Your Weekly Glass of Kool Aid - Week 12 Edition
via Image Shack
Well what can I say? I put in last weeks post that I would need lots of Kool Aid to cheer people up this week after the Steelers game. Boy am I glad that I was wrong. You probably don't even need a glass of Kool Aid this week to buy into things in the Chiefs universe, but hey we might as well bask in the victory while we can. Alot of what I am including has already been mentioned by others, but I present it to you here in one nice "feel good" package.
Also, mad props to 58 was my friend for the killer picture!
Let's take a second to really think about the victory last week. We were facing the number one rush defense that also happens to be one of the best blitzing teams in the NFL. Our offense was without our #1 WR. Our offensive line gives our QB (who tends to hold onto the ball too long) no time to throw. This did not look like a match up where we would score any points. On the other side of the ball we came in with a weak pass rush and bad coverage by the safeties and nickel backs. We were facing a team with a QB that avoids the rush and has a ton of talented targets. This did not look like a match up where we would be able to keep them out of the end zone. They had won two Super Bowls in recent years and we were 8-33 over the last three seasons. No one (including myself) gave us a chance, AND WE WON BABY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That alone should give you all the "hope" you need to get you through this week, but just in case you're still not on cloud nine here are a few more to make your day.
- The Broncos lost to the Chargers 32-3. Their coach got in a battle of "smack talk" with SD's linebackers. Their star WR was screaming like Todd Haley after a wasted time out at their rookie RB after he fumbled at the goal line. It was great! Over the past four weeks KC is 3-2 and the Broncos are 1-4. Over that span, the "new and improved" Denver D has given up 140 points while KC has only given up 101. :-)
- During his first three games as a Chief, Chris Chambers has 10 receptions for 249 yards and 2 TDs. During that same span Malcolm Floyd (who is the new starter in SD with Chambers gone) has 9 receptions for 112 yards and 0 TDs. And just for fun, the Raiders first round draft pick Darrius Heyward-Bey only has 7 receptions for 103 yards and 0 TDs (all season).
- Mr. 2.7's final stats this year with the Chiefs were 132 carries for 377 yards and 0 TDs. Jamaal Charles now has 64 carries for 313 yards and a TD. That means with only 65 more yards rushing Charles will pass 2.7 as the leading rusher for the Chiefs this season. If you factor in receiving yards Charles is already ahead of 2.7 in yards from scrimmage (474 to 453). But hey, I'm sure 2.7 is happy to be backing up rookie Bernard Scott (Cincy's very own Jamaal Charles clone) and getting his 2 carries for 5 yards.
- This one is for any of you "anti-optimists" that still may not be convinced that we have improved as a team as the season has gone on. We scored a special teams TD, we returned an INT down inside the ten yardline. We gave up over 300 yards passing while playing against a defensive powerhouse that stops the run and gets after the QB. Here's the catch, I'm not talking about the Steelers game, but our week one game against the Ravens. There are a lot of similarities between the two games, but we lost that one 38-24 and we found a way to win this one 27-24. That is progress folks.
- Finally, Andy Studebaker (who in case you haven't heard 250 times is out of little, itty bity, teeny tiny, Wheaton College) has as many INTs this year as Nnamdi Asomugha and Champ Bailey combined. (I know, I know, nobody throws at them. It's still fun to say!)
So there you go, a little more Kool Aid for you in case you aren't drunk on the stuff after our big win. No matter what happens in SD this weekend stay positive APers!

Hopefully I won’t but hey…
When you fail to prepare, you prepare to fail.

Thanks for pulling us “kool-aiders” along. What a game! For all you doubters out there, to quote the late, great Jim Morrison, come on and “Break on through to the other side”:

Ridiculous...
Don’t know LJ’s exact salary this year, but I think it was around 2.1 Mil?
Based on that, we paid him roughly $5,570 for each yard he gained this year. Or said another way, $15,909 per carry.
Oh Nooooooooo

what has 2 thumbs, and is now drinking pitchers of Chiefs Kool-Aid?
this guy!
I’m all over some Kool-Aid after this game! We’re still an off-season away from being a legit contender, but this victory was an enormous step forward……and it happened on my b-day weekend! Thanks for the weekly glass, Porkchop….I’ll have some more please!
After that opening kickoff return yesterday...
…everybody wearing red in Arrowhead was drunk on koolaid.
From the non-drinker viewpoint, we win 2 to 4 down the stretch with the Donkeys fading fast and Cleveland and Buffalo living up to their full potentials this season. But as an unabashed Koolaide junkie, if the team that played Sunday shows up on the field in San Diego and Cincy, we could win out!
I am already stoked for the future of this team and coach – win or lose – but can you imagine the shock if we end up 9-7 making a play for an AFC wildcard slot?
Impossible to believe, but 48 hours ago beating the Steelers was an impossible dream too. I’m just glad nobody told that to Coach Haley and the team!
Pass me another koolaid and bring on the bolts!!!!!!!
9-7 probably won't be good enough to get a wildcard
but if something crazy happened, and we went 9-7 and 4-2 in the division, we might be able to win the AFC West…
Ryan Succop will be the kicker for the AFC in the 2011 Pro Bowl
3 of our losses came from the NFC
AFC – OAK, SD, BAL, JAX
NFC – DAL, NYG, PHI
I realized that it is far-fetched, but that is very good for a tiebreaker, considering each team only plays 4 NFC games. Conference record is the first tie-breaker I believe, unless it is between two teams then it would be head-to-head…I could be wrong though.
If everyone worked as hard as me, I would be out of a job.

i beeen drinking the kook aid
time for everyone to have a little faith . the chiefs are getting better every week. two more drafts baby and we are in business. i figure if dorsey keeps playin the way hes playin and t jax snaps and we can get wilfork. its over your talking nasty d fense which means our line backers will be feasting of qb faces. and if we get our oline on track we will be dominant for years

A glass of reality
Tyson Jackon had ZERO tackles and only 1 assist in the Steelers game. If we want to keep all this good feeling going Jackson MUST progress.
Since his 7 tackle game against Jacksonville Jackson has only registered 1 tackle and 1 assist in two games. That’s pitiful. At this point in the season we should be seeing many more glimpses of hope/flashes. Dorsey was much further along in his rookie “bust” year than Jackson is at this point. I’m concerned

I believe he also had two passes defended.
One for sure, and I want to say he’s the one who tipped Studebaker’s first pick.
looks like Haley's getting it together
for the most part, as far as getting the players to believe in him & his philosophy. There’s still a long way for this team to go. There needs to be serious upgrades all over the roster, especially at safety & the interior o line. The defensive front 7 is starting to gel a bit, but if we can either aquire or develop another serious pass-rush threat, this D will be one to reckon with. Flowers will be an all-pro very soon, and Carr it seems has been servicable.
It also seems that a lot of this years draft is going to surface next year with guys like Javarris WIlliams & Colin Brown. In response to the previous post, Jackson has been servicable, and he has batted down a few passes if I remember correctly…..also, his job is to occupy blockers so the LBs can get tackles. He’s been holding his ground and he’s not getting pushed into the LBs. I’ think Jackson has been doing ok, and he’ll be a very good player sooner than you might expect.
Excellent
comparison to the Ravens game.
I never made the connection. Rec’d.
Ahhh
reading these posts have been soooo nice for the past day or so.
haha
this is awesome to read!!! Man o Man we beat the Steelers!!!! Hopefully they can keep it up GO CHIEFS!!!
