Time For A Offseason Over Haul

Its time for another over haul this season so im going to break down what I think is going to happen.

First of all im going to go like always is every season. Re signings then free agency then the draft.

Key Players Re signings

Mike Vrable Out Side Linebacker: Let him go he did what he came here to do he gave us leadership and a sturdy job at linebacker.

Kolby Smith Running Back:Let him go there's no room for him here I liked his attitude but there's just no room for him.

Brodie Croyle Quarterback: sign him hes a good quarterback who gets the ball out quick and has a good arm.

Derrick Johnson Inside/outside linebacker Undecided

Mark Bradley Receiver: Cut him just like Kolby theres no room for him. And whe have a strong receiving core with Lance Long, Dwayne Bowe, Bobby Wade, Chris Chambers, Devard Darling

Bobby Wade Sign him 2 year deal.

Chris Chambers Sign Him 1 year deal.

Cuts

Mike Goff

Mike Brown

David Herron or Corey Mays

Sean Ryan To many drops and horrid blocking.

Free Agents

Ben Watson Tight End New England Patriots

Mike Bell Running Back New Orleans or Kevin Faulk of New England

Jason Spitz Green Bay Guard/Center

Richie Incognito St Louis Rams Guard/Center

Jason Ferguson Miami Nose Tackle

Mock Draft

First Round of the 2010 NFL draft the Kansas City Chiefs select  Eric Berry of Tennesse Hooray!!!!

Scott knows to have a good defense you need an elite safety like Rodney Harrison of New England or Brandon Merriweather.

Second Round the Kansas City Chiefs select Patrick Robinson Corner Back out a of Florida State.

Im pretty sure Scott watches the games so I bet he sees how every week Brandon Carr, Maurice Leggett and Mike no name Richardson gets blown up.

Second Round the Kansas City Chiefs select Ciron Black Offensive Tackle LSU

Scott wants to protect his 65 Million Dollar quarterback.

3rd round The Kansas City Chiefs select Jason Fox Miami Offensive Tackle

Scott Adds quality depth to his offensive line and a captain for the hurricanes.

The Kansas City Chiefs select John Jerry Mississippi OG/OT

Scott keeps adding massive and good lineman to his team.

Fourth Round The Kansas City Chiefs select Toby Gerhart Stanford

Scott Adds a machine and a guy who takes 3 men to take him down and is not a quitter like 2.7.

5th Round the Kansas City Chiefs Select Colin Peek Alabama Tight End

Scott Adds Depth and a big body with good hands for the offense.

5th Round the Kansas City Chiefs Select Darryl Sharpton Miami  Outside/Inside Linebacker

Scott Adds depth to a core of Kansas City linebackers.

5th Round the Kansas City Chiefs Select Jay Ross East Carolina Nose tackle

Scott Adds a big run stuffer and 3 down lineman.

nice post

just i think they should bring back Vrabel, not just for D but isnt he the leading TE in touchdowns on our team?

I disagree on

Kolby Smith, Mark Bradley (who is far superior than Darling), and no way in hell Jason Fox falls to Round 3

Welcome to Chiefs REBUILD - Version 2.0 /The Clark Hunt Edition
Chiefs will be lucky to go 4-12 in 2010

by KansasCityShuffle on Nov 12, 2009 7:12 PM CST reply actions

agreed, shuffle

Fox is a mid to high 2nd rounder, probably

Plus… why not take a CENTER instead of a 2nd Tackle?

* "I doubt anyone will miss Connor Barth except UCrawford"
* the LB corps may become the biggest strength of the Chiefs in 2009
* The OL is NOT as bad as you think it is... give it time, and you'll see improvement this season

Agreed take a center...the center is the heart of the line for God sakes..

as we’ve all seen this year…it kills your offense when your center hikes the ball and falls backwards into your QB

by krayfish on Nov 13, 2009 7:20 AM CST up reply actions

Cut Kolby?

Kolby Smith is a great runner, with a good mind set. He knows his role and he has proven he can be a good back in this league. How can you say cut him and then sign Kevin Faulk? He’s so old and the last thing we need to do is get rid of our young backs and add an older runner, who has less gas left in the tank than LJ.

by KCCHIEFSfan 82 on Nov 12, 2009 7:35 PM CST reply actions

Don't know that Faulk is no good anymore or doesn't have another season in him, but...

I tend to agree with you on the decision. An older RB is risky in every regard except price tag – likely higher than a younger no-name, with about the same odds of success.

No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.

Nice post I would keep Mays as a Backup ILB

We Will kick at least 4 Teams Asses in 09
And Succop will be the Key in two of them.

I’d offer Johnson a second round tender and trade his rights for a 3rd round pick.
Resign Vrable, Croyle, Smith, Chambers, Wade, David Herron and Corey Mays.

Let Bradley, Goff, Brown, Ryan walk.

Watson, or Crumpler TE
Incognito and Spitz at G makes sense
Ferguson? Why not Wilfork, NE drafted Brace to let him walk, or Hampton?
Seymour anyone?

I could live with Black and Fox in round 2 giving us Bookend tackles, if we could take Suh in round 1, and trade Dorsey for a 1st and a fourth, taking a corner or if he’s available Mays or Berry with the Dorsey pick in the first and a center in the fourth. Our Guards would be covered, Brown, Ndukwe, Alleman at the RG spot or one of your FA’s, Albert at LG, Rookie C, Rookie tackles, buy life insurance on Cassel and see If I can collect.

I think I can live with the fifth round of your draft.

I don’t know man, there’s just so many holes in our roster

by mcclanahanman on Nov 12, 2009 7:52 PM CST reply actions

I think if we see a NT emerge, Dorsey's a keeper.

But yeah, still a ‘tweener with regard to the 3-4. Might be a tough call for Pioli to make. Already aggressive with T-Jax. Wilfork’s a natural pick-up, if things fall right. Seymour would be nice, too, but maybe Pioli’s done chasing former NE players.

Uh. Never mind.

No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.

I agree with drafting Berry

But after that your draft picks seem to fall apart. We are already solid at the CB position and why would we draft two tackles? O’Callaghan seems to be doing pretty well and I think Albert will come around. Our two second rounders should go toward getting a guard and a center.
Albert Waters DP DP O’Callaghan
Would be a pretty decent line.

I'd rather see

O-Line
Black/Richardson
Albert/Ndukwe
DP/Alleman
Brown/Alleman
Fox/O’Cal

D-Line
Suh/Seymour
Wilfork/Ferguson
Jackson/Magee

Trade Dorsey n take a big fast corner in the first or the best safety available if Berry or Mays is around with that pick
Take a WR in the third
C in the fourth
OLB/ILB/TE in the fifth
and have 2 more picks trading away the rights to talk to DJ, and an extra pick in a dorsey trade, and have a late round pick for waters.

Or keep waters and go into the season with Branden albert at LT, with Black backing him up, Waters at LG and a rookie C, Brown/Ndukwe/Alleman at RG, and Fox at RT. Around the trade deadline send waters packing for a 2011 draft pick and go with the afore mentioned O-line.

Really, I'd like to see us build a supremem dynasty offensive line..

the kind Vermeil was a God at creating. The kind that ran that 56-10 score on the Falcons number one run defense. I believe personally that if we just really concentrate on the line first and foremost including a center, the defense is just going to improve as they get used to their roles.

Plus they wouldn’t be so winded if they had more time in between sets to rest. It’s ridiculous this year is what it is. Get the O line first and add a couple veterans to the defense and we should be an instant contender.

I say this because if Haley has one strength it’s his ability to create big play offenses that require the QB to have time to set up the long plays. Right now his whole philosiphy is doomed because we don’t have time for anything. And haley is not now nor has he ever been a dynamo at creating the short quick effective pass plays of Joe Montana’s 49ers and the Broncos of this year.

Plus he doesn’t know how to design a run play to save his ass. He should just admit his weaknesses and hire an assistant and a high calibere OC to help him with those things.

Lastly, I think if we add a couple more veterans to the defense and get a really really great defensive coordinator like they have in Denver then we will be untouchable.

+1...Have to build the line up. I'd love Berry, but if he isn't there then draft OL.

It would not break my heart that if they didn’t get Berry to use round 1 and 2 picks all on OL. They can get a safety in the 3rd or later.

re

People say we should trade Dorsey – are you kidding? Dorsey is a project and he’s still under a top 5 draft contract. All we got for a hall of fame tight end was a 5th round, if we got a 3rd round pick it would be the biggest steal since Enron. Get over it man, their not going to trade Dorsey.
I would offer up plently off reason why i think Dorsey will be a solid player for us, but the fact is the legistics and the money involved in trading Dorsey make it impossible. Period.

by tenacious rdc on Nov 13, 2009 9:57 AM CST reply actions

well... we got a 2nd for TG, not a 5th

But, I agree, trading Dorsey is near impossible, and NOT a good move for KC

by stagdsp on Nov 13, 2009 10:12 AM CST up reply actions

I like Dorsey.

And I think his game will rise and fall with the NT and DB situation. If KC upgrades those slots, Dorsey will not be holding the team back at all.

But he IS a penetrating 4-3 DT who could do some VERY good things for a contender with DT as the missing piece. So if you could get a 1 and a 4 for him, as someone else suggested, it’d be darn tempting. I just don’t see that generous an offer coming.

No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.

I'm in the "keep Dorsey" camp

because I think it would be foolish to get rid of him only to start over at that position with a new draft pick. However, I agree that, essentially, everyone should be for sale for a ridiculous price.

The Plan of all plans

It has to be FA and the Draft, we will need to sign three guys: LT McNeill (SD), WR Steve Breaston (ARI), and LB Kirk Morrison (OAK). We will HAVE to outbid everyone on these guys. Send Dorsey and our worst fifth to the Bucs for their 2nd and 3rd this year. Then we draft:

R1 #4 SS Eric Berry-Tennessee
R2 #35 C Kris O’Dowd-USC
R2 #36 LB Von Miller-Texas A&M
R2 #51 OT Ciron Black-LSU
R3 #67 FS Deunte Williams-N. Carolina
R3 #68 DT Dan Williams-Tennessee
R4 #100 RB Charles Scott-LSU
R5 #132 TE Aaron Hernandez-Florida
R5 #143 KR Brandon Banks-KSU

I like some of his ideas

There are so many things KC could do this year to bring in young talent like they did in 08. I wouldn’t mind a fire sale, if the correct players were brought in and we went 7-9 next year, another good draft and 10-6 in 2011. I’m actually hoping for the #1 this year, or St. Louis gets #1 and we go #2. If both lines are solidified this offseason, 9-7 next year. We have some decent skill players in place, good solid blue collar guys.

Both of our QB’s could be winners, Smith, Charles, Savage, that rookie RB, all have decent talent, nothing to set the world on fire but with a good line, they’d do. Bowe, Wade, Chambers, Long, give our QB time to set his feet and get them the ball, IF he’ll actually throw it, and they could move the chains.

TE definately need an upgrade, both recieving and blocking, Watson, or Crumpler

LB’s Vrabel, Mays, Williams, Hali, Studebaker and the rest of the young guys could get it done if the NT position is solidified.

CB Flowers, Carr, Washington, sure Washington needs more polishing, but with a better pass rush, these guys won’t be picked on so often.

S Brown needs to go, Paige, Flowers, could be servicable, but we need an upgrade here just like TE, but like the Corners a pass rush would go a long way in helping them.

That leaves the lines, C and a RG isn’t going to cover it, Waters isn’t going to be around much longer, that’s 3 holes, O’Cal has been a nice upgrade over McIntosh but isn’t really a dominant tackle. Take Black and Fox like he’s saying up there and a center. Albert could take over for Waters, a rookie C and we more than likely have a serviceable RG on the roster, I’m pulling for Brown.

More holes for the RB’s, LT play would probably take a step back for half a season, but once the line gelled, our QB’s would have more time to throw, giving our wr’s more time to get to where they need to be.

Sign Wilfork and Seymour, Draft Suh and trade Dorsey, Suh could do the same job, and Dorsey could go back to a 4-3 team. Give him a chance to shine, instead of being the guy that allows others to shine. Pick up 2 starters out of it. Win Win

Those 3 guys would instantly upgrade all positions on the defense, the backers would be free to make more plays, pass rush would be coming on a more consistant basis, forcing faster throws. Corners and Safeties wouldn’t have to cover as long.

6 players, 5 new starters, and next year would be a whole new ballgame. We definately need upgrades at more positions, but I have a feeling those 6 guys would go miles farther to make us a better ball club than taking a safety, CB or a WR and getting hammered in the trenches. It’d be more of the same next year with a better class of players.

by mcclanahanman on Nov 13, 2009 11:21 PM CST up reply actions

Wilfork, yes.

But I don’t think Dorsey has as much value in trade as he brings as a player. But if the trade value is there, letting him go to a good 4-3 team with DT needs, and adding Seymour or another, younger 3-4 DE would make sense to me, too. I kinda think bringing in a more dominating true NT would make all the difference in the world, and nobody’d be wanting Dorsey to go anywhere, if NT were fixed and the starting front 3 started pushin’ people around the way we want ’em to.

We may have a Dorsey situation going on with Albert at left tackle, but more likelihood of finding another position for Albert than the one he’s currently in, if it’s thumbs-down @ LT. Dorsey will stay or leave the Chiefs as he prospers or struggles at the RDE spot, period. Edwards is pretty far along in his career for me to believe that he has much more upside at NT than we’ve seen, already. I’ll need to break it down some more, because my mind’s eye is telling me Edwards is consistently tying-up 2 blockers every play, and if his fellow linemen were doing the same, it’d be a free-for-all for our LBs, so maybe Dorsey is a weak link.

I hate questioning myself, but it seems to beat the alternative.

No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.

by hmills110 on Nov 14, 2009 1:53 AM CST up reply actions

And despite the criticism of T-Jax (leavened by "He's a rookie" by most),

it looks to me like there’s sort of an offensive dead zone anywhere near him, and it takes 3 guys to clear out much of anything in his immediate vicinity. Maybe I’m wrong on that, too. But it just seems that he’s the guy on that front line that offenses go out of their way to take out of plays. Jax is one of few teams that showed him little respect and T-Jax racks up a quick 7 tackles, rather than being buried underneath 3 blockers.

No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.

by hmills110 on Nov 14, 2009 1:57 AM CST up reply actions

Your definitly seeing it wrong

Ive seen him single blocked alot and getting owned in the process. I do think he will be good but Dorsey is just more talented period. They are gonna trade Dorse because he has proven he can play RDE. I could see them trading him for a good offer. But they didnt even shop him at the deadline. I just dont see it happening.

OHANA!

by darwithabar on Nov 14, 2009 3:28 AM CST up reply actions

Dorsey keeps developing

Pioli has pretty much stated that he likes Suh, Dorsey still has upside and NFL experience. The better he plays the more he’s worth.

Suh isn’t a nose tackle, and would be wasted there, I could see Seymour being signed and Suh drafted so our line production would still be there while the future develops. Wilfork or Hampton being brought in for 2-3 yrs so we can draft and develop a true nose tackle.

Jackson is pioli’s guy, Suh would be pioli’s guy and Dorsey would be a nice bargaining chip to bring in two more picks, I’m guessing a 2 and a 3. Looking at this draft, Suh, Black and Fox being brought in in the first 2 rounds and 2 young players, a C, NT, CB, S, OLB or WR with the dorsey picks, then we’d have a 3, 4, and 3 5’s to bring in the rest and a young TE.

DJ is a RFA, a second round Tender could be offered and he could be peddled for a draft pick.

If a C and 2 tackles are taken, Albert could be moved to G and Waters dealt for a late round draft pick or held onto until around the trade deadline and while the young lineman developed, Colin Brown at RG, with Richardson, Ndukwe, Alleman, Smith, O’Cal as backups, Our problem wouldn’t be weakness along the line, It’d be which backup(s) to dump. 3 picks on the O-line turn a weakness into a Strength. I imagine B Rich would be an odd man out and Ndukwe and Alleman are both considered guys that can play multiple positions so Smith would be out.

2 FA’s and a draft pick or 2 and the D-line would go to a major Strength.

Round 1 Suh DE
Round 2 Black, Fox, and a NT
Round 3 CB, WR
Round 4 C, DE/OLB – Lets say DJ is dealt for a 4th
Round 5 ILB, S, TE

Watson or Crumpler brought in at TE
Seymour and Wilfork/Hampton at DE and NT
I know there’s supposed to be a few good S in FA bring one in
We have a miami/Atlanta type turn around.
