Chiefs LB Tamba Hali Fined $5,000 for Roughing Raiders' Russell
According to a league spokesman, Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Tamba Hali has been fined $5,000 for a roughing the passer penalty against the Oakland Raiders.
Judging by the replay, the fine is a result of the NFL's crackdown on protecting quarterbacks, especially down by the knees.
With 2:38 left in the second quarter of the Chiefs 16-10 victory over the Raiders, Hali got past tackle Mario Henderson and dove at Russell as he threw causing an incomplete pass.
Hali was flagged for roughing the passer. However, Henderson was also called for offensive holding.
The penalties were offsetting and the down was played again.
A few weeks ago, linebacker Corey Mays was hit with a similar fine for hitting the Chargers Philip Rivers. Against the Giants, Jarrad Page was flagged for hitting a defenseless receiver. The call was questionable and the league office did not fine him. Against the Cowboys, a defender was flagged and fined for hitting a defenseless Bobby Wade.

Bullshit.
I’m tired of this whole ‘football is TOO VIOLENT’ movement by pussies who should be watching soccer or golf. Football is a violent sport. And EVERYONE in the NFL knows that if you do not wish your QB to become a concussion prone zombie, then draft a better O-line! It’s that simple and fuck anyone who tries to change it.

And it's worth noting
That any hit on Jamarcus Russell, no matter how huge, won’t affect his playing ability or career longevity.

Wow...now you have to be a pussy to play in the NFL.
Stupid rules like this just so the QBs dont get hit? Lets put a red jersey on the qb so everyone else knows when to stop.

I’m sure next time Hali’s on the ground he’ll think about this fine and decide not to go for the sack.

What a joke. The penalty was bogus and so is the fine. Maybe the NFL is still mad bout Tom Brady getting hurt last year. Tamba’s job is to get the QB down.

I get protecting the QB's but
this is getting ridiculous, starting with the concept of, knocked to the ground, MUST GET UP to hit the QB…so basically, you go down and you’re done? so weak…I get no helmets to the knee(rodney harrison to trent green) but cmon….he went high on his legs.

Indeed, it's crap.
They’ll have to stop and ask for Ben’s autograph this week before tackling him. Or maybe a count before the rush? No wonder we have so much trouble getting pressure on the QB, whenever we do get to them they fine us. I hate the officiating.

There's no such thing as roughing a Raider
Too bad the CBA doesnt’ allow the teams to pay these fines for the players and let the players keep playing football without deciding between keeping their paycheck and winning the game.

Under any other circumstance that's a clean hit
The rule has gotten pretty out of hand if you ask me. I understand, maybe a QB needs a little more protection, but to limit how a guy can hit them and where? Why not just make if flag football already and be done with it.
This isn't a "kum-bye-yah" campfire! THIS IS FOOTBALL!
