Around SBN: Fighters React to Nick Diaz's Positive Drug Test

Vrabel's injury a serious one? ... Yes, fairly serious. I think he'll miss 3-5 games.

Twitter / Kent Babb

Just talked about this but wanted to highlight that Vrabel could be out for a few weeks.

All things considered...

I think it is positive for our team to play some of these young linebackers at this stage anyway. We need to see what we have to we can draft accordingly.

Great point.

We would be kidding ourselves if we didn’t.

I think we know what we have in DJ by now

A decent player that can occasionally make big plays, then disappear the rest of the game.

Another blessing in disguise I believe

sure he’s a great leader and presence on the field, but Haley really needs to look at the personnel on this team and decide who we’re going to keep moving forward. Vrabel obviously isn’t the answer at LOLB so I’d be perectly content having him set out even the rest of the season if that means more reps for Studebaker or other reserves

Plus at the end of the season

Vrabel is going to be a FA.

For those saying this is positive...

I hear ya, but I disagree. Every time that man steps on the field he gives the Chiefs a better chance to win. The guys a stud. He tackles, he reads the offense and he leads. I was a critic saying he is to old etc when he got here but he has changed my mind. Sure the young guys need their shot, but for me, Vrabel will be missed.

Vrabel is an asset, for sure, but...

it’s not like we’re going to the playoffs. At some point it’s better to see what these kids have. And this is a good opportunity, as making the young players step up (injury) or outright earn the chance is much MUCH better than just handing them the job because their young (a la Herm Edwards), thus giving false entitlement and spawning laziness.

Save it

What about DJ? He’s also a player that gives the Chiefs a better chance to win every Sunday, not to mention he’s younger that hypothetically could have a future with this team.

Then he shouldn't have been disappearing in games.

I have no problem with the DJ benching because as a top 15 pick, he’s underperformed since he got here. He hasn’t been that explosive guy he was supposed to be for whatever reason. Hell, there were times I thought he was lost on the field. Bad scouting on him IMO. I don’t think him in or out really makes the difference in the outcome of a game.

No bad scouting involved

he was one of the top linebackers in his class that fell to us. It’s not like we overreached on a scouted prospect. He may have not lived up to his expectations, but he still performs better than 3/4 the LB’s on our roster.

Hard to say that with him on the bench

Previous seasons, sure, but our LB’s have been pretty bad looking back. Not hard to find a rock in a pile of shit.

see that I would ask Babb if I had twitter.

because we all have seen a change in studebaker..or at least I have…Id like to think part of that is Mike Vrabel…they say vets teaching young guys is overrated, I think it is if you have a vet who doesnt want to do it, or a young guy who doesnt want to hear it….Vrabel seems eager, as does Studebaker…

Just nice to see some guys like even a Lance Long who haley tried to run off, but…he was too tough for it….I respect that…and Studebaker is a tough kid, Im excited to see what he can do and we had to keep pierre around for a reason…

Studebaker

Said Vrabel was coaching him up on the sidelines last weekend. Here is a story on it.

by Joel Thorman on Nov 20, 2009 2:00 PM CST up reply actions

I wonder if Vrabel would be interested in coaching. Maybe he could be our LB coach down the line.

by bh13 on Nov 20, 2009 7:06 PM CST up reply actions

That's actually not a horrible idea

He’d be a good assistant LBs coach at the least I’d bet. Give him a chance to see if he’s good as a coach or not.

Bask in the glory that is Kwame Harris. Poor Alex...

Babb/Looney/AP

are seriously the chiefs new machine. I respect what looney does, Ive come to respect Babb…and who wouldnt love Arrowhead Pride..

huge tip from babb…3-5 weeks…wow, so what this does, is it gives us a nice window to evaluate our OLB’s this includes Studebaker and possibly Pierre Walters…

No one wants to say it? Conspiracy?!

Bowe and Vrabel out now after the schedule eases up a bit means less wins and more "draft" if you know what I'm saying...
