Kansas City Chiefs vs Oakland Raiders: Re-Matchup

23636832204980-20142934_medium

via www.fox4kc.com

There is nothing like a game against the Raiders.  We get to travel to Oakland and see all the decorations fans.  Both teams are playing just horrible.  I could assemble a 53 man team from AP and we would probably win against these two.  I do believe there is still hope for Kansas City even though it might not be this year.  Oakland needs a lot of changes and are heading in the wrong direction.  The last time we played the Raiders they got the best of us in week 2.  Will it happen again? Maybe.  Here are the matchups...

JaMarcus Russell vs Chiefs Secondary

Sometimes JR can look good and other times he can look like a pee-wee football player.  Sometimes our secondary looks good and sometimes it's like we don't even exist.  It's crazy to think that in week 2 JaMarcus compiled a game winning drive against us.  We give up a lot of passing yards but JR gives up a lot of INT's.

Edge: Tie

Michael Bush vs Chiefs Linebackers

Bush has an impressive 3.7 yards per carry average with only 63 attended.  His longest gain this year has only been 17 yards.  Our linebacker core is aggresive especially with runs up the middle.  If Bush breaks to the outside he might have a good day since our safties can't tackle.  We are 28th at stopping the run this season.  In week two the Raiders got 70 yards rushing and 1 rushing touchdown.

Edge: Raiders

Darrius Heyward-Bey and Louis Murphy vs Brandon Flowers and Brandon Carr

These two wideouts have a total of 21 receptions for 306 yards and 1 touchdown.  They are rookies and it shows.  They are fast enough to break open some big gains if they get a good throw towards them.  Our two cornerbacks are playing pretty solid this year.  In week 2 we only gave up a little over 100 yards in the passing game.

Edge: Chiefs

Raiders Offensive Line vs Chiefs Defensive Line

The Raiders have given up 23 sacks this year.  JR can be hard to get down but it is possible(ask DJ).  Our line has been ok but nothing great this year.  Jackson finally came out of his shell last game so let's hope it continues.

Edge: Tie

Matt Cassel vs Raiders Secondary

The Raiders are surprisingly good at stopping the pass.  They are ranked 13 in doing so.  Last time we met up Cassel had a pretty good game with 241 yards.  We have a new target with Chambers so I believe we have the edge if we get some time to throw the ball.

Edge: Chiefs

Jamaal Charles vs Raiders Linebackers

There has been rumors on Charles not starting this week so we will see.  When Charles has the ball he has proven to be effective.  The Raiders have given up 161 rushing yards per game this year.  In week two we had a good time rushing.  I don't see why we would have trouble this time.

Edge: Chiefs

Dwayne Bowe and Bobby Wade vs Nnamdi Asomugha and Chris Johnson

We had a good time with passing last game against the Raiders.  Now with Chambers, we are sure to have a lot more fun.  The Raiders have tall, physical cornerbacks and Asomugha is one of the best.  If our recievers find holes then we have an edge.  If they are manned up all day then we don't have an edge.  Johnson has 8 passes defended and 2 interceptions this year so far.

Edge: Raiders

Chiefs Offensive Line vs Raiders Defensive Line

Most can say that our O-line has been our weakness this year.  Raiders have a force in seymour even though we kept him quiet in week 2.  I don't see any reason to think our O-line can step up this week.

Edge: Raiders

Tom Cable vs Todd Haley

Both coaches are having some problems and I can see them growing.  I'll give this to Haley just because Al Davis won't let Cable free to make his own decisions.

Edge: Chiefs

Conclusion

We have waited for sweet revenge after the week 2 upset and now is our time to shine.  We need to give Cassel time, don't turn the ball over, and avoid penalties.  If we can do all of those then expect a win in Oakland.

The Faiders have 4 starters returning to play against us.

Gallery (G) – Fibula, Green (T) – Calf, McFadden (RB) – Knee and Schilens (WR) – Foot . Ellis (DE) – Shoulder / Knee. Ellis underwent minor surgery on his shoulder and knee yesterday. He still could play this week if he can return to practice by Friday.

Schilens was one of Russells’ favorite targets earlier in the season but has been out for 8 weeks with a broken foot that seems to have been a nagging injury for him. He said yesterday that he expected to play against the Chiefs but wasn’t quite 100% yet. Schilens isn’t the second coming of Jerry Rice and has some rust after sitting for several weeks. He is an upgrade from the rookie tandem that Cable loves to play even though the rookies aren’t doing very well. Schilens will most likely have only a slight impact in his return.

McFadden averaged only 3.1 yards per carry before he suffered a torn meniscus in his right knee in the fourth game
The Raiders hope McFadden performs better than Justin Fargas and Michael Bush did in his absence. In the first game against us in Week 2 McFadden had 12 carries for 35 yards, averaging 2.8 yards per carry. McFadden also has a bit of a fumble problem as well. Prior to his injury he had 4 fumbles.

Yeah, let's just keep matriculatin' the ball down the field, boys! ...

We are only 28th against the run???

For some reason it seemed like we should be better in that category? I guess our defense still gives up 1 or 2 big ones each week even though I think we are generally pretty tough against the run.

that's it EXACTLY

they are better against the run on 95% of the plays this year

it’s those 5% of plays that turn into 20+ yard runs that kill the Chiefs

* "I doubt anyone will miss Connor Barth except UCrawford"
* the LB corps may become the biggest strength of the Chiefs in 2009
* The OL is NOT as bad as you think it is... give it time, and you'll see improvement this season

That’s what she said

Haley told the offense to run it again. When someone said the defense already knows the play he responded, "So what, make it work."

The only thing

that I disagree with..is that Jamarcus Russel is the WORST starting QB in the league, right now. Jamarcus did compile a game winning drive against us, BUT, he only had 109 yards on 24 attempts. He had a 29.2 completion percentage. No TD’s, but unfortunately, no picks either.

His highest Passer Rating is 85.4, and he only threw for 100 yards in that game. The next highest? 68.2. In that game, he actually threw for 224 yards on 60% completions, but he also threw 2 picks.

On the year, 8 games, 48.4 completion percentage, 1000 yards, 2TD’s, 9 INT’s, and a 48.3 Passer Rating.

Against the Chiefs, Jamarcus had ONE good drive..and it just happened to be the game winning drive. Some people can say “he did it when it counted” so that makes him good..but it really doesnt matter if he has 1 game winning drive when hes as bad as he is. The Chiefs held him to nothing until the final drive. I have NO reason to believe that we wont hold him to nothing again. Hopefully this time, our offense can get some damn points on the board.

I think

the Chiefs Secondary have the advantage over Jamarcus, especially if our Flowers and Carr have the advantage over their receivers. Thats basically what I’m trying to say.

absolutely
