Short Post with a Poll

At midseason, We have some obvious holes to fill. What does AP feel is the most Glaring Need in the coming off-season. The Special teams has progressed well. We are set in the kicking game. Steve Hoffman should be a priority in retaining of coaches. "Gold Team" member here and proud of it :) Pioli and Haley will have many decisions to make. As I see it, We have coaches and players to replace/upgrade. What AP is the very first priority?

I tried to think of every option except replacing the Head Coach. Please feel free to add 2nd and 3rd priority as you feel is necessary :)

I voted O-line coach

Tough decision but with how horrible our O-line looks I want a good-great teacher to help these guys progress and with a couple of our (hopefuly top) draft picks going to be O-linemen the will need a knowledgable leader.

My second choice would be a steller D.C. along with a bonafide NT

I will prey along with you :) Good things will occur this off-season.

Or in proper perspective will be good things!

We Will kick at least 4 Teams Asses in 09
And Succop will be the Key in two of them. Washington & Oakland!

I'm torn between offense and defense

I really think we need a new D coordinator though so that is what I voted. We need a offensive coordinator as well but I think the defense gets the slight nod.

The safety gets a lot of press because we allow a lot of big plays, but I think a real Nose Tackle is what could really make our defense dominant. We need a big guy to spring our talented LBs on the pass rush.

Tough Call

But I voted OC. Let’s keep them on the field so that we can keep our defense off and put more points on the board. IMO, I just think that our defense would not look as bad if our time of possession goes up.

Did I miss an Obvious choose in the Poll?

Lots of things but I want a better DC.

He wasn’t good in Arizona and he ain’t good here.

We need an upgrade at DC no question, but I voted for OC

I think the team as a whole is suffering with so much of Haleys attention on the offense. A new Offensive Coordinator would not just help the offense, but hopefully would allow the entire team to benefit from their head coach.

by ChiefDJ on Nov 18, 2009 9:45 PM CST reply actions

I would have voted for that...

BUT…I don’t want a new scheme…I just want someone dedicated to it to help take some load off of Haley. The scheme will be fine once it is all together and too many teams change schemes so often, its ridiculous…

DJ didn't say a new Scheme? But some help to implement all the change and call

Haley out when he is being a Butthead. We/Me need that on on occasion.

Yeah not saying change the scheme

Haley just needs someone to take over calling the plays so he can concentrate on being a head coach. He can still keep his playbook.

by ChiefDJ on Nov 18, 2009 10:03 PM CST up reply actions

Yea...

I kind of misread the poll, not your comment….I thought the poll said the new OC stipulation came with a new scheme…

Apparently the three of us are in agreement…which is rare and beautiful.

That is an excellent comment, Thanks DJ

I voted safety.

You can coordinate this defense all you want, and then watch someone throw the ball right over it……

Too many of them for your poll :-)

On the coaching staff
OC(That Haley trusts), DC(3-4), QB-coach

Primary player personnel needs
C, NT, S, RT, P\KR

Seriously needed but not quite primary needs
Blocking-TE, OLB,

I'd call these pretty much mandatory

if we’re to get to .500 next year. Sad.

im thinking

Romeo crennel will be here next season fully recovered from his surgery. I’m fine with haley calling plays as long as he gets a QB coach to constantly work with the QB instead of splitting up his time between there and the defense. Remember some coaches are successful calling their own plays but they aren’t a QB coach either.

Either in FA or the draft the chiefd need some quality pick ups. On offense I still think we need atleast 1 big name lineman and a solid blocking TE

On defense we need a ball hawking safety that dosent get beat for huge plays. A dominating NT that can collapse the pocket from the middle. A speed rushing OLB to compliment hali on the other side. And I wud say a solid nickle CB because let’s face it leggett can’t cover anybody it seems like.

In the draft I would like to see (just rounds 1-3)
1) Safety/NT
2) O-line (G or T)
2) OLB/TE
3) Center

Of course everything in the draft depends on FA so my thoughts will probably change come next year.

I think

Fire Alarm needs: OC (help), DC, O-line coach, D-line coach, center or guard, Free Safety, TE

Needs: NT, Inside LB (possible 2), nickle corner, strong safety, kick returner, WR, center or guard

Eventual Upgrades: WR, RB, DE, ILB

Upgrade of depth: OT

I voted dc.

I remember when our offense was the best…. We still didn’t amount to much because our D couldn’t stop anybody.

by Kirk7 on Nov 19, 2009 11:56 AM CST reply actions

I think we need a pro bowl offensive line. The whole line. Pro bowlers.

You’ll win no less than 10 games ever with a great o line. Our d would be rested more and not so beat down and they wouldn’t have so much pressure whilst they are getting adjusted.

Just get us a Dick Vermeil line and you’ll see. Remember how we won 9-0 losing first to the bengals with a very very sub par defense. VERY sub par defense. When you score 40 points a game you don’t need a stellar defense.

by krayfish on Nov 19, 2009 7:19 PM CST reply actions

I Agree

yet we, with Dick, didn’t win dick postseason. A great )-line is in the works, not Roaf, Shields, Weigman, Waters, Uh, good guy.
The Chiefs want a Zone-blocking )-line ala Denver, but without a Line-coach like the guy now in Houston Gibb?. Won’t work and looks terrible.
Some balance is/was needed to make the team capable of winning against the Better/best teams.
Watched Indy and NE play. They weren’t worried about what they could do, but what they could attack vs the other. We need to learn how to do what WE can do and do it very well. Then, we can start worrying about defeating better teams that have small (infinitely small) weaknesses.
