Chiefs WR Lance Long is drawing comparisons to Wes Welker in Kansas City, most notably from quarterback Matt Cassel who played with Welker in New England. "He's a great slot receiver," Cassel said of Long. "He's got tremendous quickness, he gets in and out of his breaks well, he catches the ball, he’s a tough guy."
I remember writing a fan post a while back about Lance Long and comparing the start of his career to that of Welker's. Though I do like the comparisons, I think it's way to early to put him and Wes Welker's name in the same sentence. I wanna see how he progresses from game to game and getting hit over the middle, etc. That will tell us something about this kid and going into the offseason whether we can be excited as hell about him or worrying if he'll make it through camp in 2010.

If I've said this once, I've said it a million times
THEY ARE BOTH WHITE WHICH IS THE ONLY REASON THEY ARE COMPARED.
Why isn’t Hines Ward ever compared to Wes Welker? Aren’t they both slot type recievers?
But white recievers always have to be compared to other white recievers.

I see where you're coming from, Craig
but I think it might have as much to do with the idea that Welker has been a very productive player for the Patriots – and nobody expected it. Therefore, when Pioli signs another little guy that isn’t on the big radar screens – yes, a white guy – the comparisons start.

Yep Big difference between a Wes Welker and Hines Ward "type"
BESIDES the whole black/white thing.
I think Lance Long looks more like Wayne Chrebet than anybody. (Yea I know, another white WR)
