"this is how the Chiefs lined up to open passing routes. Chambers, Long, Pope and Bowe"

I take 3 things from this one quote:
* Lance Long remains the guy at the Slot Position
* Mark Bradley is likely to be the odd man out, and inactive on Sunday
* Leonard Pope may be seeing more time at TE, and working himself into the passing game

As expected.

You could definitely do worse at reserve WR than Bradley though.

A man who says he can, and a man who says he can't are both right. Which one are you?

yep.

I like Bradley… I have been hoping for more out of him, ever since that big catch earlier in the year.

He had a good season last year

when healthy. Haley must not like him, not one of the “right 53”.

I think he likes him ok...

he’s still here, right?

A lot of guys have come and gone, and Bradly is part of the 53…

Just hasn’t got consistent production or looks this season… probably more a product of guys like Wade, Chambers and Long stepping up, rather than Bradley being in any kind of “doghouse”

Boy, I don't know...

Didn’t Bradley have a big drop in one of the first few games? Or didn’t get out of bounds…or something? It was early in the season. But, I remember Haley being pissed about it. Seems like since then, we haven’t heard his name much.

by Scott B. on Nov 13, 2009 3:05 PM CST up reply actions

didn't get a first down, cut his route short

but, he did have a 45yd catch, where he made a nice adjustment and caught it in traffic

I think that was it

I just remember Haley being pissed at him. Didn’t he bench him for that? Or not give him the start? Before Wade got here?

Sorry for the memory fog. But, it has been a forgettable season so far.

by Scott B. on Nov 13, 2009 3:09 PM CST up reply actions

yeah, he was upset about it

but, that shouldn’t keep him down all year

True

It shouldn’t. But, it’s seems like it has. Might be just my perception of it.

by Scott B. on Nov 13, 2009 3:29 PM CST up reply actions

He never makes HUGE mistakes...

I think its just because Bowe, Wade, and Long are all getting shots more from Cassel, and to add to that we just got Chambers. When Bradley gets thrown to i almost always see him catch the ball, even the ones that are horribly thrown. I dont think its a production issue…just more of a Cassel not throwing towards him kind of thing…IMO.

by Wrestler189s on Nov 13, 2009 4:36 PM CST up reply actions

That's not my impression.

I see him not getting much separation and being inconsistent when targeted. Doesn’t mean I’m right. Just sharing impressions.

No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.

Excellent

I'll take that bet, you're gonna regret, cause Haley's the best that's ever been...

Predicted outcome for the Raidaaa's goes a little something like this:

UCrawford bowed his head because he knew JaMarcus had been beat.
He laid that golden sig line on his profile at Lucas's feet.
Haley said: "UCrawford just come on back if you ever want to try again.
"I told you once, you son of a bitch, I'm the best that's ever been."

Pope has been here for a while now...

he should have already been contributing. I hope he upgrades the position somehow….he dont have a whole lot of competition.

Pope's not much of a blocker

Maybe more of a spread offense?

None of the TE are much for blocking.

Maybe it will take them longer to run around Pope though.

by Helmets on Nov 13, 2009 3:20 PM CST up reply actions

I hope so

I liked our spread offense from last year. It was pretty productive and exciting to watch.

I do think our D is better than last year and getting better as the year goes on. I think with a more productive offense that stays out on the field longer we may start being legitmately competitive.

I would love to see Pope in the passing game more...

Obviously the Chiefs passing game has long been helped by the best TE to play the game and with him gone that gave opposing teams 1 less thing (of a short list) that they have to worry about this year.

I would hope he can use his 9 foot 17 inch height to his advantage, both in the passing game and blocking.

Go Chiefs!

HE NEVER WILL EVER.

GET THIS THROUGH YOUR HEAD’S EVERYONE!!!!

Pope is not a good player. He is VERY VERY athletic, but that’s it.

He has terrible hands.
He can’t block.
He can’t run routes.

Why he is on this team we will never know. He had the same problems in zona. Ryan has been a proven receiver (although he seems to be dropping a bunch recently), and COTTAM should be playing. He was catching crap that was thrown to him last year, what changed? Our QB got a little more accurate (still isn’t accurate and can’t make the deep throws ever). That’s it. We should have Cottam play.

by EyePod on Nov 13, 2009 5:06 PM CST up reply actions

I never said he can't run

I said he can’t run routes. He was picked because he jumps ridiculously. Imagine being head coach and thinking, wow, this guy jumps higher than LARRY FREAKING FITZGERALD. Yes, he actually does. Any coach would think that he could work with him, just throw it high in the endzone and he is a great red zone threat. But no, He sucks at catching and has trouble getting to where you want him to go and how he’s supposed to get there.

by EyePod on Nov 13, 2009 6:02 PM CST up reply actions

If someone were to have told me at the beginning of the season

that we’d have Bowe, Chambers, Pope and Wade as a reserve WR, I would have been doing back flips. Goes to show you how good players can get lost on bad teams (i.e. Randy Moss)

by jonnyu on Nov 13, 2009 4:31 PM CST reply actions

Why are you excited about Pope?

The dude hasn’t done anything. (sorry if i come off as an ass…not meaning to lol)

by Wrestler189s on Nov 13, 2009 4:38 PM CST up reply actions

Thinking the same thing.

Was cut from Arizona where they needed a TE and has done absolutely nothing here. Not sure what is contribution is. Where are Cottam and O’Connell? I thought Cottam could at least block? Understanding that having Ryan on the bench is an automatic upgrade, but Pope isn’t a plus.

I remember Dawson to Taylor, Kenney to Carson, and Blackledge catching the snap in his facemask. Seen it all...

by BinSC on Nov 13, 2009 4:41 PM CST up reply actions

Exactly

Ryan has been OK so far, but he’s made some big drops and missed some huge blocks. Why not let Cottam have a shot? He hasn’t played all season. Give him a shot and see what he can do, i bet he will be better than Ryan is.

by Wrestler189s on Nov 13, 2009 4:51 PM CST up reply actions

Cottam can't block

Or at least he was drafted as an offensive weapon. He was supposed to be tutored by Tony on the naunces of blocking, but well, you know what happened there. He was taken for his receiving capabilities. That guy who smoked pot in Florida was according to herm “the best blocker he’s ever seen” or something close to that.

by EyePod on Nov 13, 2009 5:07 PM CST up reply actions

Yeah, I can’t remember his name. But he was supposed to be the best blocking TE ever. it was something with a B…

Thanks for the shot, stagdsp.

Quick semi-retraction of what I saw of Kenny Smith last Sunday – Actually very little. Just noticed his number few times on the first watch and on the 2nd time around, saw him the same # of times, so he wasn’t in there a whole lot and I caught him pretty much every time he was on the field the first time I watched the game.

Still, the d-line performed better overall, and I think the presence of Smith says the Chiefs are pretty much done with the 4-3 looks. They’re pretty much sticking with the 3-4 on 1st and 2nd and 2-4-5 on passing downs.

No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.

by hmills110 on Nov 13, 2009 7:38 PM CST reply actions

agreed

it’s good to know that Smith is doing ok in his role, giving Edwards a breather

I think the DL is looking good, and the 3-4 transition is set.
NOW, get the DBs playing better, and get a little more out of the LBs…
then we’re talking!
