Assistant for a day...

Ok fans, I am unofficially giving each one of you the opportunity to be Todd Haley's assistant for one day.  With this reward you will have the chance to make one significant change to this team.  You cannot fire Haley since you are an assistant, but everything else is subject to change.  The rules are you can only make one change.  It can be personnel, scheme, assistant coaches or even body wash in the showers.  It can be a trade to another team, but be careful what you trade away.  I think with all the back and forth on state of the team right now, this would be an interesting way to find out, what everybody thinks might be the biggest issue facing the team.  So with that lets have some fun on this Friday the 13th and see what everyone thinks!

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Arrowhead Pride's writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Arrowhead Pride writers or editors.

Makes me wonder who would be better between Smith and Alleman at Center

Winning begins with Attitude - Haley and Pioli will be winners in KC!

Offense

i would definately take some time working witht he offense to increase our o-lines run blocking ability, and increase the number of running plays, with that LJ gone, its time for Charles and Smith to step up their game, and when we use the threats at our running game, our deep threat ability increases, Cassel has the deep threat arm, and we got at least 2 wr’s (bowe/chambers) that have the big catch ability

by chiefsfan64055 on Nov 13, 2009 10:31 AM CST reply actions

I would.....

Be fired right away…..

Because I would go out and hire a new Offensive Coordinator.

Al Saunders would be making his comeback. He could retire with the Chiefs and show Haley how it is done in Kansas City.

And since some are making two moves in the area….I would go ahead and fire Clancy and bring in Brian Billick to be Defensive Coordinator and Assistant Head Coach.

With Billick and Saunders, Haley should have every opportunity in the world to succeed.

I dont know why each of those choices wouldnt work :)

It would seem having those two guys would take so much pressure off Haley that he would become Mr Rodgers in his own Neighborhood.

I would think so...

Did you know Al Saunders was the Offensive Consultant with the Baltimore Ravens…..I wished he had the same role with us…..

There are so many coaches out there that I wished we had….even as consultants…….like Dennis Green, John Gruden, Marty Schottenheimer, Al Saunders, Bill Cowher, Mike Shanahan, Tony Dungy, and the list goes on and on. Any of these guys would be wonderful to have around. Right now we dont have anybody that has NFL coaching experience…..

I would start the underperforming LB from Texas

Haley told the offense to run it again. When someone said the defense already knows the play he responded, "So what, make it work."

by Jay Cotton on Nov 13, 2009 10:43 AM CST reply actions

I would change that to underplayed

But I agree…..

Cute idea, Lanier63

Just one change?

Mine would be to start Morgan instead of Brown. I get the leadership and experience thing… but you still have to be able to make plays. Two losses in this season are squarely on Mike Brown’s shoulders. Sorry, fella.

If I got another, I’d bring back the freaking I formation and get Mike Cox back on the damn field more often.

Tyson Jackson at Full Back at least on goal line plays

al the Fridge

I'll take that bet, you're gonna regret, cause Haley's the best that's ever been...

Predicted outcome for the Raidaaa's goes a little something like this:

UCrawford bowed his head because he knew JaMarcus had been beat.
He laid that golden sig line on his profile at Lucas's feet.
Haley said: "UCrawford just come on back if you ever want to try again.
"I told you once, you son of a bitch, I'm the best that's ever been."

by cpa913 on Nov 13, 2009 11:38 AM CST reply actions

I think you'd need 2 Tyson Jacksons to equal the Fridge

They have used Ron Edwards as a fullback a time or two.

Secondary changes

Put the conrners up on the line of scrimmage and hit the WRs in the mouth on every damn play. It seems like we’re always either in zone or the CBs are 10 yards off the line of scrimmage. I’d have McGraw and Morgan start at safety and their only job would be to stop big plays. On run plays make sure you can get anyone who breaks through containment there by only giving up a 10-15 yard run instead of a 40+. On passing plays you watch for WRs who beat their CB since the CBs will be playing so tight on them at the line of scrimmage.

Feeling "The Love" and "Drinking the Kool AId"

by KCporkchop on Nov 13, 2009 12:25 PM CST reply actions

Almost exactly what I would've said, KCporkchop.

Defenses that are successful in the league, today, REDIRECT THE ROUTES. NObody gets off the line free to run where he wants to run.

Not sure McGraw is “the guy” you want preventing the big play. I’d rather see him up delivering a hit at the LOS and doing most of his playing up near the line. He’s lightning-fast as an honorary member of the front 7 and tortoise-slow as the last line of defense in space. He has a nose for the ball and is smart enough to take on a blocker, time-to-time, to free up a LB. Against big-n-fast WRs, especially, I’d rather see Flowers in a safety role, with somebody bigger in front of him delivering a jam and giving him a head-start and a heads-up. He’s also brilliant at shedding blockers and making better-than-textbook tackles. And much as I like him, he’s not quite a complete shutdown corner. But with some cushion letting him watch the whole play and do what his eyes tell him, rather than possibly being mismatched against a bigger AND faster WR in unconvincing press formation.

I think Carr should just play inside leverage all day long and simply stick to his man. If he can keep inside position on his guy, and FOCUS on defending just his guy, he can frustrate most WRs, imo. As for the rest of the jamming idea, it should be aggressive and always in such a way that Flowers and/or Morgan KNOW the intended redirect and work WITH the jammers.

No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.

by hmills110 on Nov 13, 2009 8:47 PM CST up reply actions

make no mistake

I don’t think McGraw is the man, but if I have to pick 2 starting safeties out of McGraw, Morgan, and Brown, then I’m leaving Brown out. Interesting thought on having Flowers back there. What I don’t understand is if two bloggers can come up with this why can’t our DC? Seriously, our coverage has been HORRIBLE. Why wouldn’t you at least try jamming up the WRs? The worst that can happen is we suck and give up the same big plays we are in zone or playing off.

Feeling "The Love" and "Drinking the Kool AId"

by KCporkchop on Nov 13, 2009 9:18 PM CST up reply actions

Actually....

I would have totally been on board with this in weeks 1-4 of the season, but not today.

Redirecting the routes to the inside is designed to give your LB’s a chance to make a play on the ball and to funnel the receivers in tword the safeties in the middle so they can play both pass and run.

With how bad our safety play has been I’m not so sure I want the corners playing up on the line in a strog fists man2man counting on the safeties behind them to be in position to make a play/tackle.

With how terrible our safetly play has been I eould be advocating moving the corners back 5-6 yards OFF the line of scrimmage and playing more zone stuff on the outsides. That would at least give the safety the knowledge of where they need to be to protect their zone.

I realize that it hasn’t worked for us so far, but I think changing it now with the personnel we have on the field at safety if likely to make it worse instead of better. /sadpanda

Cox showed some ball skills, snatching the pass with good hands against Jax.

He wasn’t in position to do anything with it, but showed better hands than T-Rich did as a Chief. More of an athlete in that respect. I can easily see him becoming a nice threat chipping the pass-rusher and threatening the screen from time to time.

But he’s been pretty unconvincing as a lead-blocker between the tackles (or anywhere else, imo). Pretty much priority 1 for a FB.

No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.

by hmills110 on Nov 13, 2009 8:52 PM CST up reply actions

Most FB can take some credit on some awesome blocks…..or make sure our RB get the space they need. Cox has kinda been in the shadows not really doing anything to note.

but you know… the bar was set pretty high! I think it’s fair to say that Cox has been underused, and I also think it’s fair to say he hasn’t been utilized properly. That’s the basis of my suggestion: let’s see the I more often.
