9 hurries in 8 games with no sacks isnt going to make sportscenter.

no but a 3-4 d ends job isn't to get sacks.
UCrawford will eventually calm down and realize that Haley isn't a bad coach.
Will embrace the Fire Haley Bandwagon if we lose to the raiders by more then a TD...
..But we aren't going to lose.
LJ will not land in Pittsburgh
The Chiefs will not be the number one pick in this years draft
The Chiefs first pick of the draft will NOT be a OL
Thinks UCrawford just needs a hug... offer is there when you are ready UC :p

Tamba Hali
Last year Hali played with a cut in his face ! This year ; you are seeing a man who has transformed ! The defense is come-ing together ! Beat the Raiders !

Ron Edwards
has not been a starter all the time. So for him to be tied with Dorsey…

well I don't believe the defense is coming together...
our stats and our record don’t hold true to that statement. I do believe that with the correct defensive coordinator we could be much better on D. Pendergast needs to get fired after this year.
by krayfish on Nov 13, 2009 7:28 AM CST reply actions 1 recs
It will happen slowly
Now I am not saying that Pendergast or the coaches are doing it but we should see steady improvement, at least from the defensive line. Remember Dorsey is in a new position but he is on pace to have more tackles than last year. I also frequently see him getting more penetration than he did last year and he often helps flush the QB out of the pocket and over to TJ’s side. If TJ continues to grow there will be no where for the QB to go.
Dorsey also is opening things up for Tamba coming off the edge. I am hoping o see Dorsey have a nice 2nd half and i hope that TJ can build on his performance last week.

Your statements make me think back to the hiring of the Def Coaches
If I remember, no Def Coord was named immediately which leads me to believe Pioli/Haley didn’t get the man they wanted and will address this situation in January. In other words we settled for what we could get at the time. Bad decision? probably.

They wanted Romeo Crennel, who wanted a year off. They’ll get him this off-season though.

I would meet somewhere in the middle and say..
Our front 7 is coming together. Our secondary is getting beat like a pinata.

or is it the lack of production from the safety positions making the secondary bad?

+10
Our safeties have been absolutely awful and you could add to that the nickel position although thats been a bit better as of late.

Does anyon else wonder what would happen
if we replaced Vrabel with DJ? I know Vrabel is solid over there but I would think DJ is much better at rushing the passer than Vrabel.
Wouldn’t help to bring in DJ in on passing situations to rush him off the edge? I feel like having him as a legitimate threat if we rush 5 would help Tamba’s chances as well.

I don't know
DJ cannot take on the blocks like Vrabel. In regard to the rush…maybe. I can see in a couple of year Hali switching over to the left side (more of a run stop OLB) and them getting a little quicker ROLB.

Okay, what does it say about this team that QB pressures is the stat mentioned rather than sacks.
by BCRavenJHawkfan on Nov 13, 2009 8:11 AM CST reply actions 0 recs
we only got 10 sacks

Im most impressed by DJs 3 pressures
considering he has only been allowed to play like 3 times. Its just like the LJ situation. Everyone but the coach could see the better option was sitting on the bench. (ie Charles/Savage/My Grandma) Im going to name these situations, “The Gannon Effect.” And poor DJ has been “Gannoned.”
by Bono Bootleg on Nov 13, 2009 8:15 AM CST reply actions 0 recs
DJ is not good if
you run right at him. He does not fill consistent enough, and with force. He is a scrape linebacker that can run down plays. I don’t think the coaching staff is looking for a 4-3 scrape linebacker. Just my opinion.

by Bewsaf on Nov 13, 2009 8:39 AM CST up reply actions 0 recs
Exactly
Haley wants guys like Corey Mays that can step and fill the gaps with power. DJ would much rather chase a runner than meet him head on. That is why he is on the bench. Demorrio used to be the same way, but he has really stepped it up and is playing like a good all-around MLB. Is Demorrio better than DJ talent-wise? No. But he is willing to fill the gaps hard on every play and it has really paid dividends for him.
by Nick Britt on Nov 13, 2009 9:11 AM CST up reply actions 1 recs
I think that is why Demorrio gets the start over DJ
He fills the hole a little better. But I also think they will look to replace him.
With my opinion about DJ and the coaches…I have wondered why he has not been traded yet to get something for him.

You obviously werent watching the last couple games
Demorrio missed alot of tackles @ Jax and DJ has been getting more and more playing because of it.

Just might say something about ...
… the others
by Hank44 on Nov 13, 2009 8:39 AM CST reply actions 0 recs
No...
I am not surprised. He was a 2 x All-American that got drafted high and got paid a lot of money… so he decided to sit back and try to play based off his talent and not work ethic. He discovered he can not do that in the NFL… got back in shape and now his work ethic/talent is starting to show.
I like Glen Dorsey a lot. Him and Tyson will be a very good combo for us, they just need to mature in the NFL.
by SwimCoach on Nov 13, 2009 9:11 AM CST reply actions 0 recs
just for gods sakes keep them around and dont trade them away...
im tired of giving away high draft picks and then having them be probowlers somewhere else.. we just need to get better as a team, then they will shine

I am more suprised that Tyson Jackson is no where to be found
you’d think a #1 draft pick would be somewhere on a list like this
by Bearson on Nov 13, 2009 9:21 AM CST reply actions 0 recs
check this list next year
* "I doubt anyone will miss Connor Barth except UCrawford"
* the LB corps may become the biggest strength of the Chiefs in 2009
* The OL is NOT as bad as you think it is... give it time, and you'll see improvement this season

You wouldn't think so
If you realized D linemen rarely do much the first year. Realistic expectations please.
Chiefs go 9-7. LJ makes 1400 yards. DBowe makes 1200 yards. Defense #18.
10/28--The Koolaid buzz is beginning to wear off. Maybe drop this back to my original thoughts on the year. Chiefs go 6-10 (and that my be optimistic!). LJ gets a restraining order to stay 1400 yards away from the Chiefs. I'll let the rest stand for now.

9 pressures from a 3-4 DE is tied for 5th in the NFL at that position
Not too shabby

Wilfork has 7, for comparison
Richard Semour has 10
Dorsey is also tied for 4th among 3-4 DEs in number of tackles

Im sure it mainly coaching...
But common guys….stag? I know your quite the optimist around here but sending a link to prove how “good” they are doing, only to open the link and it says Dorsey is the 4th worst 3-4 DE and Jackson is the worst?

I see what you're saying...
but the question was about QB hurries, and in that category Dorsey is doing well.
I also don’t necessarily buy their “overall ratings” as an indicator of who is a “good or bad” player.

* the LB corps may become the biggest strength of the Chiefs in 2009
* The OL is NOT as bad as you think it is... give it time, and you'll see improvement this season

Chicks love Chiefs
That list also has Elvis Dumerivile like 15th in the league for 3-4 OLB. Tamba is like 17th. Those lists are bogus. We need a NT, period.
