Already Weis' name is being linked to the Kansas City Chiefs, a team whose general manager, Scott Pioli, was the vice president of player personnel for the New England Patriots when Weis walked away as the high-profile offensive coordinator of the New England Patriots to become the head coach at his alma mater four years and 11 months ago.

Okay.

We’ll take him. Him and Romeo Crennel, please.

Would be interesting...

To see a Charlie Weis – Romeo Crennel reunion on the KC sidelines next year, although after their respective failures you have to wonder how much of their success was leeched off of Belichick.

I am torn.

I think we need to bring in an OC so Haley can concentrate on being the HC, but against Pitt he really matured a lot and his playcalling has gotten progressively better (or the players are finally executing). I do think to take that next step though he needs to bring in an OC this offseason. You have wonder whether Mo Carthon will take over duties though — he is a Haley guy while Weis is a Pioli guy.

I like our defense a LOT better under Pengergast than I did under Gunther and Herm, but there is still a lot of room for improvement and a bunch of potential. I think Pendergast is a good coach and he can stick around and coach LBs, I would gladly take Crennel as DC. But again, Haley guys vs. Pioli guys.

I think more likely we will see Mo Cathon at OC next year and Pendergast remaining at DC – both of which are Haley guys. If Pioli at some point decides to bring in his guys, we could definitely see a Weis-Crennel reunion.

Weis's offense isn't the problem at ND.

Their offense put up huge numbers against UConn.

Toby is in HR, which technically means he works for corporate, so he's really not a part of our family. Also, he's divorced, so he's really not a part of his family.

with Weis's and Crennell's failures away from NE

I don’t know if they will be better in KC. Maybe if they go back to focusing on one side of the ball they will.

Nah.

They ‘failed’ as head coaches. It’s the Peter Principle.

Put ‘em back at the spots where they excelled (and that got them the head coaching jobs in the first place) and they’ll be fine.

Exactly

being the Notre Dame head coach is a lot different than being an OC in the NFL (or NFL head coach for that matter).

I think Weis would be a good OC…just not sure if it’d work out since Haley used to work for Weis.

Predictions:

Kansas City will not win more than four games in 2009
Kansas City will have a new OC and DC in 2010
Kansas City will win at least seven games in 2010

Not to make a mountain out of a molehill

but I think it would have been a potential issue BEFORE yesterday’s game. I’m not saying a win over the Steelers makes Haley a proven coach or anything of the sort but what I am saying is that it at least lends credence to his style of coaching and says he’s at least doing SOME things right.

When you also look at the way Weis handled the loss to UConn it shows that he is a pragmatic, intelligent guy. A pragmatic, rational man coming off a terrible 5 year stint in the NCAA would be unlikely to disrespect Haley’s authority as our OC. At least that’s how I’m seein it.

Crennel and Weis are pretty abysmal HCs but as Coordinators they’ve proven to be more than capable.

Weis is a pretty damn good OC. As a Charger fan, I’d rather not see him end up in KC.

I still think Carthon is being groomed.

It's years like this that I wish I was a bear. Hibernation would make it so much easier.

Josh Looney put something about this on his Twitter last night, also.

My long, drawn-out predictions that no one cares about, nor will bother to remember:

1. Todd Haley will still be the Chiefs Head Coach up to the 2011 season.
2. Clancy Pendergast won't make it to the 2010 season and was never intended to. Last-minute hire for a position that needed to be filled.
3. Todd Haley will not be the OC at the start of the 2010 season.

Haley and Pioli will do what's best

whoever’s “guys” will win us the most games, in their opinion, that’s who we’ll get. they’ll do the right thing.

Love it

Things are in motion. Big win. Still need an OC. I like the Weis talk though. Gets media coverage for us and other oc’s thinking about this job. i’d take weis. Offense has never been problem in ND. Still not usre about Pendy. We need to evaluate in offseason. I’d like to see another playmaker on defense then let him get truly evaluated after following season.

I'd like to see how the remainder of the season plays out

for us defensively before I completely judge Pendergast (mostly just because I liked SOME of the things I saw in the game yesterday). As it stands right now though, I’d prefer Crennel to Master P
