconsin. He was a stud in college until he got hurt. He may be available. Any other cb’s or db’s available. I do wish DWash is ready
