But losing Bowe, even if temporary, casts a long shadow on the future. This will elicit questions about everything Bowe does as he moves forward. It will raise questions about whether Haley's conditioning regimen is too demanding of players, and whether it at least tempts them to turn to shortcuts. It will raise questions about this team's discipline and judgment. Regardless of how those questions are answered, this cruel fact remains: A core member of the Chiefs future has made a colossal lapse in judgment, and it will leave a stain on his career.

* "I doubt anyone will miss Connor Barth except UCrawford"
* the LB corps may become the biggest strength of the Chiefs in 2009
* The OL is NOT as bad as you think it is... give it time, and you'll see improvement this season
* Stats are for losers
don't think it's that big a deal..
sorry.
anyone remember when Favre was addicted to painkillers? how many times is that still brought up? mountain out of a molehill.
My long, drawn-out predictions that no one cares about, nor will bother to remember:
1. Todd Haley will still be the Chiefs Head Coach up to the 2011 season.
2. Clancy Pendergast won't make it to the 2010 season and was never intended to. Last-minute hire for a position that needed to be filled.
3. Todd Haley will not be the OC at the start of the 2010 season.
I'm not sure the two are the same thing though
Painkillers aren’t “performance enhancing” or used as a masking agent for other drugs.

You are right, they are not the same
Neither are performance enhancers. Painkillers would be the closest to a performance enhancer compared to what D-Bowe took which was a diuretic. Painkillers allow an athlete to play through pain and lift the heavy weights in a gym easier. A diuretic is only used in conjunction to weight loss, which generally makes you weaker sometimes significantly weaker. Comparing performance enhancers to painkillers and diuretics is like comparing the Flintstones pill to a few milliliters of liquid Anadrol. Sorry to be captain obvious, it is just that D-Bowe did not take a performance enhancer.
I bet you Bowe will come back to practice after his suspension is over and appologize to everybody
no biggy, Bowe loves the game and is a good guy. This isnt that bad, he will still be great and a team leader.

Before you judge a man, walk a mile in his shoes; after that, who cares?! He's a mile away and you've got his shoes!

I mean look at Sean Merriman
He actually DID take steroids, ended Priest Holmes’ career, and even worse, dated Tila Tequila. And he’s still considered a great linebacker. Bowe will be fine.
Bowe
I’m still troubled by his lack of development. It’s going to be his 4th year next year (right?)… and I feel like we have another DJ on our hands. How long is too long before the player hasn’t upped his game and is then viewed as worthless by the league?
I can’t believe I’m saying this but I think if we can get a high 2nd Rd draft pick for him, pull the trigger.
By Chiefs standards he’s the best receiver, but I think at least 15-20 NFL teams would not see him as a #1 receiver if he were to join their squad.
I think his little "Bowe Show" has been a bit pre-emptive and he’s been a bit of an underachiever (just my opinion).
I clearly see a WR whose perception of himself conflicts a bit with reality. If Todd Haley wants to take him on as a "project," spending one-on-one time with him for the next 3 years with no guarantee he propels himself into a clear-cut #1 WR, I just think it may be a waste of time. Everyone thought his mistakes would have been fixed by now, but they continue to happen with a concerning frequency.
What in gods name are you talking about?! Lol.
Next year will be his 4th season. His rookie season he was 5 yards shy of breaking 1000 yards with 5 tds. His 2nd season (the season that TG said is the worst year for everybody) he had 1022 yards and 7 tds. Id say thats pretty damn good. A high 2nd rounder is pathetic. He is worth a 1st, hands down.
You have to consider our OL too…If they dont give Cassel time to throw the ball then Bowe will never get it. But he is not an underachiever, trust me. He will be fine.

what might those mistakes be?

Dropped balls, lining up in the wrong formations
Need I name more? He’s in his 3rd year this year (which he is now missing 4 games of), and is making rookie mistakes. I’ve been reading up on old scouting reports and several of them say he will develop into a “#2 Receiver”. I just think his perception of himself as a star receiver conflicts with the reality — that he is an above average WR but by no means an elite option.
When we talk about the right 53, I dont think we’re talking about egos. I’m just saying that he might pose a problem for Scott Haley in the future. Also trying to drum up some conversation…it’s a slow day. :)
And by ego, I mean him referring to himself as "The Bowe Show"
…sure, it’s not a problem now, but I think they’re being extra vigilant about guys who might get too heady.
I prefer this nickname to "The bowe show":

Dont worry im not trying to start an arguement so dont take anything the wrong way.
But he has had some dropped balls yes, but he also is having to get used to ANOTHER qb. He was showing chemistry with Cassel last week and thats a good thing. Peyton never had chemistry right off the bat with Wayne or Harrison….it takes time, not just 8 games (Bowe missed a game).
Lining up in the wrong formation? Ok, that happened ONCE. That isn’t that big of a deal. But other than dropping balls and “lining up wrong” what else has he done?
Has he shown he can beat the best CB in the league? Yes. Has he shown that even when he is double teamed (hell, even triple coverage) he can still catch TD passes? Yes.
How will Bowe pose a problem for Haley? He is nowhere near what LJ was like, as far as thinking himself as a star.
And as far as the bowe show…was he the one that started that? Or the announcers?

HAHAHAHAHAH
that is pretty damn funny though. Maybe they wanted to do that for fun…doesnt mean bowe wanted them to :) lol, Thats funny though

Agreed
Bowe is fine
Maybe on a Great team he is #2.
But he is the Best Chiefs receiver, who made a mistake.
The league needs to use those Millions in fines to determine
a weight issue and a drug issue.
Question: on a league suspension does Bowe lose 4 paychecks?
We Will kick at least 4 Teams Asses in 09
And Succop will be the Key in two of them. Washington & Oakland!

Whoa.
WR’s generally don’t come into their own until their 3rd year (Which he is in) and he’s been arguably one of the most prolific recievers in his first 2 years since Randy Moss. The only recievers that have comparable numbers are Megatron and Larry Fitz. Pretty good company. All this with sketchy QB play

I already "forgiven" him per se
I believe it was a bad decision and not a relfection of his character. He’s still young and playful, but I believe when he matures (especially a huge jump of maturity from learning through this incident) he will be a much better person from it.
He made a mistake and will pay for it through a 4 game suspension and get villified by media and the “angry mob”, It sucks the Chiefs had to take a blow from his mistake. But I rather it be a mistake than an INTENTIONAL selfish action or repeat offenses.
People have the right to be mad at him, but I don’t think he deserves a grudge to be put on him because of this.
The next best thing for the Chiefs is to rally as a TEAM and have people step up as needed to still win games (not just to “save the season”). There’s a silver lining on this…and a dwayne bowe! (can’t help it) :]
Reminds me of Jared Allen
Two DUIs or taking a Diuretic to pass Haley’s conditioning program. Which is worse? I’m not sure. I just hope we don’t get scared off and part ways like we did with Jared Allen. We all know how that ended up…

Dumbest effing article yet
What an idiot. Trying to blame Haley for wanting his players to be in top condition tells us far more about the writer than anything else. Someone needs to smack this guy upside the head and hope it acts as a reset button. I wouldn’t let this guy drive, own a gun or cross the street on his own.
I don't think hes blaming him
Hes just saying it should be questioned if Haley has added to much internal pressure on these players. Not saying I agree or disagree with it. Its a valid question although there is certainly no excuse for what Bowe did. It was really stupid

How could Haley's conditioning put too much pressure on these guys?
They’re professionals, right? If they can’t handle Haley’s conditioning how the blue hell can they handle playing a game so violent it literally shortens the lifespan of the guys who play it?
I am amazed a “professional” athletes like Bowe who don’t have the discipline to eat right and do their conditioning. Glen Dorsey almost ate himself out of the NFL.
Toby is in HR, which technically means he works for corporate, so he's really not a part of our family. Also, he's divorced, so he's really not a part of his family.
Bowe wasn't headed to the HOF
He will be fine…There isn’t a stain on his future. Maybe Bowe needs to take some pills to grow spidey hands so he can CATCH THE F%^&IN BALL!!
